That's because you went to one of those hardcore Indian food places that cook up real Indians.
Those are the best places to eat.

Bartender 11-17-2005 06:39 PM
Does it taste like it smells?

I went into this one Indian place back in New York, smelled terrible.
Well smell and taste are closely linked in all food. I'll refrain from answering, because you really should just try it for yourself. Otherwise it's a parallel to the "Genre X sucks" idiots that still trouble us here now and again.

Anyway, the reason for the prominence of strong smells in Indian cooking originates in a need to cover the smell/taste of the rotting meat they had to use.

NP Blackalicious (feat. Lyrics Born, Saul Williams and Zack De La Rocha) - Release

Great track.

"White man kills our men, then makes mean sandwhich."

But seriously, there's a movie out where this one chinese restaurant makes wontons out of babies. It's sick.

Wow. That just turned me off.

Alright, I'll go for it sometime. My parents love it, and I don't live too far from a big Indian neighborhood, so it won't be a hassle.

Shadows 11-17-2005 06:43 PM

Rotting meat and dead babies? I'm hungry now. Mmmmm, corpses.

Well they don't use rotting meat now. If you're a peasant in olde India, and you get your hands on some lovely meat, you're not going to throw it away just because it starts to smell a bit odd. So they developed all kind of really strong smelling and tasting sauces and such, to cover the meat and ease the eating. And then as preservation methods improved, and they didn't have to worry about the meat going off so much any more, they liked the sauces so much they carried on using them with regular, tasty meat.

Cool. Just to be clear, I'm not the greatest fan of Indian myself, though I do like it. It's worth trying just so, if you don't like it, you can say you have, if nothing else.

EDIT: I've never had it in America, now that I think of it. I wonder if that'll make a difference. I know it doesn't have the culture that it does in England.

GenuineImitation 11-17-2005 06:52 PM

I never had Indian food. If I do try it, what would you recommend.

ATM 11-17-2005 06:53 PM

sup guys?

Well, today was an uneventful day. Thursdays blow. I'm glad though, because tomorrow is Friday, which means Free Friday, which means no underwear. :)

/lame

I've never had Indian food either. I don't think there is one around me, though.

Oh shi', it's Chris. Long time no see. Did you get a life, or did you join in on some kind of A&I boycott of R&M? :p

Shadows 11-17-2005 06:55 PM

Tomarrow is going to be great. I get out of school an hour early. :)

But then I have to work on Saturday. :(

Going commando on a nice, summer day is great.

Well I can't think of anything I'd specifically recommend against. Just go with whatever takes your fancy, and see if you like it. Depends how hot you like your food, too, so ask around before ordering anything more severe than a madras or something.

ATM 11-17-2005 07:00 PM

Not much going on here, guys. I saw Murder by Death on Tuesday. They weren't very good :-/

MBS 11-17-2005 07:00 PM

Yeah, today was uneventful for me too. Although my chem teacher kept on using sexual innuendo in our class.

*on the topic of building atoms with bonds*

Teacher: So, next week, we're going to be playing with our sticks and balls.

Class: .....

Teacher: To build an atom.

Class: *relieved sigh*

Chemistry is like that. Apparently in lower level chem classes at my school, people have to watch a video where some guy rubs a long glass rod for a while and then sticks it between metal balls. :(

Also, my history teacher keeps trying to shift our discussion in class to pornography lately.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-17-2005 07:06 PM

I love talking about subjects that make people feel awkward. Nothing really phases me, so I sometimes try to derail my chemistry teacher by talking about stuff like porn, or whatever. He's more than willing to reply too. Sometimes it's rather scary. :p

OC Aaron- My chem teacher pulled the same joke last year. :p Only, he specified' "You'll probably be playing with black balls more than anything else. They represent Carbon."

Shadows 11-17-2005 07:08 PM

In history we're talking about the Enlightenment, and much of it has to do with reading material in the eighteenth century.

Apparently most of which was comprised of pornography.

MBS 11-17-2005 07:11 PM

 My chem class is so great.

We're talking about acids and then our teacher says "My favorite kind of acid is hydrochloric acid. It's so fun to say", then a kid in our class shouts "MY favorite kind of acid is lysergic acid diethylamide!"

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-17-2005 07:17 PM

 That's another one that me and my chem teacher talk about. He has a thing for hallucinogens, it seems like. We spent an entire period talking about LSD and shrooms once, it was awesome. He swears this though; "I have never, and I will never make any sort of illegal drug. I have made plenty of bombs though."

He's probably the smartest guy I know.

That's like my web page design teacher last year (he teaches physics and chem also). One time, he brought a potato launcher to school, and we spent the day out of the field shooting potatoes at walls. And he also has a "Mole Day" where he dresses up in a mole costume and throws Tootsie Rolls at all the science classes. He's a cool guy.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-17-2005 07:24 PM

He's been gone all week, though, because the science department went to some kind of giant convention of sorts. Basically, we just sit there for 2 hours every day work on a simple packet, which only takes half an hour. Then we get to chat for 90 minutes talking about nothing. Me and 3 senior guys started creating and planning a few pranks. 2 of these guys are rather good mechanics, so we figured we might do some temporary vandalism to the cars of certain people we don't like. Some time, we're planning on taking the driveline out of a few people's cars, and disconnection their spark plug. One of the guys says he could do all that in 7 minutes.

Mole Day is worthless. 6.02 x 10^23 zomg zomg zomg NOT COOL!

Shadows 11-17-2005 07:26 PM

2 hours a day? That's how long your normal classes are?

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-17-2005 07:27 PM

No, it's a zero-hour two period class. Normally, classes are 50 minutes, so we actually go for about an hour and forty, I guess.

jpj 11-17-2005 07:29 PM

On Mole Day all the kids in the Chem. Club used do experiments in the halls and stuff, andlast year they were making bouncy balls out of something, and a business teacher's son ate it. So now they're not allowed to do it anymore.

Shadows 11-17-2005 07:31 PM
No, it's a zero-hour two period class. Normally, classes are 50 minutes, so we actually go for about an hour and forty, I guess.
Oh. for a minute I thought your school was on the ever-hated block scheduling.

jpj 11-17-2005 07:34 PM

Block scheduling is awesome. I love only having 4 classes in a day, and getting to switch 2nd semester. Some teachers I couldn't stand having all year.

Toaster 11-17-2005 07:35 PM

I just finished reading The Stand. The extended version, oh yes. Good book, but too long-winded. Worth a read.

/totally unrelated comment

jpj 11-17-2005 07:37 PM

I hated that movie.
