To that guy about the next Sabbath stuf he should get, I recommend Sabotage but if you want some non ozzy stuff which you should look into sometime get Heaven And Hell.

Brew 02-06-2006 10:21 AM

the best bet is to read the first post of this thread

rippa32 02-06-2006 06:57 PM

^ Oh yeah I forgot about that.

Ladyshredder126 02-06-2006 07:43 PM

rippa no offense but are you old? cuz your like a sabbath genius, its great but how do u know all this stuff?

pigonthewing82 02-06-2006 09:04 PM

Fairies Wear Boots has become my favorite Sabbath song (used to be The Wizard). I love that intro and the words are just great.

I used to love it, but for some reason it gets on my nerves now. My all time favorite is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

I love the lyrics to that song I think Sabbath's lyrics are really underrated so many people just think its satanic trash when there is sooooooooo much more to so many of their songs. People really need to learn to read between the lines.

I agree. And yeah, that's one of the main reasons it's my favorite.

pigonthewing82 02-06-2006 09:50 PM

Yeah personally my favorite lyrics from Sabbath right now are After Forever, even the name is poetic.

lol, Im actually 17. I just do alot of research on the internet, I do that with quite a few bands and I love trivia. I got most of my information from www.black-sabbath.com

blue3 02-07-2006 02:50 AM

Everyone knows rippa is an old man. :)

Brew 02-07-2006 11:31 AM

rippa might know more than me about the sabs someday :p

rippa32 02-07-2006 06:26 PM

mmmm, Actually I doubt that, you definately know your stuff.

They're not Satanic trash, but in general they aren't exactly classic poetry either...they're more or less standard rock lyrics.

Ladyshredder126 02-08-2006 03:51 PM

i completely disagree. "standard rock lyrics" are about a$$ and gra$$.

it could be said they wrote the first "standard metal lyrics..."

Brew 02-08-2006 04:26 PM

here's one for you all.

which Sabbath song was composed by the MkIII-era lineup (Iommi, Butler, Ward, Dio) but not actually used on an album until the Tony Martin era?

rippa32 02-08-2006 10:39 PM

That I do not know. But wouldnt that line-up be Mark II? Or are you counting Dave Walker?

EDIT: Wait I think I have it. Is it Scarlet Pimpernel? I don't actually have the Eternal Idol album but I do know that that song is the only one on the album Ray Gillen didn't help write.

That could be said but it would be wrong. I believe Death would take that title.
What the hell do you think Sweat Leaf is about?

rippa32 02-09-2006 04:34 AM

Yes Sweet LEaf is not the greatest lyrically. But Geezer has written some very good lyrics. I quite like the ones from Into The Void, Under The Sun, Iron Man plus quite a few more.

Sph 02-09-2006 04:52 AM

I love Into The Void. I'm not sure if i've heard Under The Sun, though.

Btw, where in QLD are you?

rippa32 02-09-2006 07:05 AM

Sunshine Coast. What about you?

You should check out Under the Sun its a very good song. It's on the Vol.4 album.

Sph 02-09-2006 07:08 AM

I'm down in Logan, a bit south of Brisbane.

I'll be sure to check out Under The Sun. But right now, I need to sleep.

MkII is Dave Walker, yes.

And no, its not on The Eternal Idol...

rippa32 02-10-2006 05:04 AM

mmm, Then I have no idea. Ill take a stab at Feels Good To Me because it feels out of place on that album but thats all ive got.

its Heaven in Black

rippa32 02-14-2006 05:06 AM

Really? I would never have guessed that. Where did you hear that? Could there be a source of information even greater than www.black-sabbath.com?

Brew 02-14-2006 06:32 AM

it might not even be true, but my Windows Media Player shows me this when I hold my mouse over it...

Social Commentary (War Pigs, Childeren of the Grave), Drugs (Sweet Leaf, The Wizard?) Personal stuff( Parinoid) Yep standard rock lyrics, but Sabbath still takes the cake for creativity, originality, and pushing their intrumentals to the limit.

I wouldnt trust the information coming from Media Player. I just checked my CD and it says all songs were written by everybody in the band at that time except Battle Of Tyr, because that has no lyrics and all Tony Martin did was lyrics. I have seen other silly mistakes in Medai Player before as well.

Lupus 02-15-2006 08:09 AM

What do you guys think of Iommi's solo work?

BassMasterMike88 02-15-2006 12:57 PM

^
I honestly prefer Geezer work to Iommi's.

Brew 02-15-2006 01:36 PM

I'm yet to get an Iommi album, I have all 3 of Geezer's albums though.

rippa32 02-16-2006 05:16 AM

I dont like Geezer's stuff, because I really don't like industrial. But he has such a wide taste in music and I hear he wants to do a Jazz album, I would buy that.

shadow_stalker 02-19-2006 06:39 AM

I still havnt heard any of Iommi or Geezer's solo stuff (but if geerzer's is industrial i probably wont like it)

ive heard Bill's stuff and i really didnt like that

Ladyshredder126 02-19-2006 08:12 PM

i havent heard anybodys solo stuff

for the sake of keeping this alive, what were u doing when you heard your first sabbath song?

i was 12 and i was at a baseball game and they played paranoid. my mom was making fun of ozzys voice but i was in love. i didnt know what the band name or song title was so i wrote 'finished with my woman' on the back of my hand, it was the only lyric i could understand/remember.

if your parents like them and you grew up listening to them in the car your a lucky b*tch.

rippa32 02-19-2006 09:53 PM

I first heard Paranoid too which is really funny that, that song got me into them because I hate it now. I always wanted to listen to Black Sabbath because I loved the name so much and when I heard a friend had the Best Of I asked to listen to it and he put that song on.

Brew 02-20-2006 10:28 AM

Hmm...

My discovery of Sabbath dates back to 2002 when I saw Ozzy at the Ozzfest, by then I think I already knew Paranoid but that was about it. Paranoid then ended up being the first song I learnt to play on bass, then not long after my Dad basicly gave me every Sabbath album he had on vinyl (from Black Sabbath to Never Say Die!, but not Paranoid, he had that on cassette) to listen to and keep in my room.

BassMasterMike88 02-21-2006 08:57 PM

For the sake of keeping this thread alive..

I first got into Sabbeth pretty heavily when in 9th grade we had to do a presentaion on a protest song. I wanted to do CCR's "Fortunate Son" but my partner convinced me into doing Sabbeth's "War Pigs" After hearing that one i perchased We Sold Our Souls for Rock & Roll.

blue3 02-22-2006 12:29 AM

That was the first album I got too. I started really listening to them in 7th grade.
