Trea... any help here, please? |
I got bored of drums & percussion and came here. But I think I ask more questions than I answer anyway
So.. Does anyone have as much trouble counting tied-triplets as what i do..?
Trea... any help here, please?
Do you understand how to count triplets and can you play them already (not tied, just simply as triplets)? If so, all you have to do is count/play the tied triplets as if they were meant to be played seperately - at first that is. Once you've got the particular section you're having trouble with down by playing the triplets as seperated ones, gradually start to play them as tied ones. Remember to take it slowly and only speed it up once you've got the hang of it. If you don't know much about triplets at all, have a look at (in case you haven't seen it already) http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=318711 - the last post on that first page. It's not that indepth but I'm hoping that'll clear some things up. If that doesn't help, let me know :thumb:. |
my overdrive pedal prject is now off to a fairly good start, except that some of the caps i bought were diesgned for PCBs.
i might just et away with it, but they have hella short legs. |
^how hard is it to wire pedals and the such?
i've seen guides and the such on the web and am quite tempted but i'm a little daunted by all the technical diagrams and talk of capacitors and different calculations i'm really quite simple u see |

It's not that indepth but I'm hoping that'll clear some things up. If that doesn't help, let me know :thumb:.
Alright. This is where I am at. Tell me what you think. And correct me if im wrong on any spots. My old guitar teacher used to give me those excersized, where'd you'd just play chromatics over the metronome click. Playing 4 beats of whole notes, then 4 of quarters, 4 of triplets, etc. Just to practise changing in and out of differnt timings with accuracy. I coped with triplets alright, as I would just count them and play them like: Tri - pel - it. Tri - Pel - it. With each metronome click falling on the bolded note. As I knew it, It was like playing three notes in one metronome click. Now, tied triplets mean playing three notes in two metronome clicks (right?). And I just had troubles trying to time it correctly. So this is how I'm thinking they should be counted, now after reading your explaination: Tri - pel - it - Tri - pel - it As the metronome click falls on the bolded word. And as i play a note on the underlined word. Does that sound right? Or have I just confused myself even more? |
As I knew it, It was like playing three notes in one metronome click.
Provided that you are playing quaver triplets, yep.
Now, tied triplets mean playing three notes in two metronome clicks (right?)... So instead of taking the approach of thinking of two sets of tied quaver triplets as, well, just that, you could think of them as one set of crotchet triplets (three notes played in the space of a minim). i.e. you'd just have to say "Tri - pel - it" across two clicks, instead of "Tri - pel - it - Tri - pel - it" in the same amount of time. I thought I may as well have pointed that out in case it helps :). |

But i just have real troubles timing it right. Hearing the click of the metronome would put me right off my counting. That was the original problems I was having. As I would always fall back into playing them as half-notes. If I think of it as the latter example, I can keep counting it as two lots of individual triplets, but I only play the note at the correct time. I gave it a bit of a practise last night. And at least I'm a little bit closer to getting it than i was the day before. But I'm still having troubles. I've been practising trying to clap it out. And I'll definately keep at it. Thanks for your help. |
I learnt to count 1-trip-let 2-trip-let etc...it keeps the numbers in there.
I never got the knack of counting semiquaver triplets, though. |

no, thats because you'll end up soldering them to your face. this is hwy i should tie my hair back. I've resigned myself to the fact i'll have to use some single core wire :upset: i hate it because i always break it. |
Chris: Sorry about that not being a good explaination. It was just me saying why you can count the tied triplets as "Tri - pel - it" across two clicks instead of "Tri - pel - it - Tri - pel - it". But I can tell from what you said in your last post that you already know what I was trying to explain (regardless of whether or not you actually understood what I was saying), so I won't go into it.
The clapping is a good way to do it, but I think I've got something better. This is probably one of the best things I can think of to help you get these down: If you have the program Powertab (http://www.power-tab.net - or something similar to it), tab out a long set of tied triplets and play them along with the program. Have the bpm set to a slow tempo at first. Gradually start adding some half-notes (minims), quarter-notes (crotchets), etc. in. Something like minim, tied triplets, crotchet, tied triplets, quaver, semiquaver, semiquaver, tied triplets... *shrug* whatever suits. When you are a bit more confident with playing them in those two ways, start to vary the pitch of the notes. Give it a go if that sounds good to you and let me know how it goes :). Uber Penguin: If you want, you could try counting semiquaver triplets as something along the lines of 1-trip-let and-trip-let, 2-trip-let and-trip-let. That's a bit of a crazy pattern to try and say while you're going fast... but hey, it may help. |
what wire should you use for a new pickup? i'm going to install an EMG 60 in the neck (obviously) and I wanted to do it myself. is there anything specific i need? i've got a soldering iron, some conducting solder and wanted to know if theres anything i need to know before i start and possibly ruin a £90 p/u?
