Yeah, it's even better than I remember it being.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

I've almost given up on alternative rock...until I heard this very interesting track called "Another Morning Stoner". Which of their albums should I buy? I'm leaning towards Source Tags & Codes...I'm downloading heaps of material. I need advice from you vet AYWKUBTTOD-junkies.

Tapeworm 07-07-2004 08:13 AM

Get Source Tags and Codes. It is absolutely brilliant.

I've fallen in love with this band. Personally, I think they are the best alternative rock band (excluding QOTSA) around at the moment. Like Sonic Youth, they can make their instruements work for them and do what they want. They aren't super virtuoso's( they could be?) but they still manage to craft epic, spacey, hard rocking songs.

Truely awesome band.

Couldn't agree more. Go and get Source Tags and Codes right now, it is completely awesome. Actually, I haven't listened to that for a while. I shall have to listen to it soon.

moderaterock222 07-07-2004 06:31 PM

Source tags and codes is a really underrated album, it has a lot of energy...i have an urge to listen to it right now

YDload 07-07-2004 08:25 PM

Coheed and Cambria. The whole "Silent Earth" album is awesome, and my favorite song is probably "The Crowing." Check it out, if you haven't been bugged to listen to it already!

AK47 07-07-2004 09:53 PM

I finally found some Cows songs and by golly they ROCK.

br3ad_man 07-08-2004 12:30 AM

The Cows are so good. It takes so long to find their songs though.

Something about CocoRosie...

Tilly and the Wall: Saddle Creek (Well, actually "Team Love", but meh) band, really interesting hippy pop. This band even has a tap-dancer. It grows on you.

Mirah: Just a really amazing group all around, the vocals are extremely good and the music keeps you hooked, unlike some of the bland stuff we have to deal with these days.

Shannon Wright: Her music is kind of dark. You might like it, you might not. I can't ever predict the response I'm going to get when I let my friends in on this artist.

As you can probably tell, I've sort of had a craving for female vocals lately. About time... besides Azure Ray, Metric, and maybe a couple other exceptions, the last band I was listening to with a female singing was No Doubt, and that was back when they were still putting out decent music. :)

Luxor 07-08-2004 11:06 AM

Book Of Flags
No Kill No Beep Beep
A Line In The Sand
Fever Sleeves
Sleeping The Fever Code

I've actually never heard a Q And Not U song that I ddin't love.

hafez 07-10-2004 01:09 AM

i'm going back to Pearl Jam's "ten" album. other than that, i've been listening to the "mansbestfriend" album by sole

Master Arkam Kannon 07-10-2004 07:19 AM

ive been checking out Rush lately...

OrbDragon 07-10-2004 06:20 PM

I don't understand the fuss about Coheed...I don't find them all that impressive. Maybe I'm missing the point.

Nevertheless, I've been digging alot of Faith No More, Melvins, Trail Of Dead, At The Drive-In, Pixies and Mondo Generator lately...I'm into rocking hard these days instead of the artsy experimental stuff that usually dominates my eardrums.

I haven't been so much into rock music since my mid teens when I still listened to alot of Jane's Addiction, Tool, Death Cab For Cutie and Smashing Pumpkins records (although I've pretty much outgrown these bands since I became 18 or so).

br3ad_man 07-10-2004 06:23 PM

^^^
I never knew you were a Melvins fan! Good work!

With the Coheed thing, they seem like the Pixies...a great band, but terribly overrated
I don't understand the fuss about Coheed...I don't find them all that impressive. Maybe I'm missing the point.
Maybe you're listening to even better music, and there's just no room for them to shine in your playlist. If you paid attention to modern music trends on the radio and MTV, you'd see that Co&Ca have taken the poppy hooks of pop-punk and the whiny vocals and added amazing guitar mini-solos and drum fills. Imagine if you saw New Found Glory playing and all of a sudden their guitarist (one of them, anyway) started playing an amazing lead underneath the second chorus. That's about what it is, and also the voice. "A Favor House Atlantic" is the single that's on MTV, and that's all the higher Claudio's voice gets. Most of the time it's a bit more subdued, if you don't like that.

So, that's the point. "The fuss" is that I started getting into them and bumped all their threads in Alt/Indie, CD Reviews, and Pop-Punk forums. Also, their lyrics are very weird, but they have a point that will come out as soon as a comic book based on the story is printed. The chance to know for sure what a progressive band's lyrics mean is the cause of much fuss, let me tell you.

br3ad_man 07-11-2004 05:35 PM

I'm getting into Massive Attack. I've only heard one song, but I'm getting an album soon.

Tangy zizzle 07-11-2004 06:16 PM

Last couple of days it's been

The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Pilot To Gunner
Brainiac
Enon

They are all really good. Brainiac's probably my favourite out of that bunch, they are a very very good band.

Tangy zizzle 07-11-2004 06:22 PM

Calexico - Feast Of Wire has been declared Tangy Zizzle's Official Album of The Week

el doctor 07-11-2004 09:47 PM

I bought "El Cielo" from Dredg this week and I'm trying to get into it. Parts of it I find interesting, but for the most part it's rather mediocre and boring to me. :o

pendrightehpedo 07-12-2004 11:25 AM

I saw The Stands at Move 2004 when i went to see the Pixies and they were awesome. They sounded like a more indie version of Mars Volta, especially when they just jammed for about 15 minutes

Tapeworm 07-12-2004 11:33 AM

I just got:

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Lambchop - AWCMON/NOUCMON
Joey Cape/Tony Sly - Acoustic
Lost in Translation soundtrack

They are all outstanding albums. I have never heard anyone ANYWHERE talk about Lambchop, and they are an amazing amazing band. So good.

songs one must get...

i am a cracked machine
kiss me you jacked up jerk
Meathook Manicure
