Jam2Me 09-18-2005 09:43 AM

I saw a Woody Guthrie cover band last night, very awesome.

robo2448 09-18-2005 09:45 AM
Hah, I know. That was a little joke in two ways. First because Mr. Fantasy doesn't sound like an acid trip and second because I like it, both of which seem to be reasons you wouldn't like it  All joking though.
Lunch, would you call some of Traffic's later stuff progressive? I heard some of Low Spark of the High-Heeled Boys at my friend's house, and it was kind of jazzy and seemed proggish as well.

Woody Guthrie was cool.

I've got to start going to more cheap local concerts, I went to a ska show last week and had an awesome time.

Certainly. I think when you asked about Traffic I even tried to describe some of their later stuff as slightly proggish. There is notice of it on John Barleycorn Must Die as well.

Cool. I liked it. I think I'm going to buy Mr. Fantasy first, and then move on to their later stuff.

Edit- Speaking of local concerts, there is this awesome local band in my town. Kind of a jam band, but they're pretty diverse. The guitarist is awesome and really good at jamming. Good voice too. The drummer has metal influences, but he's awesome. A friend of mine just joined them to play keyboards, and he's into Yes and other prog. The bassist is alright, and the rythm guitarist sucks, but they don't really subtract from the band. I know Friday night, they were supposed to meet with someone from Verve records. That'd be cool if they made it big.

Lunch 09-18-2005 09:49 AM

If you really dig them, you might as well go chronologically. Mr. Fantasy was their first album.

JonG 09-18-2005 09:56 AM

Get "Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" and "John Barleycorn Must Die"

And, for some reason Forever Changes didn't upload, so I'm re-doing it.

Lunch 09-18-2005 10:05 AM

I still need to get a Traffic live album, though I'm undecided between Welcome to the Canteen and On the Road.

JonG 09-18-2005 10:31 AM

They both look really good, but I'd settle for "Welcome to the Canteen"

Last night I was browsing through Traffic cds on Amazon, and most people complained about the quality for Welcome to the Canteen. Probably still really good though.

Compared to CD quality these days, it probably isn't as good. Probably 128 or so. Not 256.

I might download a sample, and see for myself. It also has the original members :)

I listened to a few 30 second samples from it last night, and it didn't seem that bad. You can't tell much from 30 seconds though. I don't remember what Amazon said about On the Road.

Glitterati 09-18-2005 11:05 AM

For those who like them, what's everyone's favorite Beach Boys song(s)?

My favorite is Sloop John B.

That is a very cool song, one of my favorites on Pet Sounds.

I love the beginning on Good Vibrations, where it's quieter than the "Good vibrations" part. The vocals on the intro are awesome.

EDIT: The vocals on God Only Knows are great too.

PinkFreud 09-18-2005 11:12 AM

god only knows

of course. haha.
I agree what the hell took them so long to get Miles Davis, The Stooges and Black Sabbath up there!? Jeff Beck should get in. :(

NP: Jeff's Boogie (live) - Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck isn't in the Hall of Fame? Thats not even funny... Sabbath should definitly get in, as should Skinnard. I hope the Sex Pistols do, too.

"This is the worst trip I've ever been on!"

My favorite song also and theme song for a trip I spent with my mom in Seattle.

Glitterati 09-18-2005 11:31 AM

Yeah. It's ridiculous that Jeff isn't in there.

Clapton probably is.

I doo

So I'm trying to get involved with a local brass/percussion band that is in need of a trombone. I figured it couldn't hurt

Broken Arrow 09-18-2005 11:42 AM

I was just in London, I got a "Meddle" shirt is pretty nice.

I also listened to "Rubber Factory" by the Black Keys, does anyone have it and want to send it to me?

robo2448 09-18-2005 11:44 AM
Does anybody have With The Beatles? its the only one i need till i have all of the Beatles stduio albums
I do. I could probably do it sometime this afternoon. It's not one of the Beatles bet, but still good. I don't think it's as good as Please Please Me or A Hard Day's Night, but it's very similar to those. Money is really awesome from that though.

As long as we're on the topic of the topic of uploading, did anyone listen to Dylan Live '75 yet?

Edit- Walrus beat me. If she doesn't do it, I'll do it.

Jacaranda 09-18-2005 11:46 AM

I could have swore I had Rubber Factory but I don't.

Hey Walrus could you do Eat a Peach

Yea, and everyone knows Jeff Beck > Eric Clapton. :(

I don't know why Clapton is even considered that great of a guitarist.

Broken Arrow 09-18-2005 11:48 AM

I like Clapton way more than Beck.

Oh yeah, I got a Cream shirt for my birthday too.

But my birthday was in June.

Meh, for me Cream > Jeff Beck, Claptons Solo Career < Jeff Beck. I don't really think Clapton's solo career is great, at all. He had what, two great songs?
