fuck yeah chainsaw samples

sounds a lot like Ministry

Drugstep 07-18-2011 05:40 AM

first attempt to listen to skinny puppy i downloaded a corrupted mp3 and it was like a regular EBM song that just glitched into deafening noise. naturally i assumed at first that skinny puppy was some sort of avant noise torture

downloading songs was a fucking hassle in the p2p days

Haz 07-18-2011 05:45 AM

yeah it was all kinds of bullshit

I remember I was so proud of my 250 song collection that filled up my harddrive and my Neon Genesis Evangelion winamp skin

Aakon_Keetreh 07-18-2011 12:55 PM

Scorpion Violente is awesome
what the fuck is EAI

east asian improvisational music?
might as well be
but it stands for 'lectroacoustic improv
which is stupid
because half of it isn't electroacoustic, more like cheap electronics/noisemakers that identify with the aesthetic

fenixfunk5 07-19-2011 01:57 AM

do u like otomo yoshihide

Bitchfork 07-19-2011 02:02 AM

sometimes. a lot of his shit pisses me off and a lot of it i like. i don't touch his solo projects though. multiple otomo is really nice though

why is youtube so gay

was watching part of the Boyd Rice documentary Iconoclast yesterday, entertaining stuff. seems he was pretty infamous amongst his local community for his high school stunts and worked at taco bell and shit, probably amongst the trashiest filmmaking i've ever seen

Drugstep 07-26-2011 07:45 PM

you showed me something on youtube about him working at taco bell and making up menu items that were hard to pronounce

man and i thought i do crazy stuff

Haz 07-26-2011 07:49 PM

I don't think I did, i've never heard of that before.

he talks at length about tiki bars, 50's TV shows that deal with the occult and dadaism expanding his mind it's pretty lulzy

he looks so old and fat sitting in the tiki booth

Drugstep 07-26-2011 07:51 PM

I'd like to have a documentary about me some day , I think it'd be deeply entertaining

i could go on at length about how i was already in college the first time i tried a peanut butter and jelly sandwich

emmy 07-26-2011 08:10 PM

lol

i like how the fact that he made this huge cross in woodshop and the teacher thought he was making a little one. Every time the teacher would walk by he would say, i thought it was a little cross. repeatedly

then he had it in his room and it was like an obstacle and his life would revolve around it lol

Haz 07-26-2011 11:46 PM

yeah

his glam rock stage was something I found surprising, he was into David Bowie and liked dressing up like the New York Dolls and shit

possibly the worst fashion period music has ever seen

Aakon_Keetreh 07-26-2011 11:52 PM

yeah haha. hes a cool dude though. i love the ending live version of people. he changes all the lyrics. its gr8

Merzbox FLAC, how big is that

20.47 GB according to waffles

by Kieran McCarthy

It is common for critics to resort to hyperbole when outlining the salient traits of mid-level artists. By overstating their noteworthy characteristics, one can draw attention to even minor or tepid figures, and make them seem far larger than they actually are. In the case of Merzbow's release, the Merzbox, this could not happen. No matter how overblown, no matter how shameless or self-indulgent the criticism, it is not enough. No matter how rabid or scathing the review, it pales in comparison to the art itself. The Merzbox defies simple description, and so it defies traditional notions of criticism. One cannot exaggerate the ridiculous, the obscene, and the mindblowingly abrasive nature of the Merzbox. With 50 CDs and over 40 hours of unapologetic sound experimentation, Masami Akita demands a response that goes above and beyond the normal protocol. No number of stars could summarize the emotions that well up when listening to the incessant yelps, interminable screeches, and directionless feedback of the Merzbox for days on end. Fundamental descriptors such as "good" and "bad" don't capture the spirit of the endeavor any more than a slide rule could be used to measure the size of the universe. Akita's audacity is unparalleled, and the existence of this most brazen of box sets raises many questions. Does Akita honestly believe that these two full days of unedited noodling are worth a serious listen? Is he toying with gullible listeners? Is the ultimate conclusion he wants us to reach that, in the end, after enough time, all music sounds like the same old processed crap? It will never be possible to understand his intentions. When all is said and done, though, the Merzbox belongs in Ripley's Believe It or Not, and not in your record collection

I think Jon's work has potential and at times is even superb but he should investigate circuit bending and seeking more analog means of making noise cause it seems to be where it is at
