Depends, if its a really nice hardcover with glossy pages, a lot of color, and perhaps a CD/DVD included, it could get pricey for the manufacturer. However, they make obscene amounts of money by simply creating new editions by only switching around a few paragraphs or adding a few sentences that you [U]have to buy[/U].

amount of color is a big factor in the amount of money the book will cost.

i ordered a book off amazon and i got the package but it was empty inside and i emailed the dude and was like wtf and then he was like sorry bro and resent it and now i am waiting for it to come in the mail
