They help our economy a lot. Its a shame that people want to criminalize them. They come from corrupt countries full of poverty. America is a dream for them. They want to do better and live better.

Special Brew 03-28-2006 11:57 PM

Seems sort of pointless to protest against the government starting to punish people for doing something already oradained illegal. Not taking sides, 'cause I see nothing wrong with immigrants, and the bill itself is pretty harsh, but protesting against the US for taking action on their own laws doesn't seem like the smartest decision someone could make.

faith and fiction 03-28-2006 11:59 PM

I'm already confident these 2 days of protesting are going to make the Senate think twice about passing this bill...and on top of that they're probably going to pass the Guest Work Act or whatever that thing is called where you can work here without citizenship.

40 oz 2 freedom 03-29-2006 12:00 AM

I'm not sure you really understand the purpose of protest.

Special Brew 03-29-2006 12:05 AM
I'm not sure you really understand the purpose of protest.
I don't. :/

Seems like a bunch of people getting angry because they're getting punished for doing something that is illegal, even though they got away with it previously. Like I said, I don't know how things work or nothin', so this is just going off what you guys told me. If I'm wrong, explain it to me, and dumb it down 'cause I don't know anything about how laws and politics go.

But if the protest is working after all, more power to them.

40 oz 2 freedom 03-29-2006 12:12 AM

First off, understand that just because something is a law doesn't mean it's right. You seem to be stuck on the idea that people shouldn't be complaining about something they get in trouble before only because it's against the law.

faith and fiction 03-29-2006 12:14 AM

For real. Look ar Birmingham, Alabama with the bus boycott. I'm sure there were a ton of white kids saying "Hey what's the point you know? It's the law and that's that".

And this is no different. Who are we to push people away while they try to make an honest living? And I know this is touchy when you bring it up...but we did take that land from them 200 somewhat years ago, and I'm sorry but time doesn't change everything.

Special Brew 03-29-2006 12:15 AM

Oh, I don't agree that the law is right or anything. It seems awfully strict and unneeded to me. But, I've never heard of people protesting and things before the passed the bill. People were happy breaking the law, because they weren't getting caught and punished. Now that the law's being enforced, they finally say something.

They should've been doing this long before this bill was passed. Or am I misunderstanding* you?

*I'm not even sure if this is a word.

faith and fiction 03-29-2006 12:17 AM

Oh the bill just made it to Senate, that's why everything is protesting.

It's a word.

I participate in a fair few protests around my city, with the ALV.

But that law was always enforced and people weren't allowed to slip by repeatedly, they were oppressed for a legth of time. This immgrant thing seems different 'cause the laws weren't strictly enforced until now. I mean, if you break the law, you should be expecting some kind of punishment, and not complain when you do get punished.

The protestors are doing the right thing, but I think it's being triggered by the wrong event. They should've been protesting in masses and fighting for their rights long before this bill. If they were, I've just never heard anything about it.

That's just silly, of course it's a word.

There has been illegal immigration forever, this is faar from the first law regulating immigration.

This is also far from the first time people have protested immigration restrictions.

I still find it hard to believe how you seem to have no understanding of any of this.

I've never had a formal history class or anything like that. I've been cut off from most things other than the internet for 3 or 4 years because of homeschooling.

I get why they're pissed, and I think the law is fucked up, but because of the time they chose to start this protest, it makes people look like they're whining about getting a smack on the wrist for doing something they know they weren't supposed to. I'm not saying that's what they are doing, but it just looks like it.

I've never heard of any previous protests or walk-outs and stuff over this, not in current affairs anyway. I know a little from the small bit of history I've had to study, just old basic stuff though.

Special Brew 03-29-2006 01:01 AM

Anyways, I'll leave that type of stuff to you guys... I don't get or care for it, lol.

What are some good posi hardcore bands? I prefer poppier stuff, but all of it's good.

I like these:
CIV, Gorilla Biscuits, Lifetime*, Kid Dynamite, Youth of Today, Good Clean Fun.

I need more

(*not sure if they are actually a "posi" band, but they're poppy.)

Crime In Stereo, Burn What Binds, Shelter

TakeWarning 03-29-2006 03:20 AM

Damien Rhodes, you seem to know even less about this than me, and I'm only 15.

Malice 03-29-2006 03:48 AM

Wow, really? I always thought you were older, Kieran.

Please tell me that's your name.

TakeWarning 03-29-2006 04:57 AM

It is indeed my name.

Malice 03-29-2006 05:05 AM

Great. Just making sure.

So how's it going?

TakeWarning 03-29-2006 05:25 AM

Pretty good.

How's things in Sydney?

Special Brew 03-29-2006 09:55 AM

I like Crime and Shelter already. I didn't think they had the posi thing going on though. I'll check out Burn.

Any others?

amen
You should get out and smoke some herb. :smoke:
I used to smoke up about twice a week at least, but I got away from those people because they were getting into heavier stuff and I didn't want to go that way. So I stopped smoking. I get out of the house, but I don't have any contact with anything to do with stuff outside my circle of friends and stuff, besides music I find on the internet.

RetiredAt21 03-29-2006 12:53 PM

I know a bunch of dope heads. They're pretty sad, I would never get into that s'hit. I'll just stick with herb.

cbmartinez 03-29-2006 01:35 PM

You smoke crack Justin.

And to the illegal immigrant protest: If your an illegal immigrant, you have no rights. You can't really protest about your non-exsistant rights.

RetiredAt21 03-29-2006 02:36 PM

Crack really isn't all it's cracked up to be.
