Who figures this stuff out anyways?
People with waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands.

Arucard 08-22-2005 01:21 PM

So, who likes Roll The Bones as much as me? I think that album kicks so much butt its unreal, the use of synths and keyboards amazes, and the funny rap at the end of Roll The Bones just tops it all off.

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 01:38 PM

Can't say I have ever heard it :(

dr._feelgood 08-22-2005 01:43 PM

My uncle gave me Roll The Bones when he cleaned out his CD collection a few months ago, but I never took the time to listen to it and sold it at a garage sale and now i'm starting to regret selling it. :upset:

Arucard 08-22-2005 01:53 PM

You slags! Its a great album.

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 02:07 PM

:( I need more rush albums but I have no money at the moment

Anyways, I hear for the offical threads the names can be changed, this thread is official enough. What should it be named if we could?

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-22-2005 03:04 PM

We should call it "The Temples of Syrinx."

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 04:26 PM

The thread of Syrinx? like that?

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-22-2005 04:36 PM
The thread of Syrinx? like that?
thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 05:19 PM

Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 05:44 PM

What? How? They're not even known by the mainstream.

Arucard 08-22-2005 05:50 PM
Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...
You name another drummer who can play as well as him and write lyrics as well as him. You can't? Go home.

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 05:54 PM

Peart's lyrics are so incredible

Maggot Dream 08-22-2005 07:08 PM
Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...
To say Neil Peart is overrated is an exercise in ignorance. Right up there with John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, etc in influence, and is one of the most technically skilled drummers out there. He's one of the few rock drummers who can stand up with the jazz greats.
What? How? They're not even known by the mainstream.
Rush is on classic rock radio a whole lot. Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Limelight, Closer to the Heart, Working Man, and Freewill enjoy lots of radio airplay.
Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...
I don't hear them being praised enough to call them overrated.

And no, Neil is not overrated. Go watch one of his DVDs.

Jude 08-22-2005 07:54 PM
What? How? They're not even known by the mainstream.
Yes they are...but they're definitely not overrated. Neil Peart in particular > nearly any drummer I've ever heard.

Huber 08-22-2005 07:57 PM

He is one of the greatest ever, but not the greatest. He's among Steve Gadd, Thomas Lang and others.

HumanHiFi 08-22-2005 08:14 PM

everything about Rush was fantastic, theres no argument against Neil Pearts abilities and Geddy Lee is known for being one of the best rock bassists as far back as you know.

BludgeonySteve 08-22-2005 08:20 PM

I can't find a single flaw with them exept maybe an average song here and there.

Maggot Dream 08-22-2005 09:06 PM
He is one of the greatest ever, but not the greatest. He's among Steve Gadd, Thomas Lang and others.
Thomas Lang drew much of his playing from Peart's. I personally don't think they're comparable. Gadd, on the other hand, influenced Peart heavily. I would consider Peart a better drummer when you think about all the criteria (skill, influence, orignality, variety, etc.). While Gadd is well known within the drumming community, Peart's style (along with Rush) can be recongized easily by most half-knowledgable listeners.

I wouldn't consider Rush to be very mainstream, if simply because they are very progressive. Their few hits get some radio play, but their better (and less-known) songs are very rare on mainstream radio.

BludgeonySteve 08-22-2005 09:10 PM

They have some songs that are too good not to be on the radio, but they're hardly mainstream. More like semi-mainstream but not really. It's not like they try to be mainstream. People just love their music.

Maggot Dream 08-22-2005 09:12 PM
They have some songs that are too good not to be on the radio, but they're hardl mainstream. More like semi-mainstream.
Agreed. Songs like La Villa Strangiato, By-Tor and the Snow Dog, Cygnus X-I (both parts) aren't exaclty radio-friendly, but they're great nonetheless.

Yeah, all they play here is Tom Sawyer.

BludgeonySteve 08-22-2005 09:20 PM

It's always the same 5 or so songs. They have had such a long and great career that it's kind of sad for the radio the play the same few songs over and over.

dr._feelgood 08-23-2005 07:42 AM

Yeah, it is a shame, especially since tons of other less talented bands get 10x more radioplay. I would imagine that they probably get alot more radioplay in Canada than in the US though.

thunderzstruck 08-23-2005 11:12 AM

I got Roll the Bones (thanks to echoes:)) and the big wheel is an awesome song

thunderzstruck 08-23-2005 11:26 AM
