How does one identify a power metal guy? I see kids in DragonForce and Iced Earth shirts alot but I think they're posers and traditional/thrash metallers, respectively.

Hmmm, this subject intrigues me.
kids in DragonForce and Iced Earth shirts

traditional/thrash metallers
what

masscows 01-02-2008 08:40 PM

Note the respectively

And because most of the time when I see dudes in Iced Earth shirts they're with dudes in Judas Priest/Iron Maiden/Metallica/Megadeth shirts.

Angmar 01-02-2008 08:45 PM

Maybe they like those bands as well?!?!?

masscows 01-02-2008 08:47 PM

Well, Iced Earth is popular in the US so someone who listens to them might not even listen to other power metal since they're just as much thrash as they are power metal.

Anyway, this discussion is dumb I've just realized. I'll be on the lookout for power metallers wherever I go o_O

Deathcrush 01-02-2008 08:58 PM

Negged.

Angmar 01-02-2008 09:07 PM

Aww come on was that necessary? :'(

Daven 01-02-2008 09:10 PM

Most people who listen metal where I live are power metal-heads. :S

Invicta_Veritas 01-02-2008 09:12 PM

People here are pretty diverse, so I don't mind.

AA-12 01-03-2008 10:07 AM

Most here like grind/hardcore kids so it's pretty cool.

beans 01-03-2008 11:44 AM

ok so i love black metal but i cant seem to find bands that are good in the genre, can anyone give me some sick bands to look up?

Daven 01-03-2008 11:45 AM

You love black metal but you cant find any good bands.
Most people who listen metal where I live are power metal-heads. :S
Here it's mostly nu-metal goths.
Ugh.

Its hard to come across a fellow metalhead that listens decent metal.
Let alone someone that is into doom/drone/funeral doom.

Apocalypticon 01-03-2008 12:14 PM

yeah I agree with Josh. check out all the basic main bands. they aren't hard to find. once you've listened to some of that stuff come back. tell us what you liked and what you didn't like and then maybe someone will recommend you more good bm. until you've got the basics covered there is no point in anyone recommendind anything.

Silenius 01-03-2008 02:20 PM

No one can tell you what you will like that's impossible.

beans 01-03-2008 02:22 PM

Sorry, I didn't mean to make you do your own work.

Mattijuana 01-03-2008 02:24 PM

bunit: Darkthrone, Burzum, Beherit, Angmar (you'll like them if you like WITTR), and Bathory and Celtic Frost are always classic.

That should get you started...

ATM 01-03-2008 02:24 PM

Look at bands on Metal Archives.

lol no, i havnt really delved really deep into the genre
but i plan on it

negrodamus 01-03-2008 02:28 PM

Burzum is meh.

Mattijuana 01-03-2008 02:29 PM

No... YOU!

Silenius 01-03-2008 02:30 PM

Emperor, Ulver, Burzum, Immortal, MArduk, Dissection are all bands most people listen to when getting into the genre...

Mattijuana 01-03-2008 02:30 PM

Ugh Dissection
Ugh Marduk

The rest of those are good

masscows 01-03-2008 02:31 PM

Ugh Marduk barely even counts as music let alone black metal.

negrodamus 01-03-2008 02:31 PM
No... YOU!
idk I've listened to 3 Burzum albums, and they all had some cool parts, but none of them were mind blowing.

Silenius 01-03-2008 02:32 PM

Obviously most people's tastes also change after listening to the genre for a while. :p
Obviously most people's tastes also change after listening to the genre for a while. :p
Heh, let's hope so. Maybe this guy can become a regular contributor to our R&M family.
idk I've listened to 3 Burzum albums, and they all had some cool parts, but none of them were mind blowing.
Which ones/How many times did you listen to them?

EDIT: sup 300

masscows 01-03-2008 02:34 PM

I still like Dissection, but they aren't really black metal anyway.

negrodamus 01-03-2008 02:37 PM

Hvis lyset tar oss, Det som engang var, and Burzum in that order. I liked DSEV the most. I've listened to Burzum once, and the other two twice.

Mattijuana 01-03-2008 02:39 PM

That's not enough. The first time I listened to Burzum, I absolutely hated it. I listened to it and thought: 'Wow do people actually like this garbage' then, about 3 months later I decided to test Burzum once again and listened to DSEV. It absolutely blew me away and I've been a fan ever since.

I plan on listening to them a few more times. I don't think Burzum is bad, just a little overrated.
