Ah, no, I quoted the wrong one, I meant Ray Manzarek
...how did he create Punk?

:)

BludgeonySteve 09-15-2005 09:38 PM

Good ol' questioning badmoon.

The Doors were a very contriversial band for the time. Odd and sometimes vulgar lyrics, defying authority and the law and all of that. They were one of the first well known bands with a few of the characteristics of Punk bands. So I guess they helped Punk along. So they didn't create it or even start the movement, they were to Punk as Cream was to Metal. Kind of the beginning of the beginning.

Woo, got it done.
Gah you have 126 albums that are five stars.

I have 5.

magicbus 09-15-2005 10:13 PM

I really want to buy Rock and Roll Circus now. That video was very cool. I heard the rest of the movie is really good until Yoko Ono comes in.

EDIT: Oops that was the Beatles thread.
And Schyma....you described me as a blonde haired stoner. What makes you think I have blonde hair? You're not calling me dumb are you? (I have extremely brown hair)
You dumb? No no no, I think you're one of more intelligent regs around here. Sorry if that came out the wrong way. To tell you the truth I have no clue why I have pictured some of you the way I did. I mean what really makes me think JonG is short or Pink Freud have a big nose? Truth is I don't know really.
No no no, Stephen Davis's biography on Jim Morrison is the way to go, "No one Gets out Alive" has to many rumours in it, I think Stephen Davis's is called Life.Death.Legend. get that instead.
I agree, Life.Death.Legend. is the way to go for Morrison bios.
The Doors were a very contriversial band for the time. Kind of the beginning of the beginning.
It's not that their sound was Punk really it was their attitude. Jim Morrison was the first to have that "I don't give a **** about a **** thing!" kind of attitude that punks have (did anyone hear abou his Ed S. set?) and the way he defyed authority on stage by starting riots. He was a huge inspiration for the likes of Iggy Pop and many others aswell. He did screw Nico ALOT too. :p

Thickasabrick: I think Morrison Hotel is WWWAAAYY better. I couldn't even begin to compare songs like "Roadfouse Blues", "Waiting for the Sun", "Peace Frog", "Indian Summer" or "Maggie M' Gill" to the likes of the Soft Parade. I don't even listin to the Soft Parade anymore. (Although "Soft Parade" is fun to listin to sometimes) I just can't take it it's just so unlike the Doors to be using string instruments and it's so **** cheesy I can't stand it anymore. It was more of a Robby effort than a Jim one. It made Jim so pissed he decided to not share the songwritting credit with him because he thought they sold out so bad.

PinkFreud 09-16-2005 12:12 AM

holy ****. i almost died tonight. i took some pill that a kid gave me up here. snerf? like herbal ecstasy or something. i just spent about 4 hours hunched over a toilet puking what little food i had in my stomach out.

i hate college and all the opportunities presented.

Leper 09-16-2005 12:18 AM

I think the use of strings was more of an evolution in the Doors music than selling out. Afterall, the Doors were all about experimentation. IMO had the Doors not at least TRIED things such as strings in their music, and other experimental elements, their music wouldn't be as timeless as it is, and they wouldn't be as heavily respected today.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-16-2005 12:19 AM

It was more about a "making more money" move than it was anything else. (IMO)

Snurfs? ****, those things are cheap here. I'm glad I haven't decided to take any and I won't after hearing about the expirence you just had. Although I do think I will take ecstasy in the very near future. :-/

Today maybe.

Ya that could be true, but hey it's all good.

Be sure to drink lots of water. I knew some guy who used to come into work sometimes on ecstasy, he always had a bottle of water in his hand.

PinkFreud 09-16-2005 12:25 AM

Buddy Guy's coming out with a new album. This site features a preveiw. First song sounds like so far like Hendrix + Santana. :amaze:

NP: Lay Lady Lay - Buddy Guy (this song isn't as good :-/ )

Walrus Gumboot 09-16-2005 07:07 AM
i didnt get it
What's your e-mail again?

Schyma- I wouldn't do extasy just because its supposed to make you depressed for 2 weeks because it dumps two weeks worth of seratonin all at once when you take it

Badmoon- I saw some documentary when Ray was talking about Punk, I think he may have produced some albums, or did something with a record label or the like
I remember in the interview he was saying something about how this punk stuff was alot like what the Doors were doing in the 60's, rebelling and such, so he wanted to be a part of it

Flaminghotchino 09-16-2005 07:09 AM

If your ever going to try herbal ecstacy..I reccomend trip2night..It may not be quite as powerful as some other forms (but I also have always done a low dosage) but it makes you feel great and I've never had a bad expierence with it.

It's great trip when you smoke some good green with it too.

New Buddy Guy, eh? Nice!

So I was reading an article about Santana, and he said that people claimed that he is a sell out because he has done songs with all these pop stars who aren't that respected. Santana says he just enjoys playing with anybody, but I guess other people feel that he is straying away from his rock roots. What do you guys think?

That preview on Buddy Guy's website is pretty awesome. Sounds like a good album.

PinkFreud 09-16-2005 11:51 AM

i'm alive!

ive heard mixed things about the new buddy guy cd. its all covers right? i'll probably still pick it up.

Glad to hear it. :)

Why does no-one talk about Odessey & Oracle by the Zombies? This album is amazing and yet I still don't see hardly anyone giving it attention. Great vocals, great hamonies, great piano/keyboard how come this isn't bigger around here? It's right up there with Forever Changes and Magical Mystery Tour! If you don't have it I suggest you request this album now!

Edit: It just so happens to be a featured album in sputnik too. :D

Good to see another Santana fan. I don't really think he sold out, although I haven't heard many of his colaberations.
