1. agreed, but the door is never quite shut, even better if you know someone.

2. Yes, a lot of people that don't go to university are going to end up with crap jobs, but those are the people that are lazy, have no ambition, and aren't going to work their butts off.

I'll add a 3. Some of the best paying jobs out there are in the skilled trades and there is no degree involved in those, although there is a bit of schooling, which your employer pays for. I know plumbers that make $100,000+ a year, millrights that make $70,000+ a year, tool and die makers that make $80 and hour. To make money you do not need to go and get a degree.
