I had to post this. A lot of my old fav bands have sold out and most of the crap I listened to 5-10 years ago just flat out suck now. I bought a CD last year entitled Orchid by Opeth. Lemme tell you...It opened my mind to Music. I listened to Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera etc when I was younger, I am talking the early 90's. There are a select few good bands that have been out there forever and havn't sold out. Slayer, Iron Maiden etc. But Opeth...I don't think It's possible. if you havn't heard of them or heard them I suggest Buying ALL of their CD's. The most Intricate band In my opinion. Songs average around 13 minutes...And you just want MORE!!! The first song I heard by Opeth was In Mist She Was Standing. I had goosebumps....Just when I thought There were no good bands out there Opeth rescued me.
Opeth has no Genre. They are Opeth :thumb: "Through the eternal flame I travel...As the rain keeps falling" - Mikael Akerfeldt.
**** yeah i love them so much. |
I agree...the Latin Drums just make it awesome. I kinda like the end part of To Rid the Disease...the piano is haunting and I like the way the bass comes in
Yeah, that's an incredible part as well...it springs to mind some vivid imagery for me...I'm picturing a light snowfall, late on a cold winter night, staring straight up at the sky as the snow falls around me... Sorry, I get very specific images sometimes with certain types of music... |

 Sorry, I get very specific images sometimes with certain types of music...
Yeah I know what you mean. Opeth really do that to you, most oftenly you'll get a forest scene image in your mind when you listen to them. I love how they do that so easy. Still Day Beneath the Sun gives my mind an image of being in the middle of vast wooded area, and the sun is slowly fading away, and you can just see the rays of the sun shine through the branches and leaves. Opeth are awesome. :thumb: |
I have currently heard 2 songs by Opeth (thanks to Kaden). They have a good, yet unique sound that I really like. Opeth > others
|
what two songs have you heard?
|
what two songs have you heard?
I sent him Harvest and The Drapery Falls. |
Hey guys, the other day I ordered "Still Life", then today they tell me that it's out of print. Is this true?
If so, I cry. |
Weakness is a great song, but the song I have never gotten into is A Fair Judgement.
This could just be me, but i love A Fair judgement, i think it's one of their more progressive songs even though it isn't the longest But i have to say, my favourite opeth tracks would be April Ethereal The moor Serenity painted death Leper affinity In mist she was standing Black rose immortal Deliverence Windowpane |

If so, I cry.
It shouldn't be...I think they are remastering it soon, that's probably why. You might have to get it off of ebay or something, though. Have you tried TheEndRecords? I bought Morningrise and Still Life off of there for like 16 bucks total |

I still think When is the best track off of MAYH. I don't know why I haven't gotten into A Fair Judgement, I just don't like it as much. I love the acoustic part right before I believe the 2nd verse |
Favourite songs? Hmmmm:
Harvest The Leper Affinity Face of Melinda Deliverance The Funeral Portrait Wreath Benighted I don't have much of their older stuff (I know, it's terrible), that'll change once I get paid, so that's why they're all of Still Life, Blackwater Park & Deliverance. ****ation was a good album, but they really should have done it as a 2CD album. |
^^ Agreed...2 albums worth of ****ation material. :)
[/purposefully misinterpretting statements in favor of own opinion] |
The Funeral Portrait
Drapery Falls Leper Affinity Harvest Black Rose Immortal Hope Leaves Those are all my favorites that I can think of at the moment |
A Fair Judgement is definetly one of my favorite songs. The second solo is :D
I haven't been able to get into any of MAYH except Epilogue (got the powertab for it anyone?) and Remember Tomorrow. |
my favorite song is Blackwater Park
|

[/purposefully misinterpretting statements in favor of own opinion]
Nicely done! :) how does everyone think the band is going to be like without Lopez? You think Mendez's playing will be enhanced or will it falter (due to the fact that he's had Lopez a drummer for a long time now)? Do you think the band will be hurt without Lopez' awesome drumming (his latin percussion on the end of Closure, to me, made the song)? ANSWER ME **** IT! :) |
Why does everyone think Lopez is out of the band? It hasn't been confirmed anywhere, nor even mentioned on the official site.
|
Cardboard is right, its not offical yet, just a rumor.
|
hmmm...good point
|
BTW, whose that in your avatar Cardboard
|
i've been an opeth fan for awhile now. but i thought Dam-nation really sucked. it just wasn't Opeth. like it woulda been a good record for another band, but the beauty of opeth is the juxtaposition of dark macabre moments and lighter moments.Dam-nation was just all lighter moments. it was only half the equation.
|

It's Chuck Schuldiner from Death(RIP). |
Nicely done! :)

ANSWER ME **** IT! :)
Whoa, whoa...don't scare me like that. I thought Lopez was only out because of injuries, not PERMANENTLY! He's still on the band's bio page, etc....you'd think that they would update that if he was actually gone. |
I dunno, ive heard a few Opeth songs, and although they had a style all their own, i feel they are far overrated. Their songs to me seem bland. I have a feeling ill be on fire very soon.
|
Well, it's hard to say if a band is overrated since it all comes down to opinion. It is however possible to say if a band is over-hyped, and in the metal community Opeth are just that. However, I believe they deserve it.
|
hmm, there style may sound bland at first, to me it did, first time i listened to still life, i can't believe it, but i actually didn't like them, but i gave them another try, and it sunk in, and ever since, i have been a fully devoted opeth fan. On another note, for anyone who didn't know, akerfeldt said that opeth's next cd will have a more black metal feel, which would be interesting.
|
whats is some of their softer stuff?i just heard hope leaves and loved it
|
I like the Leper Affinity.

I burned the Deliverance cd from a friend and I really want Orchid. I kinda prefer their older stuff. But yeah, brilliant writing, they have the creepiest riffs. |
what's funny is that Mike hates listening to parts of Morningrise, I think they have just progressed so much, why would you want ANOTHER Morningrise? Don't repeat something, progress...
Maybe that's why they are prog metal? |
