Yeah, Thanksgiving will be fun. I don't have much time for a new hobby though, between school, friends, the gf, the novel, and the guitar. :p
I'm gonna go see if I can make it up to her. See ya guys.
Good luck with that. Women are always more volatile than high explosives. Just make sure you stay cool. More than likely, she'll forgive you. |
Hahaha, wow. That was a long time ago :p /looks at 20000th post thread :upset:
I remember it though. Good times. I remember how cool we all thought we were and such too :p NP: Therapy? :-* Jelle
That clan thing we made lasted a long time. Then I made a thread about it and got owned all the way to Mars. :p
Good luck with that. Women are always more volatile than high explosives. Just make sure you stay cool.
Even guitar is stressing me out, because my teacher is making me learn all my dominant chord arpeggios so I can solo over blues and jazz changes, and it's the most thinking I've had to do while soloing in a REALLY long time.
And I'm still here piecing together how to properly use modes. I know there's something obvious that I'm not getting, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. Incidentally, if you haven't looked into Blackmore's Night, I advise you to. This kind of stuff is up your alley. I just got into them lately. |
I can't believe I got 19th in that. There's no way I'm getting anywhere near that high this time around. I hardly post anywhere other than the CR thread, not even in here that much.

It's all part of life with a penis. We just have to bear our crosses. |

Oh man, that's unbelievably hard... I'm still attempting to get all the scale changes down right...:upset: Just started with it a year or so ago...it's just now starting to make headway. NP - My Dying Bride - Cry Of Mankind Man, this completely blows away Songs Of Darkness era MDB. I somehow have to come up with lyrics for my band's doom metal song...I'm horrid at any type of poetry. Hopefully, this band will spark my imagination. |

The doomiest song I ever wrote was for my as-of-yet unfinished rock opera about Vlad Dracula. I just sort of pictured Gothic architecture, and the rest came to me naturally. What other sources have you looked to for inspiration? |
Absolutely none. I don't do lyrics...I'm a horrible lyricist.
I write music instead... The title of the song is "The Downfall Of Ages", simply because I thought that sounded good. Other than that, I got nothing. :upset: |
What sort of sense do you predominantly think with? I'm a very visual person, myself, so a lot of my writing is inspired by images and is based on visuals.

I'm all about touch. It's the only sense that is impossible to deceive. It's more instantaneous too. |

Steerpike: Blackmore's Night is indeed quite wonderful. I still have not picked up a CD, though, which is bad.
Anybody here a fan of Renaissance? Great stuff, that. Nightwish cum folk, and from the '70s too (of course).
Note to self: Don't headbang near tables.
One time I headbanged near my dresser cabinet and smashed my forehead on the edge. It sucked so much. Now I'm terrified that someday I'll break my skull open doing that. |

NP: Burzum - "Dot Som En Gang Var"
I made that mistake once. At dinner. In front of my friends. When the pretty colors left my eyes, the headache and blush started to set in. Before I forget, my guitar teacher recently introduced me to the music of New York guitarist Ben Mondel. I think you might like this guy. He's a virtuoso with the most unique musical message I've heard in an acoustic player. |

I don't actually care. If they look at me funny, I give them a look like, "Can you be helped?" |
I'd like to say I do that.. but I just care too much about my image. :p
|
The less you care, the better you'll feel.
After a near mental breakdown over the summer, I just told myself to stop giving a crap about other people's perception of me, because it was onl contributing to my stress level. It took me a while to break out of those old habits, but I gotta say... it was liberating to remove what other people thought from the equation. |
I've been slowly working that sort of thing out too, and I have to second that the better you get at it the better you feel about yourself.
I have a hard time getting into recorded metal enough to headbang. Live metal is a passion of mine, but as far as albums go I tend more towards non metal a lot of the time. |

Isn't that the truth. Funny thing is, other people start to notice it too. Last weekend, I got on the shuttle to stop at the mall outside campus (I was going to grab dinner at Ruby Tuesday's and buy some sweets for my family for Thanksgiving since the chocolate store was having a sale). Anyway, this girl sitting in the row in front of me glanced back at me a couple times, and asked where I was going. When she found out we were going to the same place, she changed the time of her pick-up to match mine. The whole ride there, she kept glancing back at me while I was plugged into my headphones listening to Edguy. I would have hit on her, but I could smell cigarette smoke on her and she looked dangerously thin. Both kind of a huge turn-off. Anyway, point is that when you stop caring what other people think about you, they start to care more what you think about them. Funny how that works. |
I don't know.. if you don't care what people think of you, you might become a hippie.
Seriously though, that's good in theory, but it has its problems. Many of the things we work towards are based on prestige and outward appearance. You need community service hours in high school because society does have an opinion of you, and if you're seen as a person who doesn't care, you'll be ostracized. It's hard to explain what I'm getting at, but people's opinions shape your outward image (and therefore, how people interact with you). |
I'll trade you all the non-smoker girls I find for all the smoker girls you find.
Toaster - of course there are limits and contexts to what we're saying. People won't like you if you appear to not care about anything, but that's not what we're getting at. It's a matter of being comfortable with yourself, and being comfortable with being able to pass off doing silly things in front of others sometimes. |

I have. It's really embarassing and kind of makes you feel strange. But I do it anyways. NP: Godspeed You Black Emperor! - "Moya" |

There are still certain rules we're all expected to play by. That's all part of life. What I am saying is that I'm not going to be just another Milquetoast that allows the anonymous masses to dictate his actions and the core of his being. I know what I want, who I am. I'm not hurting anyone or causing any real damage in the process. If somebody can't deal with that, fuck 'em. The time I spend stressing out trying to stretch myself out thin and fit into everyone's perfect reality ideals could be better spent doing something with actual value. |
Point taken. That's all true. I think a lot of people use that as a barrier sort of. Like, someone may act really strange, and say "I don't care what you think about that" (ie. weird penis piercings), but it's just a false front. Like they can't handle what their actual personality is, so they invent a really weird, random person to be in large groups of people.
 I suck at saying what I mean. |
- Hey guys, let's all go look at the new artist series xizoesira started!
- Yeah, xizoesira, that sounds like a great idea! |
No, I get it. That's why I dislike people taking things to extremes. Very few of them are ever really sincere about it. Most of them are just going through a weird phase where they'll try any crazy shit they can think of trying to find an identity. Granted, they have more balls than others of that ilk. But it still bugs me how far some people go trying to be more extreme than the next guy to make a point.
Don't get me wrong, there are people who just enjoy that sort of thing. Like the Goths who dress up as vampires and hang out on weekends at New York's Court of Lazarus club. I don't know why they enjoy that particular brand of pageantry, but it works for them. The rest of their lives are about as mundane as everyone else's, so it's not like they actually believe they're real vampires. They're just people who really like Halloween and things which are vampire-related. Whatever floats your boat. |
Way to describe me, sort of :( (not the piercings, but the false front and such) Or at least I used to be like that, because I felt like I had to to keep my friends. And then I stopped being like that, and lost most of my friends. But now I have different friends and I like them better so eh. Of course I wasn't some wierd, random person. But I wasn't myself either. But I think a lot of people aren't comfortable enough with themselves to act like, well, themselves, as teens. |

'Tis quite embarassing :upset: |
I headbang to the music on my speakers, so it's not so embarrassing. Being caught airguitaring is more so.
