I read a quote about fresher's week somewhere.

the first three days feel like three years and the next three years feel like three days.

I shook so many hands in the first week and I was bored of introducing myself by the end of the first night.

Pastorius 08-19-2007 04:38 PM

Yeah fresher's week is a total blast, just, put yourself out there, don't be too introverted or extroverted, have fun, drink lots and be prepared to meet a lot of people!

And Wish....best avatar/usertitle/location combo ever
Lol yes of sept. 22nd of august ill be at leeds festival :)

Freshers Fortnight for us, or so ive read.
I was gunna say =/

Never really took advantage of my freshers week (moving straight in with sophomores ftl)

Untitled 08-19-2007 04:48 PM

Im looking forward to freshers, my halls have about 1000 students in, the vast majority of them will be freshers :)

Surtr 08-19-2007 04:55 PM

Wish, what movie is your avatar from?

Pastorius 08-19-2007 04:57 PM

It's from Peep Show, not a movie.

Surf 08-19-2007 04:58 PM

Its peepshow.

edit: dammit beaten

I spent the first half of my freshers week with some guys I didn't really get along with that well, but then I met some other people, and it was great.

Pastorius 08-19-2007 05:09 PM

Yeah, important part of Uni is not to stick to the first people you meet.

I've actually ended up with people from where I lived before.

Untitled 08-19-2007 05:18 PM

I just checked the union website, defiantly two weeks,

Patrick O))) 08-19-2007 05:29 PM

Hopefully I'll never meet with some of the people I lived with last year ever again

Untitled 08-19-2007 05:45 PM

Thats not filling me with hope about the people i might be living with in leeds :-/

Pastorius 08-19-2007 05:48 PM

If you don't get on with them it's fine though. You can easily just use your room to sleep in and spend your time other places.

Patrick O))) 08-19-2007 05:48 PM

It seems that way, but I'm actually moving in this year with my best mate (who I also lived with last year - my heterosexual life partner, apparently) and a bunch of people we met in his first year, before I even started

So there's really no reason to worry :)

Untitled 08-19-2007 05:52 PM

I wont know anyone over there, except one person who im pretty good mates with, but ive not known her that long really, well ive known her since bout this time last year but only just started to be mates properly around April.

Patrick O))) 08-19-2007 05:55 PM

I better go to bed, music science exam tomorrow morning :( early start, gotta get to leeds for half 9 =[

in a bit

Untitled 08-20-2007 05:56 AM

Argh, just went to the dentist, just had to have fillings.

It took 3 injections to get my mouth numb, he kept doing it and i couldn't feel anything happening, so he did it again, then he just did the drilling and crap when it wasn't fully numb, so i could feel it, wasn't pleasant.

2muchket! 08-20-2007 06:28 AM

Ohhh those are always nasty experiences I had to have a tooth out last september. The strangest thing was that he was pulling my tooth out and I could feel it buy obviously there was no pain. He scraped my tooth twice as well with the drill that made me cringe alot.

Untitled 08-20-2007 06:32 AM

I dunno when i can eat, its been an hour now, and ive not ate today, or drank and im hungry and thirsty but dont know if i can drink :(

rocknrollstar5 08-20-2007 07:28 AM

i had a filling once without any anesthetic and that was not very nice at all

Patrick O))) 08-20-2007 07:43 AM

I had a filling in my back left teeth. BIG AND BLACK, I seemed to go under anesthetic pretty easily, it seems o.O only took one injection.

What I did feel was the pulling of the drill as the dentist ragged it round my mouth, and a sort've cold feeling where I was drilled

Grohlthegreat 08-20-2007 07:44 AM
Thank you, thank you :)

Yeah, Peep Show.
Peep Show is one of the best shows that has been on British TV in recent years.

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 08-20-2007 07:46 AM

Never had a filling.

Got all 4 wisdom teeth too.

Patrick O))) 08-20-2007 07:54 AM

Mine are still coming I think. Not long left, I think a couple are done :)

np: When Things Explode ~ Unkle

2muchket! 08-20-2007 07:59 AM

One of my wisdom teeth is starting to come through and it hurt like hell when it first pushed through the gum.

Grohlthegreat 08-20-2007 08:02 AM

Yeah, they've got the first 2 seaons (i think) on the ntl on demand thing so i might have to sit down and watch them all through sometime.

2muchket! 08-20-2007 08:03 AM

Peep Show is damn funny. I'm currently enjoying a load of old favourites like only fools and horse and Auf Wiedersehn Pet.

Pastorius 08-20-2007 08:07 AM

0 wisdom teeth, had them all taken out for my dental works.

Surtr 08-20-2007 08:24 AM

Oh christ **** I hope I don't get wisdom teeth <_<

Untitled 08-20-2007 08:35 AM

I know i wont get wisdom teeth ;)

Surf 08-20-2007 08:40 AM

I've got loads of fillings. And I need some more. Stupid soft drinks with their delicious tastes :(

On a better note.

My theremin came today. Cue: weeks of random noises until I figure out how to play it properly.

Surtr 08-20-2007 08:47 AM

Theremin?

*Wikipedia*

Edit: Oic

Dr Hooch 08-20-2007 09:00 AM

how much was your theremin surf

Surf 08-20-2007 09:15 AM

£249 :(

The shop didn't have any in stock so I've been waiting ages on backorder.

I should really get a proper amp, as it doesn't sound great running through the cheapy bass amp I have.

Surtr 08-20-2007 09:16 AM

Something tells me it won't sound that great for a while anyways ;) :p

Pastorius 08-20-2007 09:57 AM

Having your wisdom teeth taken out is not fun. Although you do get morphine, it's a limited supply, so when the nurses say "No more" you just have to put up with the pain. And you get a big bloated face for a week or two.

But on the plus side, you get a lot more acquainted with milkshake and soup

FVG27 08-20-2007 10:21 AM
Which course?

I was applying for either History or English and my predicted grades weren't really good enough to get in.

I got around it in Exeter by applying for a course loosely connected, then changing over on results day.

What's that like medicine or something?

Bristol was my lowest offer ABB

and I got

AAAA
Eeeeenglish and philosophy :)

My AS grades this year have been AAAB (and another B if yyou include general studies. But who does?) so I've got a shot I think at most unis. Depends on my personal statement for the tougher ones though.
Heheey!

Sure, sounds good (might even be one of my band's gigs >_> )

Zoe's moving down soon too. Her uni don't start for a fortnight after she does, so if it's sometime then I'm sure she'll be glad of the distraction :P plus it might be a bit less awkward, what with another girly girl n all =]
Ha yeah that would be wicked :) we shall see we shall see.

Ouchies :( I've had 5 teeth out altogether. 4 molars and a canine. Hurts like hell when they don't numb it completely :-/

I think as long as your personal statement isn't genuinely bad you'll be fine. Cambridge just use it as an interview prompt and most unis will just be looking to see that you're a well balanced person.

Surf 08-20-2007 10:46 AM

My personal statement was dire. I wrote one in rhyming couplets for the hell of it. And it was probably better than my actual one.

Are you carrying on all four (proper) subjects? If so, with those grades you should be able to get in most places.

Yeah I am. English, philosophy, art and drama (that's what I got my B in). I mean they only really care about 3 (which I'm hoping are gonna be As) but I'm hoping a 4th could sway a place for me.

I can certaintly say it doesn't do you any harm, but physics isn't hard to get into anyway.

Serves you right for trying to take an art, anyway. ;)
