I saw Moon Boots on Friday at the Gladstone. Now he was a fucking disappointment.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYkMqILVvmE
sounds like the type of thing you just trigger on stage and walk away. No automation, no interplay, nothing that doesn`t already happen on the cd or whatevs

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 02:45 PM

I`m very discerning about my electronic music. Its not just some budding new scene to me. So I``d think that I`d be bored flat from some of those acts. I kinda took a chance on tycho cause I didn`t know his work or really the type of electronica he made. The nice surprise was the drumébasséguitar combo, you can tell the crowd responded way better to that than the one song he played by himself.

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 02:46 PM

It was that. Didn't even add effects, filtas, triggas, anything.

Just him on stage which was cool cuz I quickly figure out that instead of playing attention to the music I should just talk and shit.

You like FLOSSTRADAMUS?

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 02:48 PM
whats wrong w/ flip flops
nothing wrong with them, its the people who wear them outside of the comfort zone....Like stomping around on the dancefloor is a little wack in flipflops, the floor was so sticky too that it would be likely a greasy hipster would spill out and domino the crowd.

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 02:48 PM

I'll see any french house that comes to Toronto cuz I can't get enough.

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 02:54 PM

they have a good mashup...so it really depends on their automation and programming skills. Otherwise nothing too special...as far as I can hear right now.

The best show I saw was Daedelus on may 11th at the wrong bar. The guy was tripping harder than everyone in the room and he was responding so damn well to the crowd it was unreal. I was tripped hard too, practically thought the show was about me for a moment. Got to shake his hands and give him my best wishes. He was rocking a suit that made him look like some imperial bell-hop, with tails nonetheless.

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 02:55 PM

GF just got mad at me cuz I went on a rant about how Grizzly Bear is a fucking joke for thinking they can ask $50 per ticket to see em at Massey Hall.

She's like: You are bugging.

Oh sorry for critiquing your fav ovarated shitty hipsta band.

RUN THE TRAP!

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 02:57 PM

Best electronic show I've eva seen is Still A-Trak like 3 years back.

Best recent show was Bon Iver, which surprised even me.

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 02:58 PM

yeah grizzly bear has nice production but the content can`t be saved. There`s a lot of artists pining to the affections of people who don`t want to actually find new music or go too far out of their bounds style-wise.

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 02:59 PM

Fuck them.

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 03:00 PM

still haven;t seen a cool dj....so I`m sure a-trak would be pretty jumpin.

fingers mccoy 07-11-2012 03:01 PM

grizzly bear are pretty good i think

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 03:01 PM

Best hip-hop show: Dj battle Premo vs Pete rock with Black Poet.

Hiphop heads: Black Poet is the best mc you have neva listened to.

hnd has a gf?

so beta

u should be out there fuckin a whole harem

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 03:23 PM

backtracking: Grizzly Bear is good in context, but hype factor does leave a putrid taste in my mouth. Their music leans close to the indie aesthetic...which shouldn't be some overblown masseyhall venue nonsense.

fingers mccoy 07-11-2012 03:24 PM

hype hasn't really reached me tbh so that's all good to me

i like department of eagles

indie just goes over my head i don't understand it

chubby men in tight red jeans lollipopin around the place

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 03:27 PM

that's pretty much the new stance yeah.

The opening act yesterday was pretty hilarious. Black dude with clear clubbing influence paired up with a fat hispanic dude rocking Robert Smith's hair and the most disaffected look this side of sonic youth.

Yeah, I got into him a few years back. Invention and Days Demise were me faves of his, I didn't know what to expect because I hadn't heard his recent work...it was sick brick-tight totally vision-inducing stuff.

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 06:08 PM

Holy fuck sugarcoated you aren't a edmhead at all. You disappoint.

are you into brainfeeder stuff?

fingers mccoy 07-11-2012 06:20 PM

of course he is

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 06:21 PM

umm...its hard to say. I've mostly dug through the early to mid 90's stuff. In the post 2000's I've broken into more of the minimal techno/house stuff. I also haven't come out to see many shows, but am making more of an effort since I want to pick up some influences to start my own ting'an'ting.

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 06:27 PM

Brainfeeder being another moniker? or artist?

I guess I'm more into the conceptual and experimental sort of electronica. Apart from the blissed out jacked-up stylings of Squarepusher...which I'm gonna have to secure a ticket to. He's coming to toronto later this year.

fingers mccoy 07-11-2012 06:28 PM

brainfeeder is flylo's label

HighandDriving 07-11-2012 06:34 PM

flylo is so ovarated it isn't even funny.

SugarCoatedSour 07-11-2012 06:35 PM

ahh.

No, I haven't gotten into FlyLo yet. I've known of him for quite a while but my interests had drifted before I could come to his cosmogramma...which is practically his prime album.
