I'm watching the video of it from Leno now. It wasn't a great performance. :(
Other than Scott Weiland looking like Jack Skellington, I thought it was nice to see a rock band with some charisma for a change. Even if it meant taking a page from Mick Jagger/Iggy Pop's frontman playbook. |
Black Mountain
=w= Beck Lightning Bolt Birthday Party |
br3ead_man and tangyzizzle: it's me - deftoned! in new and improved form!
Depeche Mode - Violator - an old favourite. Best songs include; Enjoy the Silence, Blue Dress, Halo, Personal Jesus. Isis - Celesial: This shît will blow your mind. Taking you on a journey of intergalactic proportions. A very rewarding listen. Check out 'Celestial (the Tower)', 'Glisten' 'Cft'. Dillinger Escape Plan - 'Miss Machine': I've really started getting back into this again after seeing them recently. Check out 'Panasonic Youth', 'Sunshine the Werewolf', 'Phone Home'. Math metal at it's epileptic peak. Leftover Crack - Fück World Trade: Ska, black metal, punk-rawk; all you need. Check out 'Clear Channel' [Fück Off!] and 'Gang Control'. RIP Brandon (ex-drummer) Kid 606 - KillSoundBeforeSoundKillsYou: For fans of Aphex Twin, Chris Clarke etc. Completely crazy glitch/IDM. I've also been diggin abit of Bright Eyes after seein him support REM a week ago. |

Scott Weiland's been doing that for years. Pity Velvet Revolver are boring radio-rock. A total shame, considering Guns N' Roses are one of my favourite bands. In the media VR claim to be 'the most dangerous band in the world'; when it's all just watered down and sugar-coated. Disappointing...except when I met Slash when they came out. The record is poor, but live they were very good. [hint hint: Getting to see Slash and Duff...] |
Good to finally see you back here man. You should post in A&I more.
I've just been listening to Explosions In The Sky and Queens of the Stone Age with my friend. |
Black Mountain
I'm surprised they haven't gotten noticed more here. That happens to be one of my favorite releases of 2005... so far at least. I was listening to Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" last night. It's been such a long time since I last heard it, and I forgot how incredible it really is. |
Maybe I haven't heard enough or something, but what I have heard has been pretty bland and not quite interesting enough to warrant my cash. |
The album really works off on borrowing ideas and sounds, which can consequently cause it to come off as bland. I happen to find it to be an enjoyable listen though.

50 Cent
I like his new cd. I'm digging "Disco Inferno" and "Piggy Bank" |
Black Mountain's s/t is very good. asymm, I'm guessing you've only heard "Druganaut"?
Calexico's The Black Night and Feast of Wire right now. By golly they're fantastic. |

The Evens - The Evens
Fans of "The Argument" and "Instrument" would do well to peep this. |

Yeah, he seems to be every charismatic frontman between the 60's and the 80's. |
That's about the best description of Scott Weiland ever. Totally true.
On a vaguely related note, I saw a covers band last night, and they murdered Interstate Love Song so badly I think I'm gonna have trouble listening to it in the near future. Zep's Immigrant Song, too. Ah well, at least they cleared out the bar so I could get a drink without having to wait. |
Leonard Cohen's "Songs of Love and Hate"
Martin Grech - Open Heart Zoo
I remember I was going to ask if you'd review that, before Sputnik. My day's worth; Fantomas - Suspended Animation General Patton vs the X-ecutioners Beck - Mellow Gold |
Tool. I don't know why, I've never really cared for them that much. I like them more now though.

indie pop
I'm a little disappointed by the Evens. I expected more, but it's not a bad album.
I'm in a major indie-pop mood. Unrest, Fuck, Camera Obscura, etc. I just need some happy music.
You should definitely listen to bella! They are poppy and happy. Hope ya dig. I forgot their website by check them out at http://www.myspace.com/bella |
I remember I was going to ask if you'd review that, before Sputnik.
It's one of the albums I'm planning to review when I get the time. That, and The Man-Machine by Kraftwerk. However, 'when I get the time' could be months away. |
Okkervil River - "Black Sheep Boy"
I'm on my first run through it, but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's got heart, violence, aggression, and just an overall sincere passion. |

Thanks to Happymeal's love for it. |
the coheed and cambria dvd...
2 words... amazing and intense check it outttttt |
Dr Dre's The Chronic has received a spin this week. He brings the funk like Stevie Wonder, except he can see and slays way more tang. Some awesome humour on this record as well. I got bored today so I listened to Bill Hick's Revelations. **** that's funny. I'm not ashamed of my liking of metalcore; Poison the Well's the Opposite of December had a good spin today. Returning to some indie, I also listened to Broken Social Scene's You Forgot it In People and Trail of Dead's Source Tags and Codes. Good ****.
