I decided to put a few live albums. Basically Pulse and DSOT are on equal levels for me, but I still would put them before the last couple albums on my list.
i dont know anything about that, but ive got an .mpg of Comfortably Numb done at a concert (best.... solo.... EVER!! sooo much better than on The Wall album... jaw-dropping, i swear)
and the lights on that are amazing as well. lots of smoke, lots of lasers, and there was even a fucking big disco-ball that dropped from the roof, spreading balls of light all over the entire auditorium... and then it opened up and blossomed into this massive shape, dunno what the hell it was, but it was incredible.

all during the solo.

i've also got a friend who went to see Australian Pink Floyd, and apparently the performance they put on, music AND lights, is incredible.

so if you go and see that show, you'll be sure to be in for a good time.

hmm btw, what is this thing, anyway? coz the Floyd's have been broken up for years... so what exactly is this show your talking about?
I'm not really sure what it is...some company that takes Music and makes
a whole show outta it. I heard they did it with Metallica too

I could never rank all my Pink Floyd albums. I love them all, and have so many.

Bazarov 11-29-2005 09:18 PM

I just got Ummagumma today, I don't know, it kind of bored me. I haven't listened to both discs all the way through, I'm going to give them another chance and a full listen. Does anyone else like this album?

I love the live album. The lengthy psychadelic songs they played are really awesome, and the whole thing gives me a feeling of really being there.

As for the studio disc, the songs are alright. Nothing spectacular, but listenable.

It's the intros of the songs which is boring me. Like Careful with that Axe, Eugene. The first 3 minutes I was just waiting for something intresting to happen and then around 4-5 minutes the guitars came in and I thought it sounded awesome.

Several Species of Small Fury Animals Gathered.............. I actually thought this song was pretty good. But I'm not done, there'll probably be a few more that I like.

Spinal Pap 11-29-2005 10:00 PM

I love the first 3 minutes of Careful With That Axe, Eugene, it sounds so eerie.

It builds the song up and makes the climax so much better.

magicbus 11-30-2005 10:55 AM
It builds the song up and makes the climax so much better.
Yea I love the build up, especially when you can hear the bass get louder and louder, and then it breaks into the screams. That part ruuuuuuuuuules.

But yea Butcher, I can understand why you'd find that part boring. To me, it just seems to fit.

Britton 11-30-2005 11:47 AM

Syd was brilliant. It's sad to think about how he ended up. What do you all think they would have done with him?

DeusExMachina 11-30-2005 12:16 PM

I think Ummagumma is great.

It's tough to say where they would've gone with Syd, considering that his solo stuff is quite a bit different from the Pink Floyd stuff. But, I think it would be quite different from where they did go.

Broken Arrow 11-30-2005 01:20 PM

Live Disc in Ummagumma pwnz. The rest is okay/funny.

standard 11-30-2005 02:11 PM

I honestly don't know if Floyd would have been anywhere near what they where WITH Syd. Not to say they wouldn't have been a well known band, but they probally wouldn't have been as influential or NEARLY as popular.

Doctor Night 11-30-2005 03:16 PM

How does Syd compare to Gilmour, guitarwise?

standard 11-30-2005 03:19 PM

As far as I've heard / understand, Gilmour had much more knowledge of music, and was a better guitarist than Syd.

Doctor Night 12-01-2005 01:04 PM

Oh, I heard Barret was better than Gilmour. I wouldn't know myself, I've only listened to post-barret P.F

Standard, you double posted.

guitarded_chuck 12-01-2005 02:09 PM

I think Barrett was a better song writter, but Gilmour is definitley the better guitarist. Barrett was a interesting guitarist, and not bad on acoustic, but Gilmour is, in my opinion, one of the best rock guitarists of all time.

Barret couldn't touch Gilmour on lead.. But he was a good rhythm player.. (From what I've heard)

And yeah, I see that I double posted.. This site is super slow, must have bumped enter or something.
