well knowing general voicings are key to be able to understand how it works as well as a multi track or something like that to be able to hear it yourself

but i broke it down like that when other people like joe pass consider it ii V I (the big progression in jazz music in general)

typical subs for again lets take Ab

V chords (ii is like an expansion almost on this, to create more movement)

ii is Bbm7 (Bb Db F Ab), the most common sub being probably the IV or DbM7 (Db F Ab C), because this just extends it to the ninth which is a pretty safe tone most of the time when comping for other people in a tune

the reason you dont have to play still Bb in this instance is because if that's the chord everyone's on, and your bass player is worth a fuck, then its already being played by the bass (not enough horn players listen to the bass for the chord progression, or thats what ive dealt with but whatever), so you can keep the key tones (3rd and 7th of Bb -- Db and Ab) while adding extensions (so C here from the DbM7)

for V probably the most common is the viib5 (cant do the half dim symbol whatever), because of the same logic above (youre just adding the 9th, F, to the V chord, Eb7 or Eb G Bb Db)

you kind of need to know more basic stuff first, not that im sayin you dont but if you dont get this it might be helpful to check out those music theory sites everyone goes to on here to BULK UP on that music theory or whatever

My best friend has become an attention whore and has let an emo boyfriend ruin her life. She refuses to let anyone help.

I'm about to give up.

The_Mop 06-28-2006 01:56 PM

I used to know this guy who was PURELY into brutal death metal. He wouldn't listen to it if it wasn't death metal, and seriously wouldn't even CONSIDER anything else.

But, I don't really see that much of a problem with people playing a bit of jazzy blues along with slayer, it at least shows a bit of diversity, althought superficial. It kinda shows a bit of interest in the style. Still, like you say Eggo, it is a bit annoying if it's only just superficial to try and pretend to be diverse.

I've kinda moved away from metal a bit more into prog and fusion after being into death metal for a while, partially because there's way more diversity in those genres.
should have asked the man for a back stage pass :naughty:

Speaking of backstage passes, when i saw Symphony X, and got them to sign my CD booklet, apparently they were all staring at my girl. I guess when you go to a show called GIGANTOUR, and see a bunch of nasty guys in all black, a fair dame looks pretty appealing...

anywho, my girl was trying to say that she could go back stage. She wanted me to bet her 100 bucks that she could allow her to go back stage. I was like "wait.... i give you 100 bucks, and you go back stage? Does that mean i can come too?" She explained to me the impossibility of the situation. I told her there was nothing in it for me
I asked him for one of those civil agreement thingys.

Then I'd get all the backstage passes I want :)

did you know that his guitarist is actually incredible?

i'm only talking about the false pretenders

and it's pretty obvious when that is the case when they use terms like "jazzy blues"

AG 06-28-2006 02:00 PM

Has anyone ever typed 'slutnik music' or 'spunknik music'?

I have :(

Stfu ego, I love jazzyblues.

Just bringing it to the next page. :thumb:

Anyways, update on my guitar project.

I told my mom her paying money for me not to use that guitar is dumb, and she offered to pay more, so I think I'll get a used guitar on eBay, and kick in a bit of money, and use it or one of my guitars I own already for the project. If she lets me that is, she is trying to say she'll only help pay if it's parts, dunno for sure yet.

kurrpt 06-28-2006 02:01 PM

im not even sure what "jazzy blues" is

slutnik....nope. I just went into there for like the 3rd time today

Meatplow 06-28-2006 02:01 PM

Diversity is one of the greatest things about the guitar.

i find it impossible to believe that any teenager can consider their life ruined. In the scheme of things, the person hasn't even begun to live, let alone ruin a life. Like you said, attension grabby whore.

I would recommend myspace. I'm sure she'll find acceptance there

Nihongo 06-28-2006 02:09 PM

can you say REBOUND :naughty:

for these types of problems, theres not much you can really do besides assure the person that they are young, and will move on in time.

:shrugs: doesnt know either.

joas 06-28-2006 02:12 PM

Nah it wouldnt work. It is still basically stoping the power getting the power tubes cooking (because its in the loop and not after amplification). It may give you better pre-amp saturation, but I doubt it will sound that different. Just save for a power attenator (sp?wtf?idk).

Abu-Abu 06-28-2006 02:25 PM

Aren't those like $300?

Link me to a good one.

/me was hoping this could be a cheap solution

kurrpt 06-28-2006 02:26 PM

yea, a good one anyway. I just use ear plugs. I can deal with the 8 dollar fee
