i think i like clapton more as a musician than a guitarist. whatever band/solo project he was doing was usually more about the songs, instead of him showing off his guitar skills. i like that.

MalcolmYoungRock 09-11-2004 11:59 AM

..............

Most bands aren't about showing off their guitar skills.

They all work together to make music.

I think what you mean is Clapton just kind of blended in with the crowd and didn't do anything like take a solo in the middle of a show when it wasn't supposed to be there.

Yeah. But that's why he's so good. Who cares about good guitar parts if the song is good? I rockin' solo wont make a bad song good.

off topic but im listening to thick as a brick right now and kicks major arse

Lunch was nice.......................Foggerty was amazing.

Seafroggys 09-11-2004 01:07 PM
I don't know, if you took anyone away from The Who they wouldn't be the same at all. So it's hard to single out just Pete.
True. Keith Moon died, but The Who went on a little while, quitting in 1982 (I think) then picking it back up with Zak Starkey (of all people :D ). They did quite well. With Entwhistle dead, I don't know now though what will happen. I know I'm pissed at Pete for supporting the Iraq war.

mrpham 09-11-2004 01:14 PM

A lot of students at my school love classic rock. Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Who and a lot of others are really popular among us

shadow_stalker 09-11-2004 01:31 PM

i was watching top of the poips two with my dad and the rolling stones were on with 'i know its only rock and roll' and ever since then ive loved that kind of music, also i have liked the beatles since i heared about 5 seconds of 'she loves you' on ozzy osbourne's behind the music

jpj 09-11-2004 02:33 PM

MalcolmYoungRock 09-11-2004 02:36 PM

MalcolmYoungRock 09-11-2004 02:48 PM

Then BOOM! CREAM! and BOOM! LED ZEPPELIN!

Now it's just kind of a bunch of random people calling it The Yardbirds. I bet it would be good.

jpj 09-11-2004 02:56 PM

MalcolmYoungRock 09-11-2004 02:57 PM

Damn cyberspace.

slowhand 09-11-2004 03:33 PM

And now, let's clear up the Yardbirds guitar line up.

As you all know, Clapton came first of the 3 British Guitar heros that played with the Yardbirds. He left when they dared to go pop (I think the single was called 'For your love' or something like that) and then they went after Page, who was a producer and one of the most sought out session players. He said no and instead told them about Jeff Beck, who joined them. Jeff Beck later quit and that's when Page jumped in, but he played alongside Beck before he quit the Yardbirds and did also play bass until the other Yardbirds guitarist decided to leave the guitar work to Page.

And that's how it goes. But when Clapton left the Yardbirds that's when he really earn his respect. He wasn't a pop merchant, but a blues guitarist.

Oh, and my favourite Clapton era is Cream.

MalcolmYoungRock 09-11-2004 03:35 PM

K thanks

yup. thats how it is

BludgeonySteve 09-11-2004 04:31 PM

Who wants to do sort of like the ultimate metal band poll and make an ultimate classic rock band thing? We could do 4 threads of 12 bands each and pick the 3 best bands of each to be in the final thread.

How 'bouts it? Everyone name some classic rock and hard rock bands to go in it.

Mankind_ 09-11-2004 04:36 PM

no zeppelin or floyd tho, man, i mean, come on...
