Charlie Watts had problems??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOZ!!!!!!!!!!

/is ignorant, apparently

I have no problem with metal, personally. I don't see the point of making a whole new forum just to seperate rock and metal.

Oh noes, you must be informed.

Back in the mid 80's when the Stones were... er... sucking pretty bad, he started to get a Herion and Alcohol addiction, which was caused in part because he was getting a divorce from his only wife.
Or something along those lines. :)
I know that PAul played Drums on "Back in the USSR" but I don't know about the early drumming.
Yeah, when some tabloid reporter asked him if he thought that Ringo was the best drummer in the world, he jokenling replied: "Ringo's not even the best drummer in the Beatles."

I'm 99% sure that John said that.

I think all the Rolling Stones had some drugs problems. No one was like Richards though. A while ago someone here told me that Mick Taylor left the Stones because Jagger and Richards did too many drugs and it was affecting their performance.

I don't have anything against metal music, but I do think that it makes rock get way under-represented. The alt and indie thread is pretty good for current rock though.

Exactly, Keith took it to the degree where he's quite lucky to be alive.

Oh, looks like John had a knack for saying potentially upsetting things to reporters...

Thats pretty much my amount of metal tolourance. Actually, I love Maiden and Sabbath, and you could call Dream Theater metal...

Broken Arrow 09-21-2005 06:10 PM

I dont love Maiden but I love Sabbath.

Glitterati 09-21-2005 06:19 PM

/occasionally listens to Maiden, Motorhead, Metallica, and Slayer

No black/death metal, though. Can't stand that stuff.

jpj 09-21-2005 06:19 PM

There is no reason whatsoever for a seperate forum, end of story. You don't think there are enough rock threads? Make some. Gonna bitch because no one replies? Deal with it, it's the internet.

NP: Arcturus-White Noise Monster

I think some of you prog fans may actually like these guys, at least their newest album which is pretty much all clean vocals.

I listen to Maiden and Pantera

:o

Metal's something I just don't like. From what metal I've heard, I don't really like any of it. I haven't heard that much though, and I don't think it's possible to dislike an entire genre, so I'm still waiting to discover some metal band that I like.

What have you heard?

The first metal I liked was power metal, mainly because of the clean vocals.

The vocals I've heard are the main reasons I haven't liked metal. What are some bands with clean vocals? I may like that.

Iron Maiden. Bruce Dickinson has some great clean vocals in my opinion, better than most other metal singers.

Rhapsody
Blind Guardian
Dream Evil
Dragonforce
Sonata Arctica
Edguy
Angra
Dream Theater
Iron Maiden
Nightwish
Iced Earth

Pretty much all power metal minus bands like CoB and Kalmah. Also progressive metal mixes harsh and clean a lot.

robo2448 09-21-2005 06:28 PM

I'm listening to Iron Maiden on xsao right now.

tapdog05 09-21-2005 06:31 PM

can anyone actually play thunderstruck?? on guitar??

PinkFreud 09-21-2005 06:38 PM

queensryche had good clean vocals too.

i listen to some old metal and a fair amount of more recent bands. tomahawk, dillinger escape plan, pantera, megadeth, and others. i have eclectic music tastes.

i know paul played drums on some tracks off of the white album because ringo had briefly quit/gone on vacation.

Ah, DEP is one band I just don't get. I can't stand the singer and the guitar parts are just too...frantic.

The Timekeeper 09-21-2005 06:41 PM

Bruce Dickinson did some live stuff on bbc radio 1 a few night's ago, he was straining so bad..... still great though!

Have any of you guys come across Rich Dickinson? he is the guy in the UK who has Hendrix's 1st Marshall. he is awesome on the Guitar! i read about it all a while ago but looked them up and downloaded the album from the dreaded itunes. i was very surprised at how good he was, i wonder if he is related???? there is more info on www.dfuk.org.uk

JonG 09-21-2005 06:41 PM

I used to listen to Metallica, but then got bored of them. Now I listen to Pantera. Dime has good tone for a SS.

Also Thunderstruck isn't that hard to play on guitar.

Walrus Gumboot 09-21-2005 06:44 PM

I'm listening to the Let It Be Sessions version of Across The Universe, it's rough but there are some really sweet harmonies on the verses
It's in my collection of:
Past Masters Vol. II
Let It Be
Let It Be...Naked
Let It Be Sessions
versions

The franticness is one of the reasons I like them.
can anyone actually play thunderstruck?? on guitar??
No, and I've been trying for years! I guess Angus Young is just too good for me :upset: probably the greatest guitarist ever.

Meh, maybe I could give them a few more listens.

I just watched a video of the British Cream Reunion when they played Crossroads. It further proves the point that Eric Clapton can still wail.

rockinbass17 09-21-2005 07:05 PM

Haha, look at all the old people dancing!

Awsome video, man. Good quality.

Lunch 09-21-2005 07:10 PM

I don't think Ringo was a serious alcoholic, but he was good friends with Keith Moon. They show him drunk a few times on TKAA, and I also remember reading something about how he was drunk when Harrison and Clapton were writing Badge.

/late

Edit: I hate Cream
