The best cover of that song is Warren Zevon's, methinks.
Does it seem that Dylan was tripping when he wrote "Mr Tambourine" or is that just me? I mean listin to the lyrics:
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to. Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you. Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand, Vanished from my hand, Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping. My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet, I have no one to meet And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming. Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship, My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip, My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels To be wanderin'. I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it. Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun, It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run And but for the sky there are no fences facin'. And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind, I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're Seein' that he's chasing. Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach, Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow. Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow.
I've heard that "Mr. Tambourine Man" was about lonliness and isolation, and that the narrator keeps pleading with Mr. Tambourine Man because he is desperate for human contact. edit: and the best Hendrix song is "Machine Gun", imo. |
probably knocking on heavens door.

Castles Made of Sand is my favorite Hendrix I just love his voice in the song and its a good story, I like the last one about the girl in a wheel chair; good message.
|
i like bold as love the best.
|
Yeah, I think Dylan told Hendrix that his version was the way it was meant to be.
Yea Dylan said that's how it was supposed to be, but he didn't have the guitar skills. |
Machine Gun, Hear My Train a Comin' and Manic Depression are my favorite Hendrix songs.
|
Jeff Becks' version of Manic Depression is great.
|
Whats everybody think about the Doobie Brothers? I wanted to go see them in concert but the show was sold out in like-an hour so that got scratched and speaking of sold out shows: Did anybody get to the see Rolling Stones in their latest "farewell" tour?
|
I have What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits by the Doobie Brothers. Personally, I think it's very good, but a lot of their songs sound the same. Black Water is an awesome song.
|
Quite true. A lot of their songs do sound the same but still-awesome stuff.
|
I dont know why,but i never was a big fan of Doobie Brothers,i mean,i dont care if ya like them, and i dont hate them,i just never cared for them.

I don't like it, but I haven't listened to it for a while, I'll put it on now. np- Southern Man |
Machine Gun, Hear My Train a Comin' and Manic Depression are my favorite Hendrix songs.
Those, House Burning Down, Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand and Hey Joe are my favorites. |
I listened to Eric Clapton's cover of Knockin' On Heaven's Door again, and I can now reaffirm that it isn't anything special. It's boring, nothing special at all about the song.

From what I remember of it it was a good cover, but did nothing to stand out from the others. |

It's not that it's terrible, it's just that Clapton does nothing to make it his own song. Well, he kind of adds a reggae feel to it, and I don't think that works at all with that song. It just bores me. I had higher expectations for an Eric Clapton cover. |

I dunno I liked the feel. I'd say more about it but haven't listened to it in probably about a year. |

Meh, RockandRoll likes it. Maybe it's just me who doesn't like it. It does have a relaxing feel, but I like Dylan's version much, much more. Definitely download Dylan's version if you don't have that. |

That song isn't anything special period even when Dylan's playing it. I would go as far as to call it sub par aswell.
Is it just me or does it seem that "Who Do You Love" is covered way more? |

I was thinking of compleing a "forward" list of e-mail adresses so that whenever I upload an album, I could send it to anyone interested, and vice-versa. Sort of like a YSI mailing list. I'll start the list if anyone cares Walrus Gumboot - Princesslolly006@yahoo.com (I made the name when I was in 7th grade :p) |

Johnny B. Good(e) is covered a jillion times also.

Anyway, Who Do You Love probably is covered more than Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Nobody said that it was the most covered song ever, I just said Dylan was the most covered artist ever. Yesterday is the most covered song ever, but Who Do You Love is probably pretty close. |

The Doors That Hawk guy off the Last Waltz The Misunderstood George Thoroughgood Probablly more I can't think of right now.
Johnny B. Good(e) is covered a jillion times also.
Indeed. I bet you guys haven't even heard the most covered song ever because it's most likely a Latino Pop song that every band in the country of Mexico has to play to be booked for gigs. |
