Blues For Allah is awesome.
Blues For Allah is awesome.
Yeah it is.

I have those Zappa albums also. I'll find some time to upload 'em.

magicbus 03-08-2006 08:07 PM

You know who else is awesome? Robert Randolph. Man, I wish all these guys were touring. That would rule awesomely.

NP: Robert Randolph - Why Should I Feel Lonely

JonG 03-08-2006 08:12 PM

Indeed. An amazing pedal steel player. I like him a lot. My sister saw him at Bonnaroo. :X

Scuba_Steve 03-08-2006 08:51 PM

You guys know what ELSE is awesome.

I just found out my dad had a couple of Spirit CDs and 2 Cactus CDs.

all of them are amazing, but I doubt he'll let me keep them :(

NP:Spirit- New Dope in Town

Led-ZeppelinIV 03-08-2006 09:05 PM

I saw Robert Randolph open for Clapton

robo2448 03-08-2006 09:07 PM

Spirit is awesome. And Cactus is a band I'm interested in checking out since PinkFreud has mentioned them a couple times.

Robert Randolph is great. Just an incredibly original sound. I saw him live with OAR. He sure beat the crap out of oar.

You guys are making me sad :(

I'm sending out Sessions for Robert J., Derek Trucks - Songlines, Savoy Brown - Shake Down, and John Scofield - Uberjam.

Led-ZeppelinIV 03-08-2006 09:25 PM
I saw Robert Randolph open for Clapton
That was his '04 tour, right? I saw them, too. Randolph came out at the end and did a number with Clapton, which one slips my mind right now.

PinkFreud 03-08-2006 09:52 PM

I too saw Randolph open for Clapton. It was amazing. Man, Bus, you should've been there. :p

He did a wicked cover of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)

Oh, my rock history teacher pronounced that "Voodoo Chile" like Chile the country. I was angry.

what kind of a class is that?

/signs up

PinkFreud 03-08-2006 10:25 PM

We basically just watch video talking about rock going back from the '20's and the roots of rock with jazz and blues and all that up until almost now.

Every time you mention that class I get more and more jealous.

Uggh I saw Dave Chappelle's block party today. Dave was funny in some parts, but most of the movie was reeeally boring.

I almost went to see it, but I heard it wasn't very good. I'll rent it or something. Or never see it.

"I Could Have Lied" is a very cool Chili Peppers song.

I listened to the first song on Eat A Peach, and it was good.

It's a miracle! Notify the authorities.

You don't need no gypsy to tell you why
You can't let one precious day slip by
Just look inside yourself,
And if you don't see what you want,
Maybe sometimes then you don't,
But leave your mind alone, and just get high

My friend's favorite lyric of all time. Ain't Wastin' Time No More is definitely one of the best songs ever.

I love the Dead Show podcast. Just an hour of continuous live Dead, and really good ones too. Right now I'm listening to a show from Greensboro, NC :) Last podcast had an awesome cover of "Good Love" or whatever... God, you know

"Goo-duh lah!" Doo, doo-doo-doodoo "Goo-duh luh!" Doo, doo-doo-doodoo
"Goo-duh luh!" Doo, doo-doo-dooooo "Goo-duh luh!" Doo, doo-doo-doodoo

The Dead are great to listen to when you are sketching stuff. Hell, they're great to listen to most anytime :) Except if you're trying to get pumped up, it will have the opposite effect.

thickasabrick 03-08-2006 11:29 PM

Robert Randolph opening for Clapton? God that sounds amazing.

I heard the most insanely awesome song (especially the drum beat) on the radio tonight. It was the most mindblowing drum beat I've ever heard in my life. It sounded sort of like Beebop jazz but with some serious African/tribal stuff going on. The name of the song was KC, or Casey, I'm not sure. I don't remember the name of the band because it was really long and strange...but if I ever find it you guys haaave to hear it!

Good Lovin'?

It's great live, especially on Europe '72.

Badmoon 03-09-2006 07:38 AM

I like it recorded too.

Blue Sky > Melissa > Stand Back > One Way Out > Ain't Wastin' Time No More > Trouble No More > Little Martha > Les Bres in A Minor > Mountain Jam

yea

jpj 03-09-2006 07:58 AM

Are you telling me that Mountain Jam is your least favorite song on Eat a Peach? All the songs are too awesome for me to put in any kind of order, but I know Mountain Jam wouldn't be last.

EDIT: I got my copy of Matisyahu's new album, plus the Dub version and and autographed insert! :D

ATM 03-09-2006 09:21 AM

I'll be seeing RR at Bonnaroo this summer :-D

robo2448 03-09-2006 02:38 PM

I wish I could go to Bonaroo. Is Randolph touring this summer?

Order of Eat a Peach (best to worst). This is tough.

Blue Sky
One Way Out
Melissa
Mountain Jam
Trouble No More
Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Little Martha
Les Bres in a Minor
Stand Back

Last goes to either "Les Bres in a Minor" or "Mountain Jam". Each other track is easily superior, IMO.

