I don't like playing solos exactly the way they are recorded. It's not the same amount of feeling in it then... It's much funnier to play your own way.
Yeah I do that a lot too. In fact I only know a couple key licks from the second solo in Comfertably Numb and Money, the rest is all improv.

Riva 08-02-2005 08:25 PM

A lot of people love covers which are tone and note perfect copies of the original. To me, if the artist doesn't add something special, it isn't worth recording.

That being said, the Scissor Sisters can go to hell.

Marzcho 08-02-2005 08:26 PM
I was improve a little bit on Time. Most people really dig it, but my old rhythem guitarist constantly whines about it. *sighs* he can't even begin to play that solo either.

I agree that in the first comfortably numb solo there isn't much need to improve. Like clown said, It's such a short, reconizable solo. Why change a good thing?
Well. I think that whatever you decide to do will be good.

So is a new Pink Floyd DVD coming out?

I heard something like that on the radio.

They're probably talking about "Pulse", it's been out on VHS for a while.
They're probably talking about "Pulse", it's been out on VHS for a while.
Yeah, we're waiting for it to be released on DVD, but Dave keeps delaying it for various reasons. :(

Well the DVD they were probally talking about was Pulse, but Pink Floyd's Live 8 preformance will be put on a complitation dvd (speacial features include on commercials cutting the solo in Comfertably Numb). I can't wait for that one.

Hells Bells 08-02-2005 09:18 PM

The cover DT did of Hey You isn't bad at all either. I've heard other covers of that song, and it seemed as if those times the bands only goal was to reproduce it using their own style, and they turned out dry and bland. DT's still manages to hold on to some of the emotion the original had, compared to those other ones anyway. Still doesn't even come close to the original.

http://s46.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0K9BDWITU93LY1EAU0DZHAC3PO

Unfortunately, it cuts off at the end.

DeusExMachina 08-02-2005 09:22 PM

I haven't downloaded that, but did you get it off a p2p server, by any chance? If so, chances are, it isn't by DT. There was a supposed DT cover of Hey You and Comfortably Numb circulating on the interweb for awhile, but they turned out to just be live versions by Pink Floyd.

Kingofdudes 08-02-2005 09:27 PM

That "hey you" is legit

Legit as in by DT?

It definitely sounds like DT, and it's also a very nice cover.

DeusExMachina 08-03-2005 10:44 AM

Yeah, I just downloaded it, it does sound like them. I really don't like his vocals, but it was cool.

Thatnks. I'll take a look at it now.

Ihsahn 08-03-2005 02:54 PM

EDIT: Nevermind :)

robo2448 08-03-2005 05:52 PM

I'm really obsessed with Pigs right now. Ever since somebody uploaded those live performances of it, I've listened to it all the time. Both the live and studio versions. What an amazing song.

Yeah I love that solo they put in it, in your live preformances of it do you have the one where sombody lights a fire cracker and Roger flips out.

I'll upload a bootleg of it from Prism.

Hells Bells 08-03-2005 08:01 PM

Just read the article. Well, there goes those rumors of a North American tour I heard about this weekend. I had no idea his band members treated him so poorly...

Ill Mitch 08-03-2005 08:34 PM

I think it was mostly Gilmour.

DeusExMachina 08-03-2005 08:34 PM

That was an interesting interview. From my understanding though, Roger Waters treated the rest of the band pretty poorly too. My understanding had always been he was more of the abusive one, not the abused one.

Out of curiousity, why does everyone post links with hxxp as opposed to http?

MBS 08-03-2005 08:41 PM

Yeah, that's been on my mind, I think it's some sort of glitch. Are you using firefox?

Pink Floyd's on right now on VH1

You Send It are tracing where all their links go and if they find one on a forum which is illegally sharing music then they block it. You put the hxxp so they can't trace and block your link :)

Kingofdudes 08-03-2005 08:46 PM

I think mx has made YSI's black list. Some of the non hxxp links shutdown in seconds.

DeusExMachina 08-03-2005 09:51 PM

Ahh. ****. I just uploaded something and posted an http link. Hopefully they won't track video game roms.

ATM 08-03-2005 09:52 PM
I think mx has made YSI's black list. Some of the non hxxp links shutdown in seconds.
I post on another from that uses YSI, and they just post them normally with http.

Kingofdudes 08-03-2005 09:53 PM
Ahh. ****. I just uploaded something and posted an http link. Hopefully they won't track video game roms.
Its blocked already :(

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-03-2005 10:35 PM

I think YSI has started blocking every file posted on mx, because I doubt that sharing ROMs is illegal.

Clown 08-03-2005 11:25 PM

I just uploaded the Yngwie Album, and only 2 poeple were able to get it before it was blocked. Same goes with all the songs I post.

moaner 08-04-2005 05:55 AM

I have zero sympatrhy with Roger for what happened. The others weren't jealous- they were annoyed at the simplistic direction Roger was leading them. And he really does sing out of tune quite a lot.

Six Foot Revolver 08-04-2005 05:58 AM

Well if you post them with hxxp instead of http then YSI can't trace them so they won't get blocked :)

DeusExMachina 08-04-2005 07:15 AM

I agree. He can whine, but he really was being dictatorial with the band.

moaner 08-04-2005 08:43 AM

Also, he's such a hypocrite.

he keeps going on about how much he loves the blues, but i don't hear an ounce of blues influence in any of his playing. Dave is an extremely bluesy player sometimes, but roger? no.

In live at pompeii, which one band member isn't having fun playing "seamus"?

Lunch 08-04-2005 10:16 AM

I don't mind that. You can love something without being influenced by it.

MBS 08-04-2005 11:35 AM
In live at pompeii, which one band member isn't having fun playing "seamus"?
Well Seamus was voted the worst Pink Floyd song ever....

Johnny Appleseed 08-04-2005 11:40 AM

Any of the songs off of the Wish You Were here album are undoutably the greatest pink floyd songs known to man.
And YOU know it

MBS 08-04-2005 11:44 AM

I dunno, Time, Echoes, Money, Comfortably Numb, Pigs (3 Different Ones), and Dogs are all pretty good too, but Wish You Were Here is definetly an exceptional album.
