a friend in need

i need new cymbols (badly), but i dont have that much money, so im just wondering which cymbols are the best out of the cheap packs from paiste, zildjian and sabian. if there are any others that are good let me know.

PS: i like bright sounding hats and crashes and a darker ride.

We_Love_Lime 09-15-2006 05:07 AM

Wuhan?

If your on a budget.

Don't buy cheap Packs, like Solar, Zbt/Zxt/Zxti.

I heard that Sabian b8s were the best beginner pack for your money, but You're not going to neccesarrily get a bright sounding hat and some crashes and a dark sounding ride with that.

Pst5 by Paiste is supposed to be good as well.

If you tell us your budget maybe you could help us out more?

etw20002 09-15-2006 03:02 PM

my budget is basically about 200 bucks, and i could go with just some hats and 2 crashes, just because my ride isn't that bad haha.

We_Love_Lime 09-15-2006 04:57 PM

well with 200 you might be able to buy a full pack of Wuhans, yeah probably.

You might be able to find a used pair of high hats ( New Beats ) for like 1 30, and maybe a crash for the other 70, but that's it.

Cymbals are expensive, I'd suggest saving up like a lot a lot, and than buying them each individually, but if you really ned some cymbals. Wuhan.

get some good hihats...worry about crashes later. bump that up to like $230 and get some basic high level hihats like A series or AAX

etw20002 09-16-2006 01:14 AM

sweet, thanks a lot guys.

what other hats have that intense "chick"ie bright sound?

We_Love_Lime 09-16-2006 08:39 AM

A Custom Mastersounds?

A Customs are supposed to be bright.
I heard K/Z Dyno Beats are failry good.

saars 09-16-2006 07:00 PM

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on the 19" Z (not Z custom) Rock Crash? Will it work well with my 18" AAXplosion and 21" sweet ride?

HeLLmO 09-16-2006 07:36 PM

Z, hmm, that's old school, which means probably vintage, which will probably sound good. i definatly think it would fit with the AAXplosion

bobby__johnny 09-16-2006 09:37 PM

probably would work....i'd advise against it though. the AAXplosion is a quick burst, no a whole lot of sustain...that monster on the otherhand, is a heavier crash, and big....thats gonna roar nice and highpitched like....

your best bet is an AAX stage crash...maybe a 17" or 18" model

HeLLmO 09-16-2006 09:41 PM

Bobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gives hetero e-hug

bobby__johnny 09-16-2006 09:42 PM

heh.....nice to see a thread from a bajillion years ago is still going

HeLLmO 09-16-2006 09:43 PM

damnit, I found a great deal on the Z crash and I really didn't want to pass it up. =l

older Z's were really good. I like some of the Z Customs too. How much was the Z?

saars 09-17-2006 11:35 AM

It's going for 100 USD. I'm still considering on buying it.:)

yama_stage_advantage 09-18-2006 07:44 PM

ok so... im ordering on friday new hats help me choose the best.wich of these one will give me a good live and studio sound and good stick definition

1.A custom mastersound 14
2.2002 medium hats
3.a custom hats 14

stylers_new_account 09-18-2006 08:12 PM

i would go with 1. but i havent tried 2.

HeLLmO 09-18-2006 08:20 PM

the 2oo2s or the regular A Customs

bobby__johnny 09-18-2006 08:28 PM

actually, of the 3 - neither.

look into something like A. Zildjian Quick beats/AA Fusion hats.

those are the meaning of Definition, and sound great in studio

Seafroggys 09-18-2006 08:40 PM

everybody knows the definition of the high-hat are New Beats

Bobby, now that you are here, you can help me with this, since not many people did when I last posted this. I have two crashes, an 18" AA Medium Crash, and an 18" 2002 Classic Crash. I want a third crash that would contrast these two bright rock crashes by being mellow and dark, but it shouldn't clash tonally where I can't use it in direct conjunction with the two other crashes. pretty much, a darker alternative. Looking maybe in the 17" range, its not small enough to be buried by the two 18 inchers but also have some variety in my cymbal sizes :D

Someone has suggested Paiste Sigs, wondering what you would think as well.

HeLLmO 09-18-2006 08:41 PM

amen my man, Quick Beats are insane, if i werent gettin' AAX sizzle hats, i'd totally be gettin' those

well if were going out of the three i would go for 15" paiste giant beats.

chick, stick definition, and studio performance galore!

saars 09-19-2006 04:21 PM

out of those? I'd go for the 2002's. They're so crisp!

K Custom Special Dry Crash in 17" or 18" would go well. They're mellow as

Im looking for a certain china. A china with a warm, quiet tone with a litle bit of swishyness to it.

We_Love_Lime 09-19-2006 08:47 PM

Uhm.

K China?
Or a Swish Knocker?

Or Jeff Hamilton's uhh Hammer is it? Signature Bosphorus China, that thing sounds like sex on his drummerworld video.

MeaninglessPhoto 09-19-2006 08:56 PM

I was actually thinking about a K china. Im going up to GC tommorrow and try one out if they have em. Im thinking 19"

We_Love_Lime 09-19-2006 08:58 PM

I think that's the one I played.

Good Idea Meaningless.
