Hmm. It's probably gotta be somewhere between november 20th and 24th for the UK... We all love christmas shopping!

Yay, it's a week until i go to exeter college, and the month of december starts!

Bonham#1! 11-24-2006 04:27 PM

Man we have no snow. So uncomon for Canada, and it saddens me. Damn you global warming

Snarz 11-24-2006 04:35 PM

^lol.

Who thinks I should sell my Nitro p0wered rc truck and get a nitro rc powered car or money and spend it on drum gear?

Josiah 11-24-2006 04:41 PM

Sell it and get a helicopter! Though I suggest starting with a electric one first. The Sabre EF is a great one to startwith, prob want to upgrade the frame to the SuperSkids however.

Chippy569 11-24-2006 04:45 PM

i went shopping today. i went to the UPS store and shipped off my old drumset (*tear*) and then I went to Target to try and return my broken Zen Micro but i didn't have a receipt.... so i bought a carribeaner for my car keys and left.

i miss the snow too. I ABSOLUTELY ****ING HATE cold weather without snow. As long as there's snow, i'm fine with it being -23488324 C. but man without snow it's just miserable.

Snarz 11-24-2006 04:47 PM

Yeah I was thinking about this heli..http://www.amazinghobbies.com/Blade-CP-RTF-Electric-Micro-Heli.htm but then would i use it as much as drum gear and since it's small I couldn't fly outside..

maniac0796 11-24-2006 04:51 PM

Me and my uncle from lebanon made a remote controlled aeroplane. But we never flew it... When i next go up to wales and see him, i might ask about it.

Josiah 11-24-2006 04:54 PM

The blade is good as well! Well you learn indoors, or outdoors on a VERY still day.

Once you learn how to just fly, then you can learn how to handle wind.. the electrics are more a learning tool for the real ones, but can be a lot of fun on their own.

I learned to fly mine over my bed, so crashes weren't so expensive

Drum Phil 11-24-2006 05:42 PM

8"+10" Mini tymps
6,8,10 Roto toms
6x16 + 6x18 Octobans

Which to get?

The tymps dont have hardware.

Josiah 11-24-2006 05:49 PM

Hmmm I'm a fan of the mini timps myself... easy to sneak in somewhere, unique sound, fairly cheap.

Drum Phil 11-24-2006 05:51 PM

Its mounting them thats the problem.

The clamp wont fit to my rack i dont think.

Josiah 11-24-2006 05:54 PM

Hmmm they gotta latch on to some cymbal arm or such somewhere i'd assume

Drum Phil 11-24-2006 05:57 PM

Bah.

The other 2 come with full stands. I might go up to one of the drum centres and see what kinda hardware the tymps DO come with.

Win A Rabbit 11-24-2006 06:00 PM

Hey guys, I'm leaving for work in less than an hour here, and I realized I should bring my cymbals in tonight.

It's 'jam night', so I'll be playing drums for 3 hours or so tonight, and getting paid. :thumb: But the kit there is a pearl forum with pearl hats and a pearl crash.

So it's a 5 minute walk for me to work, but it's 15-20 below outside, and I'm just wondering if I should wrap my cymbals in a towel or something? I've got them in a Sabian hard cymbal case, just wondering if the temperature is bad for them, even just for a 5 mintue walk there, then a 5 minute walk home later.

maniac0796 11-24-2006 06:02 PM

Cheers phil. that guy on ebay is kinda ripping people off then....

It's either i get that, a set of disk brakes, or some books/metronome which i can get off other people?

At the moment, the snare drum is winning, but it's annoying cos i'll have to go buy another stand for it.

Hmm, is it worth paying another £35 ontop of that for a snare stand...?

Josiah 11-24-2006 06:02 PM

Ya, octo's are cool, just big ya know? haha same with roto's, though i've seen some people get clever and cut the stand up to make them individually mountable, wich is somethig i would do myself.

Win A Rabbit - The temp shouldn't be aproblem for the cymbals what so ever. So long as they get a chance to reach room temp before you play on them, there should be no problems at all.

Might want o bring your kick pedal too and maybe a snare.

Okay cool. It'll be a good hour atleast into my shift before we start playing, so they'll come back up to room temp definately.

And I've tuned the drums myself there (also while on the clock, cha-ching, I love having drums at work) and got them nice enough to play on. They're no amazing drums, but they're playable atleast. The snare actually sounds great there, but I was thinking of bringing one of my own and having an aux, since I don't really know exactly what kind of music I'll be playing tonight.

I've got my kick pedal, clamp, and a couple pairs of sticks in my backpack already, as I'm not a fan of the kick pedal there.

Josiah 11-24-2006 06:14 PM

Excellent. Sounds like you are really on the ball man. Awesome to hear!

(ya gettin paid to play with drums is awesome!) where do you work?

maniac0796 11-24-2006 06:22 PM

Jos, were you being sarcastic in my china thread?

