Does anyone else in here think of Pink Floyd as almost two different bands sometimes? Thinking about my favorite album, I really though about how amazingly different PATGOD and SFoS are from WYWH and Animals.
Favorite album(right now): Piper Song: Intersteller Overdrive, Let There Be More Light, One of These Days, When You're In, Eclipse, SOYCD, Dogs, Hey You, Is There Anybody Out There. |
I must add: Hey You and Us And Them
such good songs |
I love Us and Them. It was one of the first songs that showed me the glory that is Pink Floyd.
|
Favourite Album: Wish You Were Here, Obscure By Clouds
Favourite songs(not including those on albums mentioned above): One Of These Days, Echoes, The Trial, Us And Them, Brain Damage/Eclipse, Goodbye Blue Sky, Sheep |
Adding on to my comment on the oooh's and ahh's in the solo, if you listen carefully the way the guitar build up sounds like someone is inhaling, and then Gilmour just kind of plays this soft relaxing lick at on the aahs like someone is exhaling (Breathe??)
Listen to the solo, you'll get what I'm talking about. Specifically at 4:28 in the song. But... album: Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall I can't I have a TRUE favorite Pink Floyd song, as it keeps on switching, but just listening to the whole albums is what I do. Has anyone heard any instrumental versions of the songs? http://cdzinc.com/16K/rock/M_R/pinkfloyd.html Go here and check out Orchestral Maneuvers. It's a really good streaming site, like XSAO, someone posted it in the CR thread a while back. I really like how they did the Another Brick in the Wall 1, Happiest Years of Our Lives, Another Brick in the Wall Part 2. Hell, it's better than Korn's cover :) Also, listen to Wish You Were Here on that album. It's fantastic, I swear to God, I want to buy it. Edit: That was a long post! |
I'm listening again, they're doing a great job on Money.
I forgot to mention Hey You. I didn't listen to all of Run Like Hell, but that was mediocre to me. |
I want to do the favourite album and song thing too... Here I go:
Album: WYWH Songs: SOYCD, Echoes, Money, Time, Dogs, Comfortably Numb, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Astronomy Domine, Bike and, of course, WYWH PS: Malcolm and I have basically the same avatar, the only difference is the band. =P |

How many people get chills when they listen to The Wall?
|
I think a PF tribute band just finished touring Australia, it's a shame I missed them.
|
Hey, Strum got his old account back.
Nice. Are you thinking of that Australian PF cover band? They're supposed to be REALLY good. |
Yeah! I heard they were good, I just had no money to see them at that point in time.
And yeah! it's nice to have my account back. |
It seems your avatar is just stuck on "Some Loving"
|
I could make one like yours.
Like I made this one.
I'm not saying that you can't, I was just pointing out the resemblence. Anyways, has anyone here has heard anything from a band called Soft Machine? They used to play in the UFO like Pink Floyd, and it is said that Pink Floyd took the light show from them. Are they any good? |
It seems your avatar is just stuck on "Some Loving"
I don't know why, but it only does that when I use Mozilla. If I use IE it starts working agian. |

