Dark Side is definitely the best, but Meddle is my favorite...

Danger Bird 02-25-2007 01:46 AM
i've been told it wasn't that good
You were told wrong.

Jacaranda 02-25-2007 02:15 AM
i've been told it wasn't that good
yo niobium i'll hit you up on Alt/Indie list if you want their best (imo imo imo and only mo) Atom Heart Mother or Piper at the Gates.... or Saucerful of Secrets....

niobium 02-25-2007 02:17 AM

That's quite nice of you, but... which one of the three?

Jacaranda 02-25-2007 02:21 AM

that is not the question the question is what three of one will be your favorite!

uh. i can do all three. I like AHM the best but that generally gets rejected by most people including band members as being bad.

rippa32 02-25-2007 02:25 AM
Dark Side is definitely the best, but Meddle is my favorite...
But then wouldn't Meddle be the best?

Riva 02-25-2007 03:02 AM

The Wall is better than Dark Side Of The Moon, but Niobium should look into Obscured By Clouds and Wish You Were Here definitely.

Atom Heart Mother has always been my personal favorite. I really like The Wall a lot, too.

How could you go?

rippa32 02-25-2007 04:13 AM

I don't really like the melody on that, it seems "strained" for lack of a better word.

Riva 02-25-2007 04:16 AM

Don't Leave Me Now is supposed to be strained, the character Pink is on the verge of mental collapse to match his emotional collapse in One Of My Turns.

rippa32 02-25-2007 06:20 AM

Well yeah I can see that but I think Roger took it too far to the point where the musicalness of it was sacrificed.

Riva 02-25-2007 06:39 AM

Well, to be honest, many parts of The Wall are supposed to be rather uncomfortable, both musically and lyrically, just like parts of Animals was.

rippa32 02-25-2007 07:31 AM

Well yeah I can see where your coming from, but I don't see where animals was uncomfortable.

I don't know what to do with three albums, I'm not the kind of person that can sit and listen to one band all day. Or become intrigued in a discography (you know what I mean) in one sitting. It took me more than a year to get interested in Meddle after Animals.

Riva 02-25-2007 05:22 PM

Atom Heart Mother isn't for you then. It has some great moments, especially If, but then you have Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast which really lets you down.

I'd say going for Saucerful Of Secrets of the three that Jac recommended, if you're going to take his word over mine. D=

Danger Bird 02-25-2007 05:46 PM

Saucerful is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite. Better than AHM, although I love AHM. The title track is beautiful, and I don't have a problem with Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast.

Sometimes I like to put Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles, Fat Old Sun by Floyd, and Sun King by the Beatles on a playlist and watch the sunset out my window.

rippa32 02-25-2007 06:23 PM

Ive only heard Here Comes The Sun but that sounds pretty cool.

Riva 02-25-2007 06:25 PM

Fat Old Sun is a pretty good song.

Most of Obscured By Clouds is great for a hot summer's day.

Danger Bird 02-25-2007 06:26 PM

Sun King is like a slowed down, tripped out Here Comes the Sun

MattSharpIsCool 02-26-2007 12:56 AM

If you've already got Meddle and Animals, try Wish You Were Here or Saucerful of Secrets. I would suggest Darkside, since I think it's their best work and it's popular for a reason, but if you don't want it, I would grab one of the other two I mentioned.

niobium 02-26-2007 01:28 AM

I'll go with Wish You Were Here next, just because it's been recommended consistently. Also I'll listen to whatever Jacaranda decides to upload :P

MattSharpIsCool 02-26-2007 01:32 AM

Wish You Were here is the easiest to get in to other than Darkside, so it's a safe choice. You will most likely enjoy Shine On You Crazy Diamond, that's maybe my favorite Floyd song.

ghettoeddo 02-26-2007 01:33 AM

i think WYWH is better than dark side at the moment

Apocalyptic Raids 02-26-2007 01:35 AM

Wish You Were Here is my favourite Floyd.

MattSharpIsCool 02-26-2007 01:40 AM

I find Wish You Were Here to be pretty overrated. Shine On is amazing, but the other three songs are nothing special. The album just doesn't give me the same cohesive feeling that Darkside or Animals does.

Mind you, I still like the album and I still listen to it. I just don't see it as on the same level as Darkside, Animals, or The Wall.

ghettoeddo 02-26-2007 01:42 AM

i know the title track is overrated...but i still cant help but feel so...awesome when i hear it.
its great when everyone just starts singing it and stuff

plus my girlfriend who has almost 0 knowledge of guitar took it upon herself to learn it and play it for me that was kinda cute :]

rippa32 02-26-2007 05:24 AM

Awesome, lucky man. Yer it's one of the Floyd songs the general public focus on a little too much but every time it's on I just gotta stop and listen to it.

Jacaranda 02-26-2007 07:48 AM

I just stopped listening to WYWH, no reason really I just don't like it as much as I used to. I never ever listen to DSotM or The Wall I can't listen to them for more then 5 songs or so then I get bored and change it.

Riva 02-26-2007 07:51 AM

That's odd, but I can understand it. I still can't think of The Wall as boring, haha.
