If you like Rise Against you should like Strike Anywhere. And if you like Suicide Machines you should like Operation Ivy.

Also if you like Suicide Machines, Against All Authority are definitely worth a look. Maybe the Crack Rock Steady bands too?

Nick, if you haven't heard Wayne Hancock yet, get on it. He's amazing traditional honky-tonk/country. I can't think of a single contemporary country artist who comes close to recreating what he recreates.

Also, I saw these two bands tonight:

Fantastic folk and bluegrass. They may not sound it on cd, but they were one of the most raucous things I've ever seen with mine own eyes. 6 strings broke between two guys in a one-hour set, and the banjo player and guitarist both have a stomp device to add percussion. Aaaamazin'.

Real good traditional honky-tonk. Their guitarist, who also played pedal-steel and lap-steel (behind his back, no less) was one of the best guitar players I've ever seen.

Brain Toad 02-11-2006 01:06 AM

The name Wayne Hancock is familler, I'll check him out.

AndreTheHyena 02-11-2006 01:07 AM

Get his album A-Town Blues, you won't regret it.

Brain Toad 02-11-2006 03:41 PM

Wayne Hancock is amazing Andre, thanks for the rec. Can't believe he is a modern singer, sounds straight out of the 50s along with Hank Sr. Hank 3 covers his song Wine Spodieodie as well.

I'll upload New Day Rising (album) to yousendit.com and i'll send you the link. It takes awhile though, so it'll probably be tomorrow before you get it.

On another note, is that Punk Mailing List thing still on the go?

Folsom, this awesome tuff-guy thugcore band from Las Vegas, named their If You're a Viper EP after one of his songs.

Namdrater 02-12-2006 02:16 PM

Ok, I made a topic and it got killed, because of this thread, so I'll just repeat what I wrote (and thanks to everyone who posted recommendations in that other thread I made).
Hey. I just found my love for hard rock type of punk.
I like bands like Propagandhi, Rise Against, Western Addiction, Strung Out and those type of bands, but I'm not sure what type of music that would be defined as, so if anyone has any suggestions of bands that have more or less the same type of sound that those bands have, please tell me! And I dont like bands which scream and I dont know what theyre saying because theyre yelling BLAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!
AndreTheHyena 02-12-2006 02:25 PM

Other people are gonna say A Wilhelm Scream or Strike Anywhere, but because I dislike both of those bands (I just wanted to beat them to the punch), I'm gonna say Good Riddance and Avail.

Did you get it? I sent the album (Husker Du - New Day Rising) last nite.

If anyone else wants it, let me know.

Excursions 02-13-2006 12:57 PM

I recommend The Stick Men to anyone who likes No Wave/Minutemen/Red Hot Chili Peppers stuff. This mainly refers to Dom.

RudeBoyStompin 02-13-2006 07:25 PM

I love the Aggrolites and am looking for more funky, modern skinhead reggae. Anyone help me out?

AndreTheHyena 02-14-2006 12:14 AM

I dunno, but the Aggrolites rule.

Any bands that are that kinda metally, progressive emo like At The Drive In? If anyone says The Mars Volta I will rape them.

Any standout tracks/albums?

AndreTheHyena 02-15-2006 11:37 AM

I'm not the one to ask. Wander over to hardcore, I'm sure there's threads about 'em.

Biscuit_box 02-16-2006 04:03 AM

The Skels.
Very good fold-punk.
Almost as good as Blood Or Whiskey.
Much, much better then Flogging Molly (who tend to get irratating after a while)
And sexier than me.

Led-ZeppelinIV 02-16-2006 11:54 PM

Any good bands that sound like Streetlight Manifesto/BOTAR/C22?

Brain Toad 02-17-2006 12:03 AM

He doesn't sound exactly like them, but for some acoustic ska goodness, check out Chris Murray

Special Brew 02-17-2006 04:49 AM

What are some folk-punk bands like Against Me!? I want bands that are actualy more punkish than folk. Alot of the bands I've seen mentioned are more folkish. I also want the music to have some energy or feeling to it. Quite a few bands I heard seemd kind of bland.

Liebensaft 02-17-2006 10:13 AM

Try O Pioneers!!! (yes, the exclamation points are part of the band's name.)

They're definitely more punkish than folk.

Special Brew 02-18-2006 10:17 AM

O Pioneers!! is alright, but are a bit messy sounding, if you know what I mean.

Any other suggestions?

imnotapunk 02-18-2006 11:04 AM

hey, could you sugest some bands plz. Ive got alot of hardcore and ska but im looking for something different. Im not into bands like dead kennedys
