Joe - I'd say carry on writing them. I've had plenty of reviews get none, or few, replies. Less so since I was modded, curiously..

I downtuned my guitar (a lot) for the top 3 strings, and I'm playing it slap (I suck at that too), but the thing is, I just realized that Fieldy is truly talentless. All he does is downtune his bass until the strings are really loose, and then plays slap.

Paranoidd 11-17-2004 09:22 PM

I like playing slap on my guitar, but it knocks the bloody thing out of tuning constantly, it's just not worth it.

I had my whole guitar tuned down two steps to play some kyuss stuff, and its fun doing bends with the strings so loose.

Meh, I enjoy playing in standard.

I used to think his bass playing was some type of percussion instrument :amaze:

I usually have fun with C# tuning

What gauge of strings do you use?

Paranoidd 11-17-2004 09:28 PM

Ernie Ball 10's.

I'm going to start using zakk wylde boomers on my next string change, just because I'm trying to build strength and dexterity, and the thickness will help.

Nice user title. "The grass was greener." High Hopes, best Pink Floyd song. (Sorry, out of topic)

Using 10's for 2 steps down is going to be extremely loose. Use 11's or 12's for that far down tuning and they won't feel like twine. 10's are only good for standard or one step down tunings...if you had 11's or 12's on a 2 step down tune your strings would feel like you were using 10's in standard.

Paranoidd 11-17-2004 09:49 PM

Thats what I figured, I changed the strings myself for the first time a couple days ago. I didn't want to try anything new so I just bought 10's.

I'm a horrible player right now anyway (as my tab on the previous page displays) so I'm just trying to keep practicing.

Thats cool, we all start from the bottom...

What are you practicing at the moment?

Dancin' Man 11-17-2004 09:57 PM

Slap is only cool on guitar if it's acoustic (Justin King!!!)

I prefer heavier gauge strings. Anything less than .10 makes it feel like playing cooked spaghetti.

Gilmour Fanboy ++

Can't believe you, always putting down Delicate Sound Of Thunder.

Slap is fun... but yeah... the tuning gets tedious

i am the robots 11-17-2004 10:00 PM

my tuner doesn't pick up my e string.... so I try not to mess with that one's tuning.

I plan on not sucking soon.

Onto the new topic, Pink Floyd.... who is better Floyd or Yes? me and my friends argue about this every day... it's an even split 2 for yes 2 for pf.

GO YES!

Tune using harmonics. Not always perfect but at least you're in tune with yourself. You could use a tuner for low E then go from there with harmonics.

i am the robots 11-17-2004 10:05 PM

good idea... i guess. ty.

I agree with Eleventeen, Yes owns Pink Floyd

Yes, Pink Floyd is awesome.

Soooo umm, how 'bout that whether?

Permanent Solution 11-17-2004 10:28 PM

Pink Floyd is better, but Yes is still a superior band.

I generally never learn other songs. I just kind of look at tabs to understand the way things work (I know, I'm stupid).

I'm going to start with some Velvet Underground stuff though, to work on chord changes. They're relatively simple, and one of my favorite bands so it should be fun.

So is the weather girl. :naughty:
