Riva 06-14-2006 06:11 PM

Yes, as would I. That's my point.

Shattered_Future 06-14-2006 06:12 PM

All right then. I'd still think they have somewhat of a stoner sound, but that's just me...

purplepixelman 06-14-2006 11:32 PM

sofa king killer - lust crime and holiness ep
bongzilla - gateway, and amerijuanica

Tyler 06-14-2006 11:33 PM

So I was watching VH1's "Supergroup" and Ted Nugents licks were awesome, can someone reccomend me where to start with him?

pye phyo ko 06-16-2006 01:49 AM

long songs

can you guys post some long songs which exceed more 5 mins!

Honeymoon_Croon 06-16-2006 01:50 AM

Over 5 isn't that long.
Go check out X Japan's "Art Of Life", 29 minute masterpiece
And 90% Of Tool's songs are over 5 minutes

pye phyo ko 06-16-2006 01:50 AM

octarvium **** that song is the longest metal song i've ever heard over 24 mins

pye phyo ko 06-16-2006 01:52 AM

sorry i mean metal songs
not ochastrated masterpieces>>>

dUSK 06-16-2006 01:56 AM
sorry i mean metal songs

Even still, 5 minutes isn't a very long song.

There's a local prog band here that have a 23 minute prog metal song. It's awesome. Unfortunately it's still unreleased, so I can't share it with you guys. :(

EDIT: Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness (1:00:06)

Jacaranda 06-16-2006 01:56 AM

ABB - Mountain Jam 33:41
My actual longest song is VU's - Sister Ray at 38:00 but thats a bootleg.
Kyuss have "Spaceship Landing" but if I remember correctly there is a gap of silence that is like 15 mins long.

nick962 06-16-2006 01:57 AM

5 minutes is definetely not long, but whatever... here we go:
Rhapsody - The Odyessy (24:07)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Static (23:19)
(Pretty much anything else by GY!BE)
Sunn 0))) - Hallow Cave (21:58)
(Again, most of these dudes' songs exceed the 5 minute limit)
Agalloch - In the Shadow of our Pale Companion (14:45)
Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence (14:07)
Dream Theatre - The Glass Prison (13:52)
(Also most of DT's songs are over 5)
Helloween - Halloween (13:18)

...Thats good enough.
And Japan X - Art of Life
Forsure, an awesome song.

Meatplow 06-16-2006 02:10 AM

Yeah 5 minutes ceased to be long for me a long time ago.

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond is one i can name i think noone else has.

EDIT- Also how the hell could i forgot Fantomas' Delirium Cordia?

74 long minute song that takes up the whole disc it comes on. Granted the last 15 minutes or so is a track skipping, call it avant garde artistic innovation if you will but its disappointing to many including myself. Still a long piece of work.

Jacaranda 06-16-2006 02:16 AM

Five minutes is longer then the average song. Not amazingly long but longer then most.

TojesDolan 06-16-2006 02:19 AM
Yeah 5 minutes ceased to be long for me a long time ago.
Fugging progressive music and it's effects on my standards. :(

On a related note, Dream Theater - A change of seasons (23 or so)

blueyxd 06-16-2006 03:49 AM

Alpha Down - Megalith ... 30:00

Riva 06-16-2006 06:36 AM

Andrew Lloyd Webber/London Cast - Highlights From Phantom Of The Opera (59:18)

Of the real songs:

Ephel Duath - The Passage (46:31)
Porcupine Tree - Moonloop (40:07)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Providence (29:02)

Those are my 3 longest ones.

Stoic 06-16-2006 07:43 AM

I need bands in the vein of early Alice in Chains, early The Melvins and early Soundgarden.

blueyxd 06-16-2006 08:18 AM
Ephel Duath - The Passage (46:31)
ehm.. you have the entire album as one file there.
Alice in Chains, early The Melvins and early Soundgarden
try Karma To Burn and Down

Stoic 06-16-2006 08:26 AM
try Karma To Burn and Down
hmm, it's the first time I've heard of Karma to Burn and as for Down, does Anselmo sing the way he sings for Pantera? If so I wouldnt enjoy the vocals that much.

Shattered_Future 06-16-2006 08:32 AM

Symphony X actually did The Odyssey, not Rhapsody.

My longest song is El Mundo by Corrupted, at almost 74 minutes. But that's more in the vein of GY!BE styled music, where it's just synths. Longest actual "metal" song is Dopesmoker by Sleep, at 63 minutes.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-16-2006 08:36 AM

The longest song I have is 25:18.

Daven 06-16-2006 09:12 AM

The longest song i have is 1:13:55.

Musical_Nerd 06-16-2006 09:28 AM
The longest song i have is 1:13:55.
Ouch. Which song is that?

Daven 06-16-2006 09:34 AM

Corrupted - VIII - El Mundo

lamb_of_goddrummer 06-16-2006 02:11 PM

Dudes, he asked for bands with most songs over 5 mins...not for a contest on who knows the longest songs.

Riva 06-16-2006 05:58 PM
ehm.. you have the entire album as one file there.
So I see. Never noticed it before.

Shattered_Future 06-16-2006 06:15 PM
Corrupted - VIII - El Mundo

My longest song is El Mundo by Corrupted, at almost 74 minutes.
Deja vu...

Blind Guardian has tons of songs over 5 minutes. All of the songs on ANATO, save the bonus track, are over 5.

Holy Diver 06-16-2006 10:47 PM

Ok, I'm looking for a band that uses a lot of orchestration in their songs. I don't want a heavy metal band (at least not a speed metal band or a band with growling vocals), but more of a hard rock outfit. Kinda thinking along the lines of songs like Rainbow's "Stargazer" or Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir".

Suggestions?
