Bah, i'm a useless university student.

I know I am, i don't try and I don't take it too seriously.

I still hate how everyone just goes to Uni for a better job.
I like learning, that's why I'm there.
Screw testing my ass.

The Brad 10-28-2006 02:42 AM

I am pretty much in PA's shoes, but sans doctorate path.

Pluperfect_Arson 10-28-2006 02:44 AM

I was going to go to school to major in music, but then I looked at the possibilities of that and wondered.

Then I opted to become a doctor. I just need to somehow rid myself of my fear of needles. I love that I can deal with amputations, squirting blood, falling out guts, but I can't deal with the sight of a needle.

I haven't decided what field I would like to go into, though, and I haven't decided if I am going to become a specialist or not, which I probably will be.

What are you majoring in?

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 02:46 AM

Absolutely nothing.

101 courses ftw. I'm really there to soak up as much knowledge as I can.
Then maybe decide what I want to do with my life.

The Brad 10-28-2006 02:47 AM

Art.
<Nelson>Ha-ha</Nelson>
I currently have an emphasis on graphic design, but I am looking to break over into fine art. So I am thinking about taking a sabbatical to just shack up in my room for a semester and just paint, plaint, paint. Then visit museums and **** for inspiration (that's where the bike and roadtrip come in)

Pluperfect_Arson 10-28-2006 02:47 AM

EDIT: To Clown

Are you a freshman?

Screwing around the first year to decide what you want to do is where it is at.

What you want to do is take classes that you are interested, classes that you think you would find interesting, and then a class that you wouldn't ever think of taking just for the hell of it.

Then, if your workload turns out to be too great in one of the classes that you actually want, you can drop the "for fun" class. :p

In my opinion, I just think majoring in art would be entirely pointless. No offence, though.

It just seems like one of those degrees that you can earn because you love, love, love what you are doing, but, once you make it outside of school, it just has no real application unless you are going to become a gallery moderator or something of the sort.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 02:52 AM

Yeah I'm a freshy.

That's my main plan, once the program I'm in is done (Computer related: programming, photoshop) I'll be taking alot of 101 courses. I.E. my second year.

This year my electives have been, crim101, psych101, the third one i'm still deciding.

In reality, if my job could get me through the rest of my life, i'd be happy.

Just go to school to learn.
I like learning, just not the fact that you NEED to be tested on it.
Pretty much bullshit.

The Brad 10-28-2006 02:52 AM

Graphic design is huge, but I can see the point of fine art being in vain. It would probably be some sort of double major. Two or three arts and English or something.

I wouldn't mind teaching, but I do want to try being a freelance artist once.

The testing signifies the teacher that you have actually retained the knowledge that you are taught; therefore, you are proving to the teacher that your brain is a sponge, or you just study quite a bit. :p

Yeah, I understand that graphic design is huge. I wanted to do that for a while, but then dropped the entire idea.

Doing things like painting, though, is not.

I thought about teaching, but, if I taught anything, it would be music, and I would want to do it at a uni level. I can't stand kids in high school and lower.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 02:56 AM

Yeah graphic design is probably the fastest growing profession around.

Every company needs a webpage, its a standard now.
Can the current employees make it? Nope.
So they hire someone to do easy work and get paid well for it.

The Brad 10-28-2006 02:59 AM

The problem with the field is you have a bunch of n00bs occupying space because they think it's easy, so there is little room for those with the drive, etc.

Painting would be a hard dollar to turn, but I think it's something you could be proud of doing at the end of the day.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 03:00 AM

My studying habits include 2 days before or later. I procrastonate projects and assignment untill the last minute.

Ex: I have a term paper due on tuesday, havn't started it yet. ^_^

As with any art, your final product should always make you proud of your accomplishments.

I'm not going into interactive design, I lack the drive for that work.
I hate thinking about the future of my life. Brings too much pressure.
Perhaps from my parents. I'm a pretty smart guy, I'm just exceptionally lazy.
My parents know this and still push me. Perhaps the only reason why I'm still in school.

Pluperfect_Arson 10-28-2006 03:06 AM

Honestly, when I think about my future and the direction it could possibly go, it scares me more than anything.

The Brad 10-28-2006 03:07 AM

Yeah, it's scary ****.

Pluperfect_Arson 10-28-2006 03:09 AM

It is just that I want to be well off when it is time for me to settle down, buy a house, become married, have kids, etc.

I don't want to be struggling all the time.

I think--out of everything in the future--that is what scares me the most. Struggling, ultimately, just sucks. :(
Honestly, when I think about my future and the direction it could possibly go, it scares me more than anything.
Exactly.
The thought churns my stomach.

Everyone at works asks me what I want to do with my life.
I always just roll my eyes and say that I don't know.

I need another beer.
YAY for after work brewskies. :chug:

The Brad 10-28-2006 03:11 AM

I dunno, you don't need much to get by imo.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 03:13 AM

You don't need much to get by.

But I think he has the idea of the stereotypical family setting.

House, kids, wife, suburb, etc.

Wich is kinda where I want my life to head.

More like the idea of a multi-billion dollar house placed on the middle of 25 acres with its own private driveway. :p

Add that with my millions of nicely tuned cars, and that is going to cost me a bunch of money.

Damn kids and wife can earn their own money.

The Brad 10-28-2006 03:17 AM

Hahaha, you sound just like my friend. He wants a trophy wife and a birthing wife.

Dream on man.

I wish I had a geenie.
my 3 wishes:
infinite money
boost in self confidence
mind that is able to absorb and remember what ever comes at it(like school)

Pluperfect_Arson 10-28-2006 03:19 AM

I am having one wife for everything.

There is going to be the driving wife that goes everywhere with me, the grocery shopping wife, the nanny wife, the birthing wife, the wife that just looks nice, which would, essentially, because the driving wife; then there is the cooking wife, etc.

Polygamy ftw!

The Brad 10-28-2006 03:21 AM

Nothing a little hard work can't solve. That is why you become a doctor and save. By the time I finish up my doctorate, I should be about 33, and I will--more than likely--be a bachelor.

Boost your own self-confidence! It isn't hard. :p

Also, I have found that if you just focus on only what the teacher has to say, and you ignore all the other kids, you have a better chance of retaining the information. Participate in class as much as possible as well.

I participate in class, but I give smart *** answers to everything. Granted, they are right, but the extra comments aren't usually needed. :p

The Brad 10-28-2006 03:23 AM

I should call someone to inspect it, I could sell my car, buy that and my bike. ;)
Cha-ching.
