I'd strongly suggest you start using stencils. Even if you're freehanding was good, stencils are a better idea for permanent stuff like that. That way you know that the image is going to look like what you want it to.
Ahoy mates! I said i'd finish my denim soon and post pictures once I got it done, so, here it is!

This was my old jacket I made about 2 years ago

This is my denim I made just today, in 7 hours. Bear with me here, I still have an Axegrinder/Diskonto patches to finish screening and throw on, and a Charles Bronson patch to go on the front right, where there is an obvious blank space. Also, I have about 300 studs to add, but my fingers are just about bleeding from 7 hours of sewing, so saving that for tomorrow. :thumb:

As long as I'm on the DIY thread, I'll tell you how to make some lovely mulled cider. I just discovered the perfect formula. I used Blackthorn cider, and put a pint (measured from a pint glass) in a pan. Set it on heat and sprinkled some cinammon into it (we don't have cinnamon sticks, those would be better). I put a clove in it, two if you like it spicier, and two slices of orange. Stir it every thirty seconds or so, and once it starts boiling, put a spoonful of brown sugar in it and stir it in. Then turn off the heat, pour it in the pint glass (make sure the glass is not cold, or it will probably crack, my first one did =P) and drink away. It is extremely satisfying, especially here, where it just snowed. And it took me like three minutes to make. Enjoy.

sam-a-lam 12-27-2005 12:50 PM

that sounds delicious

Meh, glampunk.

I made the sparkly red vest, you can't really see it in the photo though.

I wish my sewing machine would work, it was so much effort =(

Subvert_bassist 12-27-2005 06:46 PM

I'm now of the opinion that, to be original in this scene, you should wear "normal" clothes: a band shirt and Dickies, as I do. However, when I wore a leather this was it (I was so proud of it):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v259/AndrewsAlbum/HPIM1219.jpg

And my vest. Keep in mind, this was like two years ago. The Misfits was paintes freehand, the rest are patches:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v259/AndrewsAlbum/HPIM1221.jpg

However, the vocalist of my band, Ryan, is killer at stencils. He doesn't have contrasted images to work with; he uses normal pictures, like from newpapers and such. One of our band's shirt designs:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v259/AndrewsAlbum/HPIM2301.jpg

..so today i found my leather vest thing, from about 2 years ago (when i was going through a faze in which i thought i was pUnK RaWk)..anyway, i do realize that most of the bands on my jacket suck, but overall i thought i did a pretty good job, here are some bad photos i took of it. and is there a place i can sell this jacket?

Excellent job on the leather, came out looking awesome! Both of those stenciled shirts, especially from what I could make out of the Amebix shirt, look f'ucking killer! The denim is nice, but i'm not a fan of using markers/fabric markers on denims, but none-the-less, good work!

Don't take offense, but I think your leather is not up to par. It looks very, very cheaply made, like you sat down blind-folded and just wrote band names on your leather. Your denim as well, personally speaking here, looks cheaply made. As I said, i'm not a fan of using... what looks like pen(?) on your denim, and using two crooked patches. It just looks very cheaply made.

Overall, i'm not Punk Police Officer, but I think you should spend more time on your jacket. I'm not saying i'm a DIY Jacket Van Gogh here, but put more effort into your jacket. It's the first thing people see at shows, and the first impression people get of you really. The purpose of the jacket is to stand out, and represent what bands you like. Furthermore, it symbolically represents who you are. With "**** Sparrer" written completely unevenly and probably in red nail polish, it just makes you look very cheap, and in my opinion idiotic. D.I.Y. is not an excuse for making something look s'hitty!

He's right. Just because its DIY, you shouldnt have some really lame jacket that, if made to look good would actually get people to notice it for a good reason rather then "Hey dude, look much that jacket sucks"

Didn't have the guts to say it myself but... 123

asdf 12-27-2005 08:29 PM

I enjoy on improving on my DIY skills such as stenciling and sewing. I don't think I could ever bring myself to paint on a leather jacket, though. They're very expensive, and then you can't sell it. Besides, my leather jacket is actually still technically my mom's, so it's not up to me to ruin it.

Anyway, if I were to make this stencil:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/copy.jpg
Would anyone recognize it at Jack Terricloth from World/Inferno Friendship Society?

Shtein 12-27-2005 08:37 PM

If you made it exactly like it then yes, but if you do a hack job at stenciling then no.
If you made it exactly like it then yes, but if you do a hack job at stenciling then no.
I'm pretty good at stenciling, so it would look like that.

Although it's kind of pointless for me to make it for two reasons:
I allready have a W/IFS shirt I made http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/worldinfernoinvert.jpg
No one in my city knows who W/IFS is, so I'd have to explain who he is all the time.

Still, I think it's a pretty good stencil and I want to use it.
