Hey guys. Sorry I don't post here much anymore. But recently in my life, alt rock>classic rock.
I still like cr, but have very little new to contribute to the conversation.
I think most of the old regulars have drifted off to different types of music. To be quite honest, I think we're the most openminded thread in the whole board; we basically talk about anything here. CR related, of course... :shifty: |
I've never been a mod or an admin.....
The Velvet Underground come off as highly overrated for me. I've listened to 3 of their albums so far and of course they have their moments; "Heroin" happens to be one of my favorite songs period but most of their music is just mediocre. They definitely don't live up to their legendary reputation. Transformer didn't do anything for me either. |
Transformer was a Lou Reed solo album. The Velvet Underground are definatley one of my favorite bands ever.

I found the motherland of Dead bootlegs.  :chug: :chug: |
That's why he said "either." I love them. One of my favorite bands ever.
And yeah, I've expanded my tastes a bit. To the point where it's sometimes odd to hear CR. |
I think Transformer is awesome. I like it better than any VU I've heard. "Take a Walk On the Wild Side" is so great.
|
I love VU. As JonG has said numerous times, Loaded is quite simply gold. VU & Nico is great too, but I don't think it's as consistent as Loaded. Plus Nico just sucks. It'd be a lot better without her.
I also have Transformer and it's very strong. Perfect Day is the best on there methinks. Really good album but I prefer the VU. I also haven't heard any of Reed's other solo material. Recommendations? np: Beck- Readymade And yeah, my tastes have expanded a ton thanks to this thread. I think we're definitely the most open-minded thread on the forum. We talk about whatever music we feel like talking about. We're above thread rules:cool:. Thanks to all the album trading we do, my music collection is multiple times bigger than it was before and way more diverse. |

I like Femme Fatale off VU & Nico. Her voice is great.
A Million Miles Away is an amazing song. I learned some of it today on guitar. I want a harmonica. |
She's gonna break your heart in two! It's true.
I love that album too. I actually love all of their albums, including the little rarities and unreleased tracks album that I have. It's all great stuff. Reed's a great song writer but I think he did his best work with them. |
His stuff was incredible when he went solo. I mean Metal Machine Music was absolutely brilliant! A true musical landmark of modern music for sure.
Oh god Nico on "Femme Fatale" makes me want to jump out a window. |
VU is one of my favorite bands. I think John Cale was great, I think Lou Reed was excellent and I think Nico is great also. They are all good albums
|
I want a harmonica.
Go to Cracker Barrell and buy one for 2 bucks. I've gone on sort of a CR recession, I've haven't listened to any in like a week. I've been listening to a bunch of newer stuff lately. |
Go to Cracker Barrell and buy one for 2 bucks.
One of the reasons I miss the east. Best breakfast evarrrr. (Who's in your avatar?)
I think John Cale was great
Isn't he in your avatar? I just noticed Danny Whitten's (rhythmn guitar of Crazy Horse) strum patterns on some of the songs on Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. It's all so completely random. He'd play maybe 3 or 4 of one chord, then 3 or 4 of the next, then speed up and play 6 or 7, then play 2 of the first chord, it's really weird. The whole band seems to follow Danny, not Neil. |
I just got the Joan Baez cd "First Ten Years" today. It is really good, she does a great cover of Don't Think Twice its Alright.
|
(Who's in your avatar?)
Dave Gilmour. My radio station finally played On An Island, I really liked it. I'd go buy the album but I'm broke. No job. :( |
Oh god Nico on "Femme Fatale" makes me want to jump out a window.
Glad someone agrees with me. She's like Yoko except doesn't suck nearly as much. But she makes part of that album unlistenable for me. DDM, that'd be great if you could upload it. I'm in no rush to hear it, so take your time. It sounds pretty interesting. I love how Reed always experimented and changed his sound a lot. Harmonica owns. Gilmour is in Midnight Rider's avatar. Joan Baez was great at Woodstock and with Dylan. Haven't heard much of her other stuff though. |
She's like Yoko except doesn't suck nearly as much.
Yoko's terrible. I liked the John Lennon Acoustic CD, but when Yoko came in on The Luck Of The Irish, I wanted to rip out my ears. |
Yoko's terrible. I liked the John Lennon Acoustic CD, but when Yoko came in on The Luck Of The Irish, I wanted to rip out my ears.
I think that's the standard response to hearing Yoko's voice. It's not the most pleasant thing to hear. |
I just found out that Ali Farka Toure died. :(
Anyone a fan? |
A Million Miles Away is an amazing song. I learned some of it today on guitar.
Amazing song. one of rory's more bluesy songs compared to his rock/blues song. |
Joan Baez was great at Woodstock and with Dylan. Haven't heard much of her other stuff though.
Thats how I started and I would strongly recommend her to anyone. Her voice is just breath taking. And its very hard to sell me on just a voice (though she is much more than just a voice) the only one who has been able to do it is the girl (name escapes me) who sang on Dark Side of the Moon and Gimme Shelter. Her voice is great too. To Schyma: I haven't heard of Ali Farka Toure, but I'm sorry it sucks to have a hero die. |
Yoko is terrible.
She ruined Lennon. Nico>Yoko>Linda McCartney>Me>Donna Godchaux |

Merry Clayton, I think. |
Merry Clayton, I think.
Its something like that. I used to know that because it was good classic rock triva, then drugs killed my memory. Whoops. No regrets though. |
I'm pretty sure it's Clare Torry or something like that.
/too lazy to check Just checked and Wikipedia agrees with me. |
Page 1969 bitches!
The greatest year of all time. We see the release of the two greatest albums of all time....Abbey Road by The Beatles and Tommy by The Who. We also see Woodstock, the most famous music festival of all time (and most successful I might add). I'm sure there's other things but I can't remember. Oh yeah, and its 69 *snicker snicker* |
The year 2954. A great year in music future. The resurrected corpse of Jeff Buckley tours again and Jeff Beck releases his 100th album.*
*I wish. I wish my pages weren't messed up. |
1969 also had The Stooges's debut, which had the song 1969.
|
And, if I'm not mistaken, also saw the Rolling Stones release Let it Bleed.
|
In 1969, all the planets were aligned perfectly. Led Zeppelin's debut Led Zeppelin was released.

Ah yes, great song. Speaking of Bryan Adams, he really doesn't get much recognition in this thread does he? He's got some really great songs. I love his gravelly voice, reminds me a lot of Rod Stewart's. |
I can't remember ever talking about him in here actually.
|
Speaking of Bryan Adams, he really doesn't get much recognition in this thread does he?
No, but with good reason. |
No, no talk about Bryan Adams. Ryan Adams is alright to talk about. Bryan Adams is a no go. Mkay kids!
|

Ryan Adams = awesome alternative country rock \m/ Bryan Adams = Bland ballad songwriter /m\ |
Bryan Adams = Bland ballad songwriter /m\
That's a bit of a short-sighted opinion. He's got a lot of good songs, and not just ballads either. |
I hate Bryan Adams.
Summer of '69 is the worst song ever. He was born in '59, so he was "strummin' on a 6 string" when he was 10? Douche. |
