my first year apprenticeship wages were shit but somehow I still manage to put away $100 a week to save with whilst living as frugally as possible

now i've gone up to my second it's increased by $40 or so, which doesn't seem like much but I really do appreciate having it there

yeah to show his appreciation to me my boss recently gave me a raise to $10 an hour which is damn nice for a part-time job

my parents provide rent, food, etc. and i go to school on a scholarship, so i just have to pay for my own expenses (going out/drinking/whatever)

$10 an hour is below minimum wage here.

i imagine a college town in kansas and a large city in canada have different standards of living

I was paying off my $9000 motorbike which really tied me up for a bit but my dad and his wife decided to just give it to me

was struggling a bit, he feels it makes up for all the things I didn't have when I was a kid I guess.

BC has $8 min wage (lowest in country) probably because its full of chinamen and albertas is 8.80

kansas has $7.25 which is the federal low. i think the biggest difference is obviously the political philosophies at work, canada favors a safety net (correct me if i'm wrong) whereas america traditionally (supposedly) eschews that philosophy. also, to be honest, most of kansas is farmland and that's where a lot of our money comes from.

i haven't studied economics since my senior year of high school so i could be completely wrong, i'm just speculating
