It's not really that much effort.

I wrote a script, so when I open a "folder" (it's a shortcut to the script), it runs the connection details, and returns a window containing the received data.

It's slightly longer then if you were just opening a file on your hd, but either way you see the same effect.

Edit: The files are stored on my home computer (as in my home computer is my server), I got paranoid when I first went to uni like "omgosh, I have porn on my laptop, I don't really want anyone seeing this".
