Yes I am excited. We might get to end up playing Rhaposody's Dawn of Victory of school. See I am the only one at school who really likes metal other than the greats and I have this mate at school who is possible the funniest guy you could meet. And he has an awesome voice not just singing but at imatating voices. He was into a little bit of thrash etc (just the greats and some Morbid Angel and Vader etc) back in the day and really likes alot of metal and rock etc. He is often really good to give music because he will really like anything good in metal that I show him because in his words as long as the tunes are kicking he is happy. Well I showed him Rhapsody as a joke and he pissed pants laughing at how cheesy they were but true to his spirit just enjoyed the cheese (unlike other fag*ots) and said the tunes were rocking. I didn't think I had made a power convert but surley guy who enjoyed for a laugh and a good time pretending to fight dragons. Then he turned to me last night and let out the best Rhapsody impression I have ever heard! He was power metal in that moment \m/ He said we should play some for some good fun. We will dress up and rock out hahaha. (sorry if this story was pointless I was just excited that we might play some great metal!)

JausmetalJ 02-11-2006 12:53 AM

Haha, that would be really cool to play a rhapsody song :p

If only I could sing :/

Stoic 02-11-2006 05:28 AM

well done dommie \m/ :D

Stormrider 02-11-2006 06:59 AM
Savage Circus sound exactly like early Blind Guardian. Damn, even the vocalist sounds exactly like Hansi. Excuse me but I really dont see the point in this band. :(
People in the BG forum seem to be loving it :

Stoic 02-11-2006 08:21 AM

Not only people in the BG forum. Still, it's their opinion. I'm with what Timmy said.

Stormrider 02-11-2006 09:17 AM

Yeah, I know. I just wanted you to read that...for some reason.

Steerpike 02-11-2006 09:27 AM

Are you on the mailing list for Slough Feg yet? They're sort of power metal.
I missed that post.
Its ok. I Hope I get it soon. I'll have lots of things to check out.

Steerpike 02-11-2006 11:24 AM

While I'm thinking of it, anybody seen the video to Edguy's Superheroes yet? It makes no sense, but that just makes it even better.

Deth 02-11-2006 01:54 PM

I'll watch that video now and edit my thoughts in soon.

OMG, that video totally owns. I really don't have any other thoughts about it except it's freaking awesome.

Thor 02-11-2006 02:13 PM

Power metal trading, anyone? :)

I love the running gag with Tobi chasing the one bunny girl around with a giant butterfly net.

Stoic 02-11-2006 05:53 PM

I'm terribly sorry -I dont mean to offend you Alex- but this is an awful poppy video and song. Such a shame because Tobias's voice is at its best. :(

Steerpike 02-11-2006 06:42 PM

Can't please everybody.

Deth 02-11-2006 08:59 PM

I do have to say though, I was disappointed with the song.

Shattered_Future 02-11-2006 09:40 PM

Urgh, after hearing the greatness that is Mandrake, this let me down...

It's catchy, but it's not Edguy at all.

Video was...what the crap was that? :amaze:

Good looking bunnies though.

Steerpike 02-11-2006 09:45 PM

Man, I feel lonely. I really like that song.

I certainly don't think Rocket Ride (what I've heard of it anyway) is as good Hellfire Club in terms of their new approach, but it's still a lot better than the crap being shoved down my throat my radio and TV lately.

Personally, I see it as refreshing to have a metal band with such an off-kilter sense of humor. To say that Superheroes is "not Edguy at all" is, to me, unfair. You still hear their signature sound and techniques, and they still wear their influences on their sleeves like they always have.

IheartSP 02-11-2006 09:51 PM

Steerpike in the request music thread I asked for some Savatage and idk if you go in there but I figure it's appropriate to ask here too and i know your a big fan. I want a song that has that hard edge but is also symphonic like Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the same time, if such a thing does exist. From the one songs I've heard (The Price You Pay) they've got that heavy metal sound, but I hear no keyboard in it, and as far as I know Jon Oliva does the writing for both Savatage and TSO, so he must do some symphonic stuff. Could you email me some stuff?

Thor 02-11-2006 09:56 PM

NP - Iced Earth "Winter Nights"

This has to be one of the most enjoyable power metal songs that I have heard in a very long time.

You could take that song, video, the whole sound and vibe that the band has now and go back to 1985 and it would all fit right in nicely...

I'll send you some uploads tomorrow after the Slough Feg mailing list goes out.

If you want Savatage's more symphonic, rock opera sort of stuff, you need to look into post-HotMK material. I was actually about to do a write-up thread on them now, so I'll explain it better there. It should be up within the hour, I hope.

Quick question: why does everybody seem to take such sadistic glee in demonizing the 80's?

MetalOz 02-11-2006 10:41 PM
Quick question: why does everybody seem to take such sadistic glee in demonizing the 80's?
I'm not demonizing, I'm Grandpa Oz, oldest Mxer, I grew up in the 80s. I've got videos of my band wearing spandex pants and playing songs by Cinderella to prove it <locked away of course to protect my dignity>

I like the video and the song isn't bad... look at the band pics on Hellfire Club and Tobias is even doing his David Lee Roth impression jumping up and doing the splits...

Oh. I guess I'm a little jaded. This last week I've had four arguments with people (online and off) who seem to believe the 80's were a wasted decade.
Oh. I guess I'm a little jaded. This last week I've had four arguments with people (online and off) who seem to believe the 80's were a wasted decade.
Wasted no, insanely tacky yes.

Steerpike 02-12-2006 12:52 AM

True, but for the most part the 80's was bombarded with high ambition and not enough money or technology to make it happen.

Imagine for just 5 minutes what the A-Team would be like if they had CSI's budget and John Woo worthy technology.

Take a moment to picture how much further Adam Ant could have taken his music back then if he had today's synthesizers, sequencers, etc.

And, go with me on this one, imagine a world in which the 80's seasons of Space Ghost and the Superfriends had the money to hire good writers.

It's amazing to think that now, people have the tecnology to recreate that sort of thing on an extremely low budget. For $10,000 you can make a feature length movie. For around the same price, you can make a full-length studio album.

It seems though that Edguy, despite understanding this and still making a quality product, just can't please everybody. I guarantee that if they had not made the change in style that they did on Hellfire Club, everyone would be bitching that they're getting stale like Stratovarius.

But since they did make the change, other people are bitching that they didn't make Mandrake II.

No matter what you do, you're gonna piss off somebody.
