I hear they overcharge, kids I know say they've spent immense amount of money in there. And I buy my shirts for like, six dollars.

BigTrav415 03-12-2006 12:02 AM
I didn't get mine at Hot Topic. I'm proud to say I've never been in there, ever. I don't pay $30+ for casual clothing.
I don't either, $19.25 including tax per shirt :) That's actually pretty cheap for anywhere you buy clothes. Any non-band shirts I have though are usually bought on clearance, sale, discount, or general cheapness. I'm a cheap guy usually, unless I really like something, like said shirts and Burnout Revenge. Today may have been one of the first times I have ever walked out of a mall with more than one bag.

I don't like Hot Topic's whole image either, but you can't deny that, exempting 9/10ths of the store, it has some awesome stuff. It took me a tiny bit to get over that though. The tiny bit was this:

Idiot: Hey, where did you get that awesome Pink Floyd shirt?
Me: Hot Topic.
Idiot: Haha!
Me: *punches Idiot in stomach*

Lunch 03-12-2006 12:03 AM

I've only seen a couple other people with that Who shirt, but it feels so fake and artificial, everything the Who shouldn't represent. Then again, it's just a t-shirt so it's not really a big deal.

BigTrav415 03-12-2006 12:09 AM
I've only seen a couple other people with that Who shirt, but it feels so fake and artificial, everything the Who shouldn't represent. Then again, it's just a t-shirt so it's not really a big deal.
I actually think it's a lot more representative of The Who than the bullseye logo one. That seems like the kind of shirt that you see on pretentious preteen girls two sizes too small to look trendy and fashionable while maintaining the horribly delusional mindset that they are original, all the while thinking The Who is a new clothing brand.

We're really reading a lot into these stupid shirts, aren't we? I guess I can still sleep on the idea that Pete Townshend just recieved a small royalty from me though.

Lunch 03-12-2006 12:11 AM

Considering how big the Who were into fashion in the mid-60's (or how big fashion was into the Who), it's hard not to appreciate the target logo. Mod in it's classic form all over.

BigTrav415 03-12-2006 12:15 AM

Ok, you win you damn Who fanboy :-*

I think it'd be awesome to dress up as a mod with some friends one random day at school.

Caesar haircuts FTW

Lunch 03-12-2006 12:16 AM

Mods were the metrosexuals of their time. Except with a little more balls.

Leper 03-12-2006 12:16 AM

Meh I think the target logo is way over-done. Just like the Rolling Stones tongue logo. If I could ever find a Stones shirt without that logo I would be a very happy man.

BigTrav415 03-12-2006 12:20 AM
Mods were the metrosexuals of their time. Except with a little more balls.
But to do a tribute to them would be different than dressing all homo nowadays, amirite?

iamrite

Go suck a Daltrey or something, Munch. You're ruining my once-perfect day :(

Lunch 03-12-2006 12:24 AM

They didn't really dress like homos, they just spent all their money on new clothes every week.

So yes, it would be different. Plus you would get to ride around in a scooter, and maybe even start some riots.

PinkFreud 03-12-2006 12:41 AM

They spent their money on drugs too. Don't forget the drugs.

I'm downloading the Deep Purple album that's live with an orchestra. I'm anticipating great things.

I was literally just thinking about that album a second ago, and how much I've wanted to hear it. Upload it if you have the time please :) I don't mess around with all that rapidshare fooey if I can help it.

Don't forget to take a lot of amphetamines. And then stutter a lot from all the drugs. And then you have "My Generation".

Glitterati 03-12-2006 01:24 AM

That's an awesome Who shirt, Trav.

I picked up Alice Cooper's new album today, it's really good.

I have that DP album on vinyl. Its pretty good, not exactly what I had in mind. It was too much "okay the orchestra's playing for like 6 minutes, holy crap hear comes Deep Purple for like 2 minutes, overpowering everything....then 5 more minutes of orchestra." It wasn't intertwined very well, something I really liked about Metallica's SnM.

The only shirt I have is my John Lennon shirt, and I bought that at the Rock n Fricken Roll Hall of Fame! Talk about ultimate!

Lunch 03-12-2006 08:56 AM

Yea, "leapers" if you will.

MidnightRider 03-12-2006 09:19 AM

The only band shirts I have are Floyd and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Freud, you should send out that DP, sounds cool.

Lunch 03-12-2006 10:18 AM

I'm listening to this band called the Cosmic Jokers from that 8 Days in April blog, they are awesome. Great kraut/prog/space/psych rock. Some parts are alittle off or annoying (as with most music from a similar genre I've heard), but other parts are great, very spacey and psychedelic.
The only shirt I have is my John Lennon shirt, and I bought that at the Rock n Fricken Roll Hall of Fame! Talk about ultimate!
As a rule, I don't usually buy band shirts unless I got one at a concert, but if I see a cool one then I sometimes buy it.

I've always wanted to hear that DP album, its a shame Seafroggys says its not too good though. I really want to get the live album Yes made with an Orchestra a few years ago, its supposed to be great.

TheDMV 03-12-2006 11:42 AM

Hey, Guys!

I'm going to see Billy Joel tomorrow! :euphoria:

I have about 5 Jimi shirts, but I just can't bring myself ot wear them anymore. My Who shirt is real comfortable, so I like wearing that. Then I have Floyd, and GD.

