It's an integral part of Windows. The odds are, you will not be able to, as Windows will not function properly without it. The thing you browse your own files with is part of IE, and MSN depends on it to work.
|
Why is that?
joe
Windows does not like you uninstalling its IE products, and will throw hissy fits. EDIT: Of course Winter gets the more technical description  :thumb: |
I unstalled it and I can still browse my files and view them as a web page. It works fine for me.

I can't say how to get Firefox to be default, it'll be somewhere in its Options or Preferences - I've not really used it that much. But you will have to do it in Firefox's configuration, not IE's config.

Aha... gotcha. I can get rid of the shortcut on my desctop though, right?
I unstalled it and I can still browse my files and view them as a web page. It works fine for me.
:thumb: -Gav
Well it shouldn't. Are you sure you actually uninstalled it? Open up your My Documents folder, and type www.realppl.co.uk in the address bar. What happens? |
practically everything internet based on windows in some way runs through IE... its how any programs such as msn connect to the internet, and part of it is linked to the internet controls and settings for your computer.
If you don't want popups-- i suggest an ad blocker, there a free ones, but Norton Internet Security is about £20, also comes with really good anti virus software and i haven't seen this mx duck popup yet- i dont get any except the ones i click on and also i don't think its actually possible to completely remove it for that reason ahh if im wrong though i apologise - thats just what iv been told |
Aha... gotcha. I can get rid of the shortcut on my desctop though, right?
jow
Yeah, you can do what you like with the shortcuts. |
Well it shouldn't. Are you sure you actually uninstalled it?

Maybe it isn't uninstalled? I definitely uninstalled it, though. Oh well... I'm off to do calc homework. Wo0t. Later MX. Always a pleasure. I'll be back soon enough. :thumb: -Gav |
I've got McAfee, and that works really well. It's got a firewall and a virus dealey that also catches spy ware.

If it took you to the website, it's alive and well.
Enjoy your homework! |

Normally I use GAIM - it's sort of like Trillian, it logs me into AIM, YIM and MSN all through the same program, but there are one or two aspects of functionality lost, like audio conversations. |

You should be able to uninstall IE without problems. Microsoft was forced to allow users to remove IE from their machines due to the anti-trust suit.
If you want to remove it go to Add/Remove programs and it'll be listed under Windows Components. It shouldn't hurt your OS since Internet Explorer uses Windows as its platform. Not the other way around. Don't mean to bring that up form the last page, but I figured I could clarify if anyone was still wondering. |
Where and how are you playing?! I only have MSN but would love to talk to other bassists! :)

And if you just want to make Firefox your default browser all you have to do is go to the top and click on Tools--> Options, on the left click 'General,' and then click the check box under 'Default Browser.'
