Here's a better idea. Instead of pretending to know what you're talking about, litsen to whatever you want and stop being an elitist prick.

Jazz is the last refuge of the untalented. Jazz musicians enjoy themselves more than anyone listening to them does.

Interesting since alot of rap has jazz samples like ATCQ etc. I love jazz but each genre takes tallent, rap music is no exeption.

That seems to be a pretty accurate statement. I concur.

realitybreach 06-08-2005 01:58 PM

Here we go. Rap in my opinion isnt very good. Thats my opinion but I wouldnt go as far as saying that the people who rap are untalented or that rap isnt music. Music is noise and you can make noise either with a machine or with your heart. Thats pretty much all I have to say on this subject.

guitarded_chuck 06-08-2005 03:27 PM

Have any of you guys heard of Roots Manuva? Great rap group thats pretty popular in England I think, but still pretty underground here in the West.

ThrashMaster27 06-08-2005 05:25 PM

Group? I was under the impression it was just one guy. I don't know about him being underground as such. Did work with with Chali 2na from Jurassic 5 on Run Come Save Me, so I'd assume he's known pretty well in the west.

Good music though. One of the UK's biggest artists I'd say.

It's just one guy.

And Awfully Deep was my favourite album of 2005 at one point, but it's since been trampled by The Magic Numbers, Common, SOAD, Arcade Fire et al.

Aw, you tried so hard to sound intelligent, too.....

Dr. Octagon's ass references are the greatest moments of rap.

This thread has been both a success and failure. Much kudos to threadstarter.

Jedi Mind Tricks are in first place in my books as far as hip hop goes. "And So It Burns", "The Worst", and "The Rage Of Angels" are my favourite beats.

I can't stand jazz-elitists. "oh look at me, I like jazz, my tastes have far surpassed yours". Guess what? No one cares. I like jazz. Sun Ra and Ornette Coleman are some of my favorite artists. Big deal. Sorry you can't be openminded enough to accept anything you aren't used to.

Can someone upload a few jungle brothers songs for me.

94_Hours 06-11-2005 07:29 PM

Mike Shinoda is a decent rapper, Meastro is also pretty good

-Listy- 06-11-2005 07:42 PM

I need help, 2pacs best albums in your oppinion?

Im a big fan, but ive never got a full album, just alot of songs i have downloaded, but i want to go and get some, thanks.

breakinginflames 06-11-2005 08:03 PM

if rap lyrics have some meaning instead of simply bragging about stuff i would listen to it, i think my all time favorite rap song is by 2 pac - changes, yeah its talking about being from the streets but it has a message behind it, not to mention good singing and rhythm

eminem however much i hate him, presents his songs without mindless rabble, and with a comedic twist as well, his songs are entertaining and have MEANING (or at least the songs ive heard)
not to sound racist but its funny how white rappers whose songs sound like the majority of other african american rappers (mtv crap) seem to fade rather quickly, while someone who stands out with their songs(eminem) stays and does better

mike shinoda and most(excluding j-z)of the people he associates with are good musicians who i would listen to, i for one liked linkin park's reanimation. i might even by his fort minor album, but LP's collabullation w/ jay-z was pathetic i used to love LP but after that i have lost a lot of faith because well j -z is one of the rappers who suck

but you cant argue with the fact that rap is fun to dance to
you cant get all up on a chick with meshuggah blasting (what will you do? headbang her?)

I listen to N.W.A and Public enemy their good, and N.W.A is so good the R.A.T.M has made a cover on Fuck the police.

Has tupac made a cover on the song Changes, I don't really listen to him, but I heard that he made a song like that.

As for another thing, I see Kids who call them selves "Rockers" and start beating on kids that like Rap, but I don't understand is that if you want people who like a different genre of music, why do you beat on them rather share your music with them. I bet some kids of different sides of the fense would like each others music.

This problem seems to have gotten so far out of hand, that its like the "Culture Wars" out there, R.A.T.M is right " THE FRONT LINE IS EVERYWHERE"

I like haveing a wide view on music its good to have knowledge of different music and it promotes healthy lifestyle,

You actually enjoy Sun Ra? I consider myself to be pretty open to music and listen to almost anything but I have trouble deciding whether Sun Ra is extremely advanced songwriting or just crap.

I HATE THESE THREADS! I wish Jon would finish his fucking genre because it's been almost 3 weeks since I told him to post it ASAP

My bad for bringing this back a bit but could it be possible to move this to other music, just an idea.

That ruins the purpose of this thread.

Yes I understand it's for educating the rock users about different genres and whatnot but since it's not a sticky now it's just going to fade away, I thought it could be still put to use.
