What?!?! Led Zeppelin steal songs?
No way. |
I've always preferred other people's versions of Dylan's songs. Dylan himself is pretty good, and a **** good songwriter, but in most cases (especially Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds) I prefer the other versions more.

i mostly prefer dylans versions.
What?!?! Led Zeppelin steal songs?
No way.
 Speaking of Zeppelin, I saw Robert Plant in concert tonight. REALLY good show. He hasn't lost his voice at all. In fact it sounded better than before IMO. But ya, if Plant's coming to any of your guys' home towns, I suggest you buy tickets, you won't be disappointed. |

The Byrds cut out so many (great)lyrics. :(
If you guys had to give up one what it be: Woodstock (DVD) or the Last Waltz (DVD)? |
I'll pass. ;)
What-Ever. :p |
Skynyrd, Sabbath, Mellencamp, and The Dave Clark Five should definitely be in there.
|

Paul Butterfield!
Schyma: That is a hard choice. I'm uploading Love - "Forever Changes" right now. |
The Stooges!
I dunno if Grandmaster Flash and Miles Davis belong in a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, but I love them both so I want to see them in. and Chic  |
Hmm. I don't like many of the nominees/don't think they should be there. The J. Geils Band? Sorry I just don't think they should be up there with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
|
Sabbath needs to get in the Hall of Fame. And I don't know if Rush is....if they're not they should.
|
i also agree with sabbath getting in, sabbath is such a huge influence for almost every band aftarwards
|

 Yeah, I wonder where GY!BE, NWA, and Sonic Youth would be without Black Sabbath. |
agreed
|
I agree what the hell took them so long to get Miles Davis, The Stooges and Black Sabbath up there!? Jeff Beck should get in. :(
NP: Jeff's Boogie (live) - Jeff Beck |
Oh, my he's not in the Hall of Fame?
Cat Stevens before Jeff Beck? (I didn't want to pick on J. Geils again) Jeff Beck did more to the guitar then Cat Stevens did to Rock. They seem to be just letting anyone in these days.
The Sir Douglas Quintet was formed in San Antonio in the 1960s and scored a 1965 hit single, "She's About a Mover." Frontman Doug Sahm died in 1999 of heart failure.
I've never heard of them but if they've only had one hit single why are they getting nominated? Maybe I'm wrong and they deserve it but I'm not too sure.
Disco scenesters Chic scored their first massive hit in 1977 with "Dance, Dance, Dance." Frontman Nile Rodgers later went on to produce hits for artists including Madonna, Debbie Harry and David Bowie.
Ugh, I won't even start on the "Disco Scenesters" that get nominated while Jeff is left out. Well the Yardbirds are in it so I guess that's not half as bad. *Gasp* No Deep Purple I'm enraged again. Oh, thanks Schyma I didn't even notice. (Guess you don't really notice till you change your settings) |
The Stooges are pretty class, good proto-punk and Iggy Pop is a great stage performer. I'd say Wolfmother are a better classic rock based band than Jet, re-emergence of the power-trio, just without the virtuosity. Some solid, powerful riffs though.
yeah yeah, true. Wolfmother are awesome, they are the next big thing. GO THE HAIRBAND! |
I just found out there's 2 Kaleidoscopes. :amaze:
For the record: LA scene > SF scene /bump |
The Stooges, Paul Butterfield, and Miles Davis should get in IMO.
|
Paul Butterfield I could do without.
|
This album is already boring me. :(
Oh well at least we can agree on one thing........ Traffic does infact rule. :D
You actually like Mr. Fantasy? I'm impressed. Note: So there isn't any confusion, I'm a big Traffic fan I like Mr. Fantasy. I wasn't trying to sound as though it was a bad album. |
Yeah, did anyone notice that the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has a bias towards the heavier bands?
|
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
This is the thread for general classic rock discussion.
Classic rock kicks *** and it will never die! |
Yea,dont quote from the first page from now on,k.
Classic rock kicks *** and it will never die!
Andrew W.K. is bringing it back. I swear. |
Yeah, did anyone notice that the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has a bias towards the heavier bands?
No, but who cares about that? :p
You actually like Mr. Fantasy? I'm impressed.
What do you mean impressed? Just because it's not extremly psychedelic doesn't mean I won't like it ya' know? I try to listin to quality music nothing more and nothing less. More the self titled than Mr. Fantasy BTW. I just wish I had it. I had a friend who had it on vinyl and I was the the only one of my friends who dug it. :-/ |
The Stooges and Black Sabbath should definitely be in there.
The Sex Pistols...meh :-\ |
I hate Black Sabbath, but they definitely deserve to be in there.
I'd go with Sabbath, Stooges, and Miles Davis. All were incredibly important and have influenced many more recent bands. I like Paul Butterfield a lot too, but he's not as important as those 3. It's funny, my parents mentioned The Dave Clark 5 to me at dinner the other night. He said that they were exactly like the early Beatles, and even played on the Ed Sullivan Show with them, but they kind of burned out after releasing like 1 hit. |

Hah, I know. That was a little joke in two ways. First because Mr. Fantasy doesn't sound like an acid trip and second because I like it, both of which seem to be reasons you wouldn't like it  All joking though. |