Me too. In fact, I was just talking to another guy about Shine on You Crazy Diamond in the Audio Arena forum, about how sometimes you just kind of shiver. Here's my post:
Yeah, I agree with Shine on You Crazy Diamond. If you want to feel one of the weirdest sensations you've ever felt, get in bed, turn all the lights and sound off, put on headphones, and play SoYCD at full volume. The whole thing is awesome, but when it gets to the part when the music has almost completely faded out, and all of a sudden Gilmour plays the Syd theme (the four-note riff), you get goosebumps and just lose your breath. It's crazy. Also, when he's played it like three times, and then plays it again like two beats before the other times and the drums start to lead up to the "rock-and-roll" part of the song, you can hear a guy breathing hard like he's running. That is one awesome song. Oh, and more on topic, I was sitting in Ruby Tuesday and it was real loud and you couldn't hear the music, but then I heard this "aaahhhhhh" and then "is there anybody OUT THERE" That was the first time I'd heard it on the radio. I was just sitting there with like half a rack of ribs left on my plate straining my ears to listen, and every once in a while I'd pick out a beautiful acoustic ote in the aforementioned riff. The weirdest thing was that I wa ssort of playing the song in my head, and all the notes I heard matched up perfectly. i guess that's what happens when you listen to The Wall as you sleep; it gets burnt into your brain permenantly.
|
I'm not saying that you can't, I was just pointing out the resemblence.
I guess you took that the wrong way haha. I made it, but it's 2 KB too big. I love that Syd riff, it's just so eerie and spooky... |
The Wall is an amazing album. Just amazing.
|
I'm so mad right now, every time I go to any music store, they never have PATGOD. I can't ever find it. :upset:
|
Favorite Album: Dark Side of the Moon
Favorite Song: Echoes btw am I the only one who is scared sh1tless by Echoes? It's ****ing creepy as hell, especially that last noise, it sounds like a bunch of ghostly moans ascending in a ghost elevator or something... scary stuff... |
Well, legend has it that Floyd were approached to do the final 11 minute sequence of 2001: A Space Oddessy. They declined, but when they saw how good it was, they decided to do the sequence themselves. Hence the beeping at the start, etc.
|
I heard that the "beeping" was accidental. Apparently wright (I think hes the keyboard player, i never remember) just pushed one key for the sake of it and they all stopped and wrote a song after that.
|
I love echoes, the buildup is just fantastic.
Fave album has to be wish you were here though, every song is fantastic. It has special meaning to me too, the first floyd song I ever heard was wish you were here on my dads old vinyl of the album. I loved it. I've got all my dads old vinyls now, and he has a DSOTM '73 vinyl in very good condition, any ideas how much it's worth (I'd never sell it). Also, WYWH, Animals and Meddle all on vinyl. |

I just got chills from listening to WYWH, such beautiful lyrics. I always get chills during The Wall, especially Comfortably Numb, ABITW, Mother, and In the Flesh? |

If you're talking about Echoes.. the beginning sound. The 'ding'. It was a keyboard played through a Hammond Leslie speker.. which gave it the circling effect. (It sounds like it circles around you.. or something like that :P) Anyway, favorite song would have to be Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1-5) As for album, probally The Division Bell.. Even though some consider that to not be Pink Floyd at all.. I love it. Very relaxing album. |

the "ping" sound was not accidental. The sound (as someone else said) was a hammond organ through a leslie rotating speaker. But, Leslie Rotating speakers are not designed to connect to hammond organs, so Rick had to order custom made cables to connect them to get that "ping" sound. |
How many people get chills when they listen to The Wall?
Ony when I listen to it all the way through. I love how it all raps on with Outside the Wall. I love how the first 11 seconds of In The Flesh reflects the end of the album. Just the way it all comes together like that gives me chills. |
I've come to realize a very scary thing. I don't think I could get through a day without listening to some Floyd. One time I woke up in the middle of the night and was just craving to listen to SOYCD, but I realized WYWH was at my dad's house. I just laid there for like 10 minutes with my eyes wide open and I couldn't get to sleep. Finally I got on my computer and listened to it there (whole thing) then went back to bed and fell asleep right when my head hit the pillow.
It's like a drug. I've listened to them so much I thinnk it's burnt into my memory, because I can rememebr every note, evry rythym, every word, everything about every Floyd song I've heard. It's weird as hell when you hear it on the radio and if you sing along your voice syncs perfectly with Waters' or Gilmour's. Anyone else like that? |
Yeah I can't remember the last time I went through the day with out listening to them.

I don't know why, but that reminded me of a story that I heard about when Pink Floyd recorded the song. As everyone knows Syd happened to drop by the session. Roger was doing the vocals, and after finishing, he turned to Syd and asked him what he thought about the song. Syd told him that it sounded "old." |
