The first album I got was... Vol .4 I think.
|
First tiem i can remember heraing black Sabbath as when a local band played Paranoid at some crappy gig, i loved the song (although what the band did to it wasnt great), but from there i borrowed 'the best of...' and that got me into metal in general (and later from there Andy being the nice guy that he is got me into Dragonforce:chug: ).
i think im the only person that still likes the song Paranoid. |
I'm pretty sick of it personally.
|
Meh its like Crazy Train by Ozzy, you either love it or you hate it
|
It's not that I hate the song, I'm just sick of hearing it.
Give me Into The Void anyday. |
That song is awesome, from that killer opening riff right to the end.
|
i liked into the void the first couple times i heard it
|
What do you guys think of Iommi's solo work?
I've got a thread on him. Just click on my avatar, then scroll to find the 'Tony Iommi' thread. |
Has anybody heard any of Bill's solo stuff? I personally havnt but can imagine it ro be not very heavy at all. Especially after hearing It's Alright from Technical Ecstacy.
|
I got into Sabbath through my uncle, he's a huge fan. He gave me We Sold Our Soul For Rock N' Roll.
|
I really only got into Sabbath near the end of last year, but I've been an avid Ozzy fan since mid 2004.
As for Geezer doing Jazz, I'd be really keen to hear it |
So have you had heard any non-ozzy Sabbath? Its really good stuff.
|
I like Sweet Leaf, that's an amazing song.
|

Yeah I have, I picked up a really nice Sabbath box set a while ago, basically a greatest hits from when Sabbath started till 1988, but I have 2 say, that Sabbath wasn't really ever the same without Ozzy. The singer makes the band, i find. You know, most bands are most easily identified by the singer's voice, and unless you are really into Sabbath, it can be hard to tell it is Sabbath without Ozzy. Well, at least thats how I saw it before i actually started listening to it. |

Personally I prefer them with Dio, but they had more increadible albums with Ozzy. Dio's vocals fit the band perfectly, Heaven and Hell might be my favorite Sabbath album. I'm also really getting into their s/t. I love the bluesy feel to it, and the instrumental work is some of their best. |
I popped in the self titled yesterday or the day before, and man! It was really awesome! The title track and The Wizard blew me away. I remember thinking this cd was OK when I bought it a while back, but now I love it. I can listen to that stuff all day. :p
I think I may pick up Masters Of Reality tomorrow... I already have Paranoid, and I want more! |

Sweat Leaf is so awesome, to listen to and to play. Orchid is cool to play if you have multi recording equipment. |
Solitude is probably the best track from Master of Reality.
For me anyways. |
Solitude is probably the best track from Master of Reality.
For me anyways.
Solitude is just one of sabbath's best song alltogether, although for some reason not many people realise it  I gave TYR another listen today, i still dont like it there just isnt anything there for me to like it. |

Yeah, Solitude is really underrated. Master of Reality is really good, I don't have any problems with it being a tad short. |
sabbath sucked without ozzy. personally i can't stand crazy train but i do love paranoid and war pigs. all of sabbaths stuff rocks (with ozzy) and I can't help but love Zakk's guitar work on his recent stuff. btw on the under cover album jerry cantrel does the guitar work.
|
Sabbath was still awesome without Ozzy. Dio is a great singer. Ian Gillan too. And I didn't know Jerry Cantrell played on that album. I still haven't heard it yet.
|
So I did pick up Master Of Reality for like 9 bucks at the store today, I only listened once, and it seemed pretty good. Something weird, though, is on the back cover it says the last track is 3:08, and when I read that, it was well past the 6 min mark... Oh well, more Sabbath then expected = Good. :D
|
Yes I have found you can't trust those time things, Iron Maiden especially. If you have the original record though the times printed on the label are usually about right.

Ozzy is my favourite sabbath singer, but i think to say that sabbath without him sucked is just plain ignorant (i know because until i heard the song 'TV Crimes' i thought the exact same thing) also Crazy Train is awesome
Yeah, Solitude is really underrated. Master of Reality is really good, I don't have any problems with it being a tad short.
i think that album is just the right length,if it was any longer it would have dragged on abit. although the song Orchid could ahve been alot better, the first few notes sound really good but after that it drops in quality, i know its just a 1 and a halve minute instrumental but still... |
Sabbath was still awesome without Ozzy. Dio is a great singer. Ian Gillan too.
I agree, other Sabbath singers were good, but Ozzy had a different element to him, aside from his voice. I find the band overall sounds better with Ozzy, as if the band chemistry was better with him in it than not. I don't know, but there was something else he added that nobody else did. Heaven & Hell is a great album, my favorite without Ozzy. Other than that, I love Master of Reality, its got a very nice deep dark feel to it. Great to zone out to. |
Sabbath was still awesome without Ozzy. Dio is a great singer. Ian Gillan too. And I didn't know Jerry Cantrell played on that album. I still haven't heard it yet.
Don't, whatever you do. Ozzy might have been able to pull something like it off twenty years ago, but his voice is dead. The only bright side is Cantrell's guitar work, other than that, the tracks I've heard are awful. I'm sorry Ozzy, but your cover of Working Class Hero was torture. |
Here's a new subject for the Sabbath fans in here: favorite Sabbath cover?
For me, it's Pantera's "Planet Caravan" |
Faith No More's War Pigs and Megadeth's Paranoid covers are pretty awesome.
|
I like Megadeth's Paranoid, I didn't like Pantera's Planet Caravan though.
|
nofx did iron man and it sucked... what else would be expected though
|
nofx did iron man and it sucked... what else would be expected though
Wow, that would sound horrible. Even though "Iron Man" is probably Sabbath's most famous songs, it's still one of my favorites. |
Hm...I gotta say either Paranoid by Megadeth, or Snowblind by System of a down
|
Slayer did a pretty good cover of hand of doom (atleast i think slayer did it)
|
Anyone absolutely love Solitude? It's by far my top Sabbath track, so dark...
|
Ozzy added a mystical and almost Phycadelic(sp?) sound to Sabbeth, but Dio has a pretty powerfull voice.
|
I'd say The Bad Plus' Iron Man is a pretty sweet cover. I saw it on Geezer's Celebrity Playlist on iTunes, and he described it as one of the most original covers he'd heard. Faith No More's cover of War Pigs is good too, though its far from better than the original
|
Faith No More's War Pigs and Megadeth's Paranoid covers are pretty awesome.
the FNM version of War Pigs is awesome. i haven't heard the Megadeth cover or Paranoid, but their version of Never Say Die! is pretty damn good. i like the Metallica version of Sabbra Cadabbra / A National Acrobat as well.
Ozzy added a mystical and almost Phycadelic(sp?) sound to Sabbeth, but Dio has a pretty powerfull voice.
i love Dehumanizer, Dio was awesome on it. possibly my favourite Sabbath album out of the ones i have. |
Hm...I gotta say either Paranoid by Megadeth, or Snowblind by System of a down
SOAD did snowblind? No offence to you but that would probably sound bloody horrible. |
Snowblind by SOAD is one of the worst sabbath covers i have ever heard, its right up there with weezer's war pigs *shudders*
