I'm not gonna lie, this is pretty disheartening.

After I get this album out to Japan, I'm going to suspend sales till I figure out a better way of doing this.

e-distribution.

get on itunes or something else? (i dont know how that works though)

try and get "radio play" or something equivalent to get exposer and possibly contract of some kind?

Mr. Jiggy Fly 11-02-2006 10:29 PM

I feel like a whore for saying this, but...

myspace it.

3 of my friends' bands have gotten signed through distribution using only myspace. 2 of those bands are actively touring right now.

Jody LeCompte 11-02-2006 10:49 PM

Lowsound, are you illiterate as well as dumb?

I'm not selling CDs right now.

BenJammin 11-02-2006 10:53 PM
You could, not do everything yourself?
Yeah, I'm looking into that now, Jody. I've already spent almost $60 on this (which I know isn't a lot). I don't know how much more I'll need to spend to get these professionally printed, but when I'm selling them for $5, it makes it hard to recover money spent.

BenJammin 11-02-2006 10:53 PM

Message me with your address.

I printed off 4 CDs tonight and I'll send one to you.

Jody LeCompte 11-02-2006 10:56 PM

I could maybe help you out. My dad works in a printing shop. Sneak some labels everynow and then. -shrug- Just an idea.

British Kid 11-02-2006 10:56 PM

no, its ok

sell those, since you need more money to get things going.

i'd suggest raising the price of CDs.

Left Shoe 11-02-2006 10:57 PM

im out, ben lemme know if there is anything i can do

Eh, it doesn't really matter. I sold one tonight already, and I've got at least 2 more sales tomorrow.

I could raise the price, but man, I'd feel guilty. I don't think it's worth more than $5.

Jody LeCompte 11-02-2006 10:58 PM

Cds are worthless in general, might as well make some money.

BenJammin 11-02-2006 11:02 PM
Cds are worthless in general, might as well make some money.
Hm.. no. Someday, when I'm a talented, respected musician, I'll feel comfortable charing $15-20 for a CD. But right now, for a general nobody who recorded this CD for free at home, $5 seems right. I might bump it up to $6-6.50, but that makes me uneasy.

Jody LeCompte 11-02-2006 11:04 PM

Since most people just rip cds and put them on their ipod, you could make a download website with a download charge and then offer cds at a later date?

$5 is a good price.

But that totally makes all of Kyle's hard work on the art go to waste, and I like the prospect of a good ole fashioned CD. And I have no idea how to do the download site thing, anyway.

can you submit to Itunes or something?

what about that pay-per-download thing on soundclick?

BenJammin 11-02-2006 11:08 PM

The thing about that though is that part of the price goes to the site, which means I then definitely have to boost the price in order to make the same amount as before.

Spaceman Spiff 11-02-2006 11:09 PM

Ben, I'm sure you could get copies made for cheaper than doing it all on your own and always having to buy more ink.

Efrim 11-02-2006 11:09 PM

myspace.com/obscura_records_film_art

For online distribution only. I think they would accept you, Raayl uses them, and they added me.

funkyhoney 11-02-2006 11:10 PM

howdy all, whats going on?

Efrim 11-02-2006 11:13 PM

Ben's having a crisis.
Ben, I'm sure you could get copies made for cheaper than doing it all on your own and always having to buy more ink.
I'm gonna have to look into that. As of right now, I'm not printing any more CDs.

Spaceman Spiff 11-02-2006 11:13 PM

It's damn cold outside... getting high shortly is going to be a bitch.

Though I do have one spot I could go that's free of wind... but it means I need to stand.

Is it worth it to stand and be completely out of the wind, or should I sit and be partially in the wind?

Efrim 11-02-2006 11:15 PM

Stand. Wind makes me sick.

Jody LeCompte 11-02-2006 11:16 PM

My dad says the average price of printing album covers in the area is 75 cents a sheet, each sheet being two labels. Two hundred labels for $15 bucks would be saving.

:| Uh, yeah.

Jody LeCompte 11-02-2006 11:17 PM

Well, Im assuming the prices would be a tad bit different, but the mechanics still apply.

Spaceman Spiff 11-02-2006 11:17 PM
Stand. Wind makes me sick.
I was leaning toward that.

I have a greenhouse/shed type thing in the back of my house, which is where I'd be headed. It's pretty convenient. :D

BenJammin 11-02-2006 11:19 PM
Well, Im assuming the prices would be a tad bit different, but the mechanics still apply.
Yeah. I don't necessarily want someone to assemble it all for me. If I can just get copies of stuff made, I can do the assembling myself.

funkyhoney 11-02-2006 11:20 PM
Ben's having a crisis.
:amaze: i can see that
