Its just a nice little bonus track that you wouldn't find if you just flipped through the songs... perhaps its a message the album must be listened to as a whole? Notice how every song flows perfectly...

Ahh, here is the PC/iPod friendly version of 'Reverie/Harlequin Forest'
hxxp://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0NKXMODOVSKBI1QS4ORRHBRR9T
All I did was cut the end section out of 'Atonement', insert it into 'Harlequin Forest', mix it down, and added a slight fade to that repeating riff at the very end of it.

If anybody wants the 5:20 version of 'Atonement' also, I'll get around to YSIing it tomorrow.

Cardboard Headgear 08-31-2005 11:18 PM

It's not neccessarily meant to be the beginning or end of a track, its just meant to be there. And it's not a mastering error, cause things dont just end up on negative time when someone screws up. It's simply a segue between the two songs that was given it's own little part on the album without giving it it's own track.

LeperAffinity 08-31-2005 11:30 PM

So I'm finally returning to this thread now that I've heard the album. I somehow managed to resist all temptation and avoided listening to it before buying it on Tuesday, and I'm just floored. My current track of the moment is "Hours of Wealth", such an amazingly beautiful song.

Det_Nosnip 08-31-2005 11:58 PM
Uh....hard to tell if you think that's a good thing or not.
I personally dig the album. But I've already said that.
It is! Dam nation was one of my favorites. It somehow captured that same essence, while introducing heavier sections as well and maintaining that classic Opeth sound.

Simon__Thats_All 09-01-2005 01:34 AM

Can't wait to buy this album. I love Opeth. Too bad we only have shitty music stores here, might have to order it online.

Distorted Vision 09-01-2005 03:56 AM
Just out of interest, what Opeth album do you guys think it sounds most like so far?
For me, it is like Blackwater Park's sister album. I can just sense so many similarities between the two, and it feels like Deliverance and Damnation didn't happen (not in a negative way, but this album seems the natural progression from Still Life and BWP).

the2stranger 09-01-2005 04:11 AM

I have a very Stll Life feel to this album. but it might chnage as I haven't listened all that much to the new album

I dont think we have anything to fear, and i think people who accuse them of going commercial are insulting them really, after 15 years of existance or however long its been, there is still no other band on the planet sound anything like they do, and they still manage to stay fresh, people might not like the newer stuff as much as say morningrise, but you just have to step back and accept that theyre evolving, (btw this isnt a rant at you, i was just using your quote as a starting point! :p )

Slapping Penguin 09-01-2005 05:34 AM

Can anyone tell me the real reason they kicked Johan out of the band because his bass playing on Morning and Orchid is beyond godly not techiniqly but just intresting lines.

haha :p

well, what can I say, I ttotaly agree with you.
at first I was a bit afraid they would sell-out because of Roadrunner, but really, having released 7 ( now 8) albums of high standards and still being unique made me decide to change my point of view :)

Slapping Penguin 09-01-2005 05:42 AM

Yeah but alot of Metalheads act like as soon as band is very popular they have sold out or that just sell out.

iofsuicide 09-01-2005 05:42 AM

i'm going to see them live next wed! wooooooo! cant wait, not seen them live before, they are pretty much my favourite band (depending on my listening mood!) makes me laugh when you read their biography on their website, and they just say yeah we just got together and threw some stuff togther on the day, their songs are great, you can listen to them over and over and still hear something new after loads of listens, yeah i dont think roadrunner is selling out, i think it'll just get them the respect they deserve, at the end of the day, if your a band you just want as many people to be able to hear your music as possible, and roadrunner will allow that to happen, i have no doubt that they'll stay true to themselves

Opeth E-card with two tracks from the new album.

Cain 09-01-2005 08:54 AM

Let no one fear that Opeth has sold out. This album is amazing. Just downloaded "Ghost Reveries" off of iTunes, and it's friggin' great.

Man... this concept is a bit harder to figer out then Still Life was... Still Life I pretty much got it on first listen. But this one is a bit deeper I think... Has anyone else figered anything out? (except the fact that it has to do with being chased by hounds possibly in a forest called Harlequin...)

It has to do with occult themes, black magic, stuff like that. The Grand Conjuration is about a black mass, I haven't examined most of the lyrics though.
What are the concepts of some of their albums?

Darkness 09-01-2005 11:45 AM

Still Life is about a man coming home after being banned from his village for 15 years to find a girl he fell in love with, stuff happens, and the girl agrees to elope with him. Shes killed due to crimes against her husband and the main character is hung.

MAYH is something about a man dieing and watching his wife slowly forget about him or something like that.

And yeah I know it has to do with occult themes, but is there some kind of story, similar to these?

Phobophile 09-01-2005 12:23 PM

Why is trying to save the Ghost Reveries file as a Guitar Pro file? It says .rar but when it comes on my computer it opens it up under guitar pro and nothing else.

Lucky fuck!

These concepts are very interesting, and sad. Does anyone know where I can find in depth interpretations of their concept album's lyrics?
