Speaking of keyboards and chord progressions, I downloaded the guitar tabs for We're Not Gonna Take it by The Who, and put the chords in Cakewalk and set the instrument to be this really synthy organ. It sounds SOOOOO **** nice and cool. I'm thinking of rearranging it or something, I love the chord progression and I can do so much with it.
I'm assuming you're talking about the "lisning to you, I get the music..." part? That would be so awsome

Welcometothemachine: The Frank Zappa one sounds creepy :p

Jacaranda- I love Wakeman's amazing baroque solos, I forget the name of it, but one of the tracks on"Yesterdays" has such an incredible one

JonG 09-17-2005 08:10 PM

If I had a keyboard I'd learn Baba O'Riley. Such a great intro.

Isn't that keyboard?

Or am I an idiot.

You think that would be scary? I'd love to have a poster of "Apostrophe (')" album on my wall.

Not so much as a Hot Rats one

Won't Get Fooled Again would be so ****ing sick to be able to play

Yeah, it's like a delayed guitar. It comes in, then out, then in.

Incredibly cool.

Lunch 09-17-2005 08:14 PM

It's like a synth/keyboard. I don't really know.

magicbus 09-17-2005 08:15 PM

Yea its a synth. The same kind that Pink Floyd used to make "On The Run". The same kind that I want to buy but can't find anywhere :(

JonG 09-17-2005 08:19 PM

I loooove the synth in that song.

Not to mention the vocals.

Distant Echoes 09-17-2005 08:21 PM

I wanted to get a keyboard a while ago...didnt stick thru with it.
I listened to Quadrophenia a few days ago and wanted one again. Everybody in the other forums are suggesting keyboards over $600, i just dont wanna spend that much.

Any Colour You Like is were it at. The Keyboards and Guitar blend so well.

JonG 09-17-2005 08:22 PM

I wouldn't mind a keyboard either. Would be really fun to learn.

Lunch 09-17-2005 08:24 PM

I really dig the keyboards at the begining of Love, Reign O'er Me. Slow and simple, but very emotional.

jpj 09-17-2005 08:28 PM

Gah, why do I always miss the things I want to reply to? :upset:

/thinks about something CR related

That Dead DVD from '89 that I thought was gonna suck, was actually really good. They play Terrapin Station and All Along the Watchtower, which is cool

The whole thing, with the strings and the chorus and everything?

Lunch 09-17-2005 08:30 PM

I love how the Dead can cover whatever song they want to and make it cool.

WelcomeToTheMachine 09-17-2005 08:34 PM

Yeah i always loved it when the dead covered Hey Jude and Dear Mr. Fantasy

Does anyone know who wrote'She Has Funny Cars'?

i have it on my Allman Brothers Band box set and on my Jefferson Airplane cd

I think that is Jefferson Airplane on Surrealistic Pillow.

Lunch 09-17-2005 08:38 PM

It was originally on Surrealistic Pillow. At least, that's my best guess. It doesn't sound like something that was written by a band before them.

Which reminds me, Surrealistic Pillow is an amazing album.

jpj 09-17-2005 08:48 PM
The whole thing, with the strings and the chorus and everything?
I think Brent Mydland may have done used a string effect on his keyboard for it, I can't remember.
Which reminds me, Surrealistic Pillow is an amazing album.
I don't get what all the fuss is about with the Jefferson Airplane. They are soooo boring and non-trippy. (why is it called psychedelic?) It's not that it's not trippy either. I just think they're flat out boring and I'd offer to listin to Surrastic Pillow when I toke up tonight but it's so boring I'd probablly fall asleep.
More like 101 and a half fingers, with all the members they've had.

Should I post my senior paper on progressive rock, concept albums, and rock operas? Something anybody here might use as sources for papers of their own?
I dont know how many other people out there would read it but i want to. If you dont wanna post it just email it to:
styx_rock_man@yahoo.com
I'm curious as to what you said.

I really love a few songs off of it, like White Rabbit especially. Actually, I probably only listen to it because I wish I could sing like Grace Slick

jpj 09-17-2005 08:59 PM

Surrealistic Pillow > Trout Mask Replica

/mildly irrelevant

I love that song its so easy to memorize and its fun to sing also.

Grace Slick is one of my favorite singers.
I like Jefferson Airplane cause they are really catchy. Every time I hear She Has Funny Cars I think its Break On Through for a the first secounds.

Agreed jpj.
Surrealistic Pillow > Trout Mask Replica

/mildly irrelevant
Can't really compare the two.

I can compare these two though:

Grace Slick < Dorothy Moskowitz (USA's female singer)

Krabsworth 09-17-2005 09:08 PM

I think Jefferson Airplane is a load of phony hippies.

/shanks you

I like 'em.

Love the female voice, tbh.

It's weird.

I disagree. ..and I've never heard that other lady's voice. When I do hear it, I'll still disagree. Grace Slick's voice is frickin' awesome, it gives me the chills every time I listen to "White Rabbit."

jpj 09-17-2005 09:28 PM
I don't know where you're from, but 'round here "shank" means something that rhymes with "shank" :-\
Shanking is when you pull down someone's pants.

JonG 09-17-2005 09:29 PM

To "shank" someone is to stab someone in the kidney. People see it used in prison shows and stuff.
