Slayer was just the first extreme-ish metal band to have an mtv hit. I don't think they really did as much as you seem to think. However, that's a completely irrelevent point.
Slayer sucks. Their old stuff is boring, their new stuff is boring. It's all balls, perhaps even balls and a half. I don't really give a **** what they pioneered, they're still annoying. Thanks for wasting an hour writing that essay though. |
venom was the first one to bring satanism into metal on a large scale.
And death metal does have its share of satanism, too... |
It's usually bad death metal that goes on about Satanism though.
Unless it's Immolation or Nunslaughter (I know there are others, but those two are elite as FUCK) |
how is immolation satanist
"No Jesus, No Beast" pretty atheistic stuff. |
Satanism has nothing to do with devil worship...
|
I've had this discussion too many times with too many dumb people. I severely doubt the dudes in Immolation are LaVeyan satanists, much less orthodox devil worshipers.
and Deicide is very, very theistic in their satanism. |
"Also I don't know what kind of response you expected because you basically talked down to death metal in general in an earlier post."
Didn't talk down death metal, I like death metal. I talk down to stupid, ignorant fans. "misconception: death metal isn't about satanism refer to: black metal but I agree on Slayer being good musics, the first albums weren't that awesome, but still..." and Hardly. Digital music actually tends to focus too much in "making things harder" by just digitally amplify the input signals (vox, bass, guitar, etc), but those who actually know about making a good mix tend to pay attention to the natural accentuation of sounds (mostly seen on drums, say drum bass being lower but still listenable, snare being higher on the mix to accentuate it, etc.) rather than make it sound "aggresive". You actually have a brain and know what you're talking about, we just don't see eye to eye. "Slayer was just the first extreme-ish metal band to have an mtv hit. Ask just about any musician metalhead over 30 who really got them into playing, 9/10 will have Slayer somewhere in their answer... thats a pretty good impact, I'd say. The other part was just your opinion, nothing really based in any sort of fact... "venom was the first one to bring satanism into metal on a large scale. And death metal does have its share of satanism, too..." Only reason Venom has any recognition is because of the success of other bands they influenced who cited them as influencers ie; Metallica, Slayer, Pantera (Phillip, more specifically), Emperor, and Mayhem . Without those bands citing them, Venom most likely would've been forgotten though I do admit, most death metal in it's original and classic form had nothing to do with religion, but focused more on gore and violence, save a few bands, like Death. Grindcore had much more about politics and the destructive, oppressive effects of organized religion.... eventually though, the defining lines were blurred and both styles shared topics. |

I'm talking themes fool, themes. I'm not saying they're all out Satanic, I'm just saying: Failures For Gods, Close To A World Below, etc. not quite "HEIL SATAN GRRR 14 YEARS OLDS STUMBLED UPON THE BLACK CIRCLE ON SLSK!" but sort of "underworld" oriented and sort of "evil-esque." |
But just because it's about the darker side of religion doesn't mean its satanic.
You will all be fooled

It's definitely infrequent.

How could you disagree with Tojes, he's so adorable.

I need bands that sound like Nile.
|
There are better bands than Nile tbqfh.
|
Slayer's old stuff... boring?
 |
ok, luc214, you're 16, right? and rattlehead, you're 17? which means you guys have been listenin' to metal for what, like, 20 minutes now? I'm sure you're going to tell me about how "you've been listening to metal since you were like 5 pears old" or whetever, but that don't even matter, 'cuz it's B.S.
I've been listening to metal ever since I was 5 years old. Seriously though, I've been listening to metal for close to 2 years now, and I would respond to other points if you had had better punctuation and grammatical sentence structure. |
There are better bands than Nile tbqfh.
Maybe, but I like Nile. There's always going to be a better band. |
Behemoth also has a middle eastern type of influence, you might like them.
|
Behemoth-Demigod, Zos Kia Cultus, The Apostasy, Thelema.6
Cryptopsy-None So Vile, Blasphemy Made Flesh Decapitated-Winds of Creation Suffocation-Effigy of the Forgotten, Pierced from Within Get these albums if you like Nile, you'll be hard-pressed to find disappointment. |
Ugh I find Nergal's vocals so grating...
Ugh I find Nergal's vocals so grating...
Pre-Demigod Behemoth = good vocals. |
I need bands that sound like Nile.
lykathea aflame |
Pre-Demigod Behemoth = good vocals.
I disagree. And Lykathea Aflame are SWEET! |
Pre-Demigod Behemoth = good vocals.
I dunno the vocals on Zos Kia Cultus sound pretty similar to me. Don't get me wrong i think Behemoth is badass but sometimes Nergal gets on my nerves. |
Well, they're not annoyingly overproduced.
|
I guess so, sometimes the layering gets on my nerves too...
|
I don't like Behemoth anymore because of the layering.
I mean, it can be done right, example: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/7/9/1252962/abyssal_creation_sample.mp3 But Nergal over dose it. |
Meh the only good thing TTEODD has released is Bloodlust.
|
WOW, no.
Scars Of Ages and Annihilation Of Expectation, Bloodlust is weak as hell, three good original songs = fail. |
I'm actually curious enough to check their first 2 releases out. Bloodlust sucks hard.
And I think the vocals on Demigod are fitting, although I'm glad Nergal didn't do it on The Apostasy. They're cool for one record, just for a change of "pace", I guess. |

Plus, I find it EXTREMELY hilarious that you act like a know-it-all about metal music when you've been listening to metal for "close to two years." I've been listening to hard rock music for about 15 years now, and I've been CONSUMED by metal for nine. Woo hoo let's see who has the bigger e-peen.

I never read posts that long.
If you can't get the point across in a few sentences then what's the point? NP: Entombed - Left Hand Path |
I got Entombed's Left hand path earlier today. Cool.
|
It's a good album. It's the only one I listen to really.
|
The Nihilist demos rule too.

I would respond except for the simple fact that I cannot decipher points to respond to out of that incoherent mess. I will be graduated by the end of this year, and next fall will be enrolling in culinary school. Why do you think you're such hot shit?