BigTrav415 03-09-2006 04:15 PM

Oh god, this will be hard

Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Blue Sky
Les Brers In A Minor
Trouble No More
One Way Out
Mountain Jam
Melissa
Little Martha
Stand Back

Wow, that was really hard.

This thread is slow today :-/ New discussion!

If you won a contest or something to meet and hang out with any band (during any time period) who would it be? I'd probably go with Pink Floyd, Syd era. Other good ones would be PF Gilmour/Waters era, the Dead in the 70's, and Zeppelin.

The Beatles, no doubt. We'd have so much fun!

Do you actually own any albums... I mean downloading a few every so often but downloading entire discographys...? That is rediculous, and almost every post by you is talking about some new blog where you can download 100000 albums in a matter of seconds.

Lunch 03-09-2006 06:49 PM

I usually only download from the blogs since that stuff is so rare. It's a great way to get obsure music that would cost like $50 to buy from Amazon or something like that.

The 8 Days in April Guy uploaded Triumvirat - Illusions on a Double Dime. That's awesome.

Glitterati 03-09-2006 06:53 PM
The Beatles, no doubt. We'd have so much fun!
I wouldn't mind having a drink with Tom Waits some time.

I'm downloading some Stray Cats right now :-D I hope they're good. Of course they'll be good, it's Brian Setzer. Anyone like the Stray Cats?

np: George Carlin - The Ten Commandments.

I love Carlin.

Well, it's better than being in the gray area of downloading music. I'm honestly tired of this idea that pervades everyone's minds that downloading some music isn't bad. The person who made thar music still isn't getting paid for it, it's still stealing. I think you have to be either completely against and therefore stop downloading any (copyrighted) music for free, or agree with it and download however much you feel like. I'll admit there are exceptions, like really rare music you can't find anywhere else, but I'm tired of hearing from my friends (Well, I only download three or four songs a week, so it's not that bad." I'm personally morally against it, but financially for it, and of course the almighty dollar always wins

I will admit that that is a bit excessive from any perspective, WttM.

robo2448 03-09-2006 06:56 PM

Yeah, I download rare stuff and stuff I don't have but I'm interested in hearing, and if I like it, I buy it if I find it in stores. But I've only downloaded a few albums recently because I don't want to kill my hard drive.

Never heard of the Stray Cats.

I couldn't pick one band, so I'll just say I'd like to be at Woodstock and hang out with everyone there. And if I had to pick one band, I'd go with Dylan. He's such an interesting guy and would be so cool to chill out with and talk to.

I don't download because I don't want to spend the money btw. I just download if it's something rare or something I'm interested in but don't know if I want to buy yet. Morally, I don't like people who download albums that are easy to buy and stuff, but I don't have a moral problem with what I do. If I did, I wouldn't do it. Duh.

PinkFreud 03-09-2006 07:01 PM

Stray Cats is the band that Brian Setzer headed wasn't it?

Jacaranda 03-09-2006 07:02 PM

I have no problem with it I just find that taking more then one album from an artist over the limit. I mean without the YSI threads here or SLSK there would be a lot of bands that I wouldn't have known about or really liked. Downloading should be more of a preview of the band rather then a whole review of the band. I download to preview not to collect entire discographys and blatantly steal 1000's of dollars in a few hours.
Downloading 1 album a week to downloading +10 albums in a day is a very large difference.

I can see where someone might download an album because of money problems but again entire discograpyhs is just ridiculous.

And downloading because it is rare even a dumber excuse. Its rare because: A) The artists isn't well known which probably means not rich. or B) Out of print. If "A" I have major problems with that, I would much rather download 5 Rolling Stones albums then download one Rites of Spring album. Although I can see where if an album is so rare that it costs an insane amount of money that downloading would be the best option. And even if its out of print you can find it. Even here I can find some out of print bootlegs or albums from various artists.
Meh, who am I to tell you whats wrong and whats right though!

jpj 03-09-2006 07:17 PM

I downloaded 13 albums today. I have no morals.

How do you get the free rapidshare account?

EDIT: Nevermind.

If I could be alive for only a couple of hours then die it would be hanging out with Dylan the time he smoked up the Beatles for their first time. But if I could hang out with only one band it would be the Jimi Hendrix Experience, though more Jimi than the others. Not that I wouldn't mind meeting the others, but I've always wanted to have a one on one disscussion with him.

Glitterati 03-09-2006 07:21 PM

Yeah, '80s rockabilly band.

Lunch 03-09-2006 07:22 PM

I don't see why I should go on a hunt and invest upwards of $30 for all these obscure artists I've never heard before and am just interested in checking out, rather than downloading them as "sample".

I envy you.

I'm waiting for WttM to finally post in here again like 3 months from now, saying he just got of juvy for stealing music  At least then it would be a little easier to swallow the bullshit stories that 95% of all HORRIBLE LITTLE LAWBREAKING KIDS!!1 will get arrested for downloading a Shakira song off Limewire