Krabsworth 03-12-2006 12:19 PM

I haven't worn a band shirt in about 8 months. I think most band shirts are made out of crap materials and not fitted too well. It is like the manufacturer just wanted to put the logo on a shirt, not caring that the shirt itself is crap.

Jacaranda 03-12-2006 01:22 PM
I'm going to see Billy Joel tomorrow! :euphoria:
Disgusting. Billy Joel has two good songs but the guys ego drives me insane. I mean maybe if he had more to brag about but no, all he gots is "Uptown Girl" and "Only the Good Die Young."

I have about 12 Rolling Stones shirts. I got most of them out of Montana so I have never seen anyone wear the same shirt but every day at school I see at least 5 people wearing Stones shirts or what not. It doesn't bother me I just smile every time I see them. I also have 3 Beatles shirts, one Doors, one John Lennon and two Jane's Addiction but my favorite shirt got ruined because when I went rafting I left it in the car and one of my dumb friends put an open candy bar on it so it melted into it and by the time we got back it was night time and cold so it was stuck on. :(

Ephemeral 03-12-2006 01:31 PM

My shirts:

- Pink Floyd 30th Aniversary Dark Side of The Moon
- Rolling Stones Established 1962
- The Who Bullseye
- Beatles Sgt. Peppers Emblem
- Beatles Logo
- Beatles Hard Days Night album cover
- Beatles one with all their faces on it

I'd like to find a Neil Young one.

I remember a long time ago when I tried to introduce Krautrock to this thread, you were one of the main ones saying how lame it sounded before even hearing it.

All I know about the Cosmic Jokers is that they were a Krautrock 'super group', one of my best friends said they're really good but I often ignore his opinion though because he also says Jefferson Airplane are 'really good' aswell. :p

My Shirts
---------------------------
-Ray Charles (Father of Soul)
-Johnny Cash
-Jimi Hendrix
-Grateful Dead (Steal Your Face)
-Woodstock
-Miles Davis

I've never noticed him having a big ego, and his songs are catchy as hell.
I often ignore his opinion though because he also says Jefferson Airplane are 'really good' aswell.
You say that like it's the general concensus amongst music fans, when really it's quite the opposite.

rockinbass17 03-12-2006 01:46 PM

I would have liked to see Billy Joel live, but all of the 13 concerts at the Garden sold out way too quickly.

But I'm seeing Queen + Paul Rodgers tonight. I hope its great.

Seafroggys 03-12-2006 01:54 PM

my ultimate dream is to play at Madison to a full arena.

ATM 03-12-2006 01:59 PM

Yea, Hot Topic shirts are lame. I'm sorry, but it's true!

:-*

robo2448 03-12-2006 02:04 PM

Shirts I have:

Stereotypical DSOTM shirt
Beatles shirt
Lennon shirt
Cream shirt
Tea Leaf Green shirt

Billy Joel is okay. Piano Man is great and his radio songs are catchy but some of his stuff is pretty cheesy. I think he does have a pretty big ego, but I bet he puts on a fantastic live show.

My Coconuts has a really awesome tie-dyed Who and Pink Floyd shirts, but by the time I see them I've already spent all my money on cds. I have to remember to get them before I run out of money next time.

PinkFreud 03-12-2006 02:05 PM

Jeez. I ONLY have band shirts with like, 3 exceptions. I have

1 Beatles shirt (Let It Be)
3 Hendrix shirts (Side face sillhouette, Are You Experienced?, and May I Whisper In Your Ear?)
1 Doors shirt (Time To Die)
1 Velvet Underground shirt (Book cover)
1 Death Cab For Cutie shirt (Flaming leaf)
1 Gorillaz shirt (Shoot To Ill)
1 Led Zeppelin shirt (Icarus in color)
1 John Lennon shirt (New York shirt)
2 Electric Six shirts (E6 Wants To Take The Pain Away and main logo)
1 Black Crowes shirt (Two black crows tour)
1 Buddy Guy shirt (Name tour)
1 MC5 shirt (Hotrod)
2 The Who shirts (This Guitar Has Seconds To Live and the band wrapped in a Union Jack)
1 Rolling Stones shirt (Lips logo)
1 Pink Floyd shirt (The Wall guy watching TV in field)

I think that's it.

It's fine to make a joke about bands you don't like, everyone does once in awhile. But every time someone brings up a certain band, or even when the conversation has nothing to do with them, you have some smart ass comment to say. It's annoying.

MidnightRider 03-12-2006 02:54 PM

I found this awesome store today called All Things Groovy, it's basically just a big hippie store. They have all kinds of band apparel, I picked up a tye-dye DSOTM shirt, a tye-dye Allman Bros. shirt, and a Black Sabbath poster.

Just forget I said anything, it's not worth the arguement.

TheDMV 03-12-2006 03:26 PM

I didn't expect a great reaction to Billy Joel, but come on jacaranda.

PinkFreud 03-12-2006 03:32 PM

Jac's outspoken about artists he doesn't like. Haha. It's like his trademark. He's also outspoken about artists he DOES like. I mean, you mention Kelly Clarkson once and he's all about the praise. :p

gmoneyguy 03-12-2006 03:37 PM

Little bit late but I have:
4 Beatles Shirts (group pic in field, Group pic with logo background, SPLHCB, Abbey Road)
2 Zeppelin Shirts (Icarus, and IV)
1 Zeppelin leather jacket with Icarus on the back
1 Hendrix Stone free
1 Age of Silence
1 Atomship
2 Nirvana
1 Rush moving Pictures.
