waters lyrics were eccelent but gilmours voice is much better
Yeah I like a lot of the takes the guitarist does on the songs on the album. I always felt the sign of a good guitarist was not only to write good songs, but how they improv on others.
And again as for the whole "what genre is Floyd" don't try to find one, because at some point or another they have preformed almost every genre, to lable them a certian genre is like calling the Beatles a pop band.
Well the guitarist really doesnt do much for me. What I really liked about soem of the stuff he did was adding in the back up singers. They give "Welcome to the Machine" a whole different feel. |

Well I feel that he did a good enough job at recapturing Gilmour's sound, with out sounding like a Gilmour imitation. I do miss Gilmour don't get me wrong, Comfortably Numb off Pulse is a god compared to Comfortably Numb on In The Flesh. I would have been really dissopointed with the album if it had been just like the stuido, or just like another live album from Pink Floyd. |
Live albums is how i judge my bands...Rush wouldve easily been my favorite band if there concerts werent the same as there studio, but I really need to get Pulse. I hear nothing but good about it...though I might get Ummagumma next.
How do you pronounce Ummagumma anyway? I feel embarressed saying it all the time... |

I can't remember the last time I listend to Dark Side of the Moon or the Wall, in its studio recording, its always been Pulse and Is There Anybody Out There |
Thanks Pig...you da man :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I just played DSOTM about an hour ago...but just the hard songs. I was thinking of gettin an SG with the money i got, but i can live with my guitar and its terrible feedback when attempting gilmours tone. My Compressor pedal alone is worth more then my guitar. Disgust. Yeah, i might buy ummagumma offline. Are their any sites similar to amazon, but will let me use paypal? I cant withdraw money from there for a month :upset: |
Yea that's how you pronounce it, and I highly recommend getting the album.
|
I was having a listen to pulse. Has anyone noticed the similarities between Gilmours and Waters voices.

I used to think they were pretty similar too back in the day, but now I can easily tell the difference. Also some DSotM songs that Roger sang on, also had David singing the harmony(which may confuse some people when matching the voice to the person). |
Actually I was listening to those songs to try tell the difference so there you go, that was my problem. I suppose I would definatly notice if Gilmour sang San Tropez or something.
|
Yeah I really missed Gilmour's vocals on Wish You Were Here on In The Flesh
|
I think they sound very similiar on the Wall as well. I can usually tell who it is but they sound alike. No complaining though because both Roger and David have good voices. (IMO) THey fit the songs well.
|
Rogers usually has a few different "voices" he can do. Gilmour has a more constant singing voice. Sometime's Rogers has like a desperate sounding yell, sometimes more of a talk/whisper, or sometimes just his 'normal' singing voice.

Good morning everybody. Finished two of the AP's, so looks like I'm back for now. |

I still have my AP Stat and AP History tests to take.
/is avoiding studying to listen to Saucerful of Secrets |
What can be really confusing about Echoes is that Dave and Rick switch parts (Rick sings the hig octaves sometimes, sometimes Gilmour does)

Hey fav song and album?
Favourite Song: In The Flesh Favourite Album: Tie Between DSOTM and Animals |
I'm officially convinced that Time has one of the most kick ass solos ever. Just the way the "ooooh aaaah's" match the solo is amazing.

I was actually just going to mention that before i read your post. Listened to it last night and i thought to myself "wow no one ever really mentions this solo imparticular but it really does kick ***." favourite album: Wish you were here Favourite song: that's tough...btw. Mother and Shine on you crazy diamond. |
Album- Right now, I'd say Animals. I also like WWYH a lot.
Song(s)- Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Dogs, Echoes, and any other 17+ minute songs. :p Breathe in the Air, and Have a Cigar. I think that Have a Cigar has the coolest bass + guitar combo. It's pretty sweet. |
I, as well as probably everyone else who posts in this thread, absolutely love the bass line to Money.