Win A Rabbit 11-24-2006 06:24 PM

At a youth centre. Technically I'm getting paid to "work", but tonight is a jam night, so me and 2 other workers (and one of the workers' boyfriend is coming) there are playing, 2 play guitar and one plays bass.

Then the kids bring their guitars or basses (sadly no drummers, but they're always asking me to teach them a little something when it's slow there. they're showing interest atleast.) and just basically do what they want musically for 5 hours. Play with us, play amongst themselves, teach each other something, etc.

I used to volunteer there before I got a job there, so I used to come once every second time and play drums for them, just basic rock stuff for them to play along with, it was always fun.

I'd probably have to get a second rail before i'd be willing to do that i imagine.

Josiah 11-24-2006 06:32 PM

Hmm ya, the one i saw that i liked hte most, the guy just cut up the 'rack' the roto's are on, and then welded aditional clamps on the 2 pieces that needed them. one could drill holes and bolt as well I assume

I dig roto's, but i'd only want 1 on my kit myself haha

Drum Phil 11-24-2006 06:34 PM

I know what you mean.

The way i was considering using them would be to put them where my rack tom is and move that as a second floor tom.

Hey Phil,

What is this snare good for? Drum 'n' Bass?

maniac0796 11-24-2006 06:37 PM

Jungle, drum n bass.

I'm probably gonna buy one to see if i can experiement with sounds, along with my beer keg and cowbells...

Josiah 11-24-2006 06:41 PM

I used to use a brake drum when i played for this ska band (LOOOOONG AGO!!), heavy bugger too, needed it's own heavy duty snare stand to hold. Sounded rad though.

xTimx 11-24-2006 06:52 PM

Hey Guys: my name is Tim. yes i know about the other tim. lol i'm 22 yrs old, i started playing when i was 9yrs old i believe. anyways my first set was 4 piece maxim red sparkle finish. it was a shitty set non the less lol. but when i got it i set it up by myself adn i got on the the throne (here's where i sound conceited) and i started playing a 4/4 rock beat on my own out of no where. it was pretty cool so needless to say i was a natural talent at playing drums. having no lesson by other teachers, i taught myself how to play more advanced by looking at tablature, and listening to songs. and i also found out that i have an ear for music too, it was pretty cool cause i could listen to a song and like with in 2 bars of the beat, i would play it in my mind, and after listening to the song once in my head i would be able to play along with it on drums. (sorry if i'm bragging but its the truth). so i started playing more, and later on i would save up money, my friend would bring over his set and we would combine them together to make a double kit. and thats where i learned to teach myself double bass. so this one time as a joke we decided to put our money together and rent a 5 peice kit, and combine all three kits into one, hmmm 5 toms, 3 floors, 3 snares, 2 kicks (excluded my maxim kick). ya it was massive. so high school came around and found out that this one guy was wanting to jam and such. he played guitar and formed a band. i bought new drums during the course of that time: tama rockstars, vintage blue, 3 toms, 2 floors, 2 kicks, it was a kick *** kit. big too. anyways our band did a huge yr end dance, out side on the basketball court it was awesome. then i stopped drumming after i got out of high school cause the band broke up, and i was moving out and i had no where to place my drums. so i sold them and here i am 4 yrs later not playing..

hope you like my story sorry if it was long lol.

Loser 11-24-2006 06:58 PM

So you don't drum anymore?

DW_ 11-24-2006 06:58 PM

So I just got my shell in the mail for the snare I'm going to make. I'm really excited, but it's a bummer right now because I won't have a chance to get any other pieces for it for a while. Cool nonetheless though.

Just felt like sharing

Brokensticks 11-24-2006 06:59 PM

Pics?

DW_ 11-24-2006 07:03 PM

No, I don't have any pics. But it's just a plain 6x14" 10-ply maple shell with bearing edge and snare bed.

xTimx 11-24-2006 07:15 PM
So you don't drum anymore?
well i cant right now for hmmm 3 reasons.
1. my apt. that i'm in, has no room for a kit that i want.
2. the area that i live in is full of crime.
3. i have no money to start up again and i'm jobless.

there is this one singer, he's handicapped (spelling) he's got williams disease. so he can produce sound waves through out his brain where as us "normal" guys (sory for the term) can only produce the sound wave through half our brain. so he's really really good at singing, he does elvis songs and roy orboson songs too.. anyways he came up to me and got the idea of getting together and making up a group. but i told him my situation like the one above and he said he would pay half my drumset.
but whether thats gonna be true or not i dunno, could be nice lol.

but the set i really wanna get is called e-pek percussion. http://www.epekpercussion.com/home.html they're made here in regina sask, my home town. (canada) with a zildjian A custom cymbal set up. it'll be around 7000$ when its all said and done. the really cool thing about epek is that you can customize your own drumkit, powder coat your hardware, even signature your own kit! (it'll have your signature on the badges) virtually limitless things to do.

Brokensticks 11-24-2006 07:19 PM

You can get a nice kit for way under 7000$.
