I was going to do that today, just got a new DVD cabinet, but I ran out of time. Damn schoolkids holding me up at the hairdressers.

I love paying my tuition.

$108.00 - Economic Recovery Surcharge
$60.00 - Health and Wellness Fee

On top of the other $1340.00 I'm paying for my one 3-credit Linear Algebra class.

*sigh*

gaslight 07-20-2009 09:26 AM

Health and wellness fee? ...is that a threat?

FunkMetalBass 07-20-2009 09:46 AM
Health and wellness fee? ...is that a threat?
Most likely.

Economic recovery....psh. The President of ASU netted $600k last year alone, why not cut his salary and make him pay for the economy? I guess they're probably right - us lowly college students are to blame for the economy...

FunkMetalBass 07-20-2009 09:52 AM

What's the cheapest method of shipping a guitar overseas? I have a gentleman who is interested in my Aria, but he lives in Hong Kong, and I'm having trouble finding anything less than $220 for shipping.

funkyhoney 07-20-2009 09:53 AM

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, an "Economic Recovery Surcharge", jut what in the name of **** does that mean? It contradicts itself, if it's an economic recovery it should be a rebate. **** that ****, I'd complain until they made it go away.

And how, pray-tell, is it YOUR fault that the economy ****ed its own pooper anyway? The government should be fixing that **** regardless.

Probably some kind of freight boat... with no guarantees... or insurance... or paperwork...

gaslight 07-20-2009 10:01 AM

Do you pay tuition to the mafia or something?

"Unbroken legs fee: $100".

Yeah I'd have to say the cheapest method will most likely not be safe at all.

If I were shipping an instrument from overseas I'd want it getting special treatment and I'd be well advised to pay up for some shipping insurance too.

I can ship it via the United States Postal Service (not the greatest tracking feature, but it'll work) + $500 insurance for $87.00. It's the cheapest method I'd feel comfortable using.

Anybody ever shipped through customs? I'm not sure how that works.

funkyhoney 07-20-2009 10:07 AM

I've bought **** off ebay that came from Hong Kong and it got here in 2 days.

gaslight 07-20-2009 10:10 AM

That sounds vastly improbable unless they shipped it Express Air or something really expensive.

I'm having trouble recalling what it was. But I can assure you it was tiny and I paid less than $3 for shipping.

Tuition Surcharge:

The Economic Recovery Tuition Surcharge is designed to recover a portion of the base budget funds lost as a result of State General Fund budget reductions in FY09 and FY10. The tuition surcharge applies to all resident and non-resident undergraduate and graduate students.
What's worse, even if I get out of paying that $108.00 surcharge, I still have to enroll in a tution payment plan, which has a $100 nonrefundable down payment. Lol.

sadface

I've ordered things from Sydney that took five days to get here haha.

This band that I've been doing session gigs for, Midnight Aurora, played a metal cover of the song at the last show. It was pretty epic.

I'm not gonna cook it but I'll order it from Zanzibar!

I can see why people younger than me go on violent killing sprees in your country. It's not because you played Doom or because your Uncle Jim came round to baby-sit on a Thursday night when your parents were hocking their bodies on the side of Main St. and touched you inappropriately; although in hindsight you think you're a better person for it and wished that he-

Preventative care? Does that mean if you pay up you can get all kinds of free drugs because you "might" get a pain in your toe? And a wheelchair, get a wheelchair.

Seriously. The president of this University is one of the greediest pigf**ks I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. ASU has 5 different campuses, and he's dropping the only one close to me (also the second largest) for economic reasons. Lest we forget that three years ago he spent ungodly sums of money building this incredibly hi-tech fifth campus that has the second lowest student population of the 5 and cost (if memory serves) a bit more than the Main campus.

I really can't stand the bastard, and if I could quit my job and be a full time student elsewhere, I would.

I'll email them and find out. I'd really like some vicodin because I'll have to prevent myself from becoming enraged for wasting $168 in useless fees.

My uni is a bit backwards like that sometimes, they shut down the campus nearest to me because they had low numbers. Hey morons, maybe if you offered courses other than psychology and accounting I could've gone there like a lot of other people instead of having to travel an extra 15ks.

For reference I study Creative Writing, Journalism and Marketing; evidently these are such high priority and sought after strains that I need to travel in large urban epicentres to learn them.

Having said that I've taken a semester off and actually plugged my typewriter in in the hopes I can get a better creative scope outside of the place for a while. And music, I like playing music too.

The government isn't charging him, it's the university. Also, it's not supposed to stimulate the economy, it's a charge for the university to make more money.
It still ain't right though.

Don't give me your god damn reverse Canadian logic Jesse you sickass mofo.

My government gave every tax payer $900 to stimulate the economy; see how that works?

It doesn't, but the point is governments and uni's should stop ****ing around and just run things like normal because NOTHING IS WRONG.

The whole reason that ASU needs to recover from the grant loss is because they over-budgeted, wasted money on useless campus additions, and then couldn't get the same government funding when sh*t hit the fan for FY10.

I think I'll pay every fee but that $108.

Efrim 07-20-2009 10:45 AM

Well, for many universities a lot is wrong. Only through their own stupidity, but they are still in trouble.
Not mine!
