Crass have nice bass lines IMO

albert_bass 06-05-2005 03:35 PM

Good punk bass:

Rancid, Satanic Surfers, Nomeansno, Lagwagon, NOFX, SLM, Catch22, Mad Caddies, Bad Astronaut, Bigwig, Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, (some) Toy dolls, AFI, Dead Kennedys, Anti-flag, Green Day, Operation Ivy, Propagandhi, Randy, Vandals, Rich Kids On LSD, Less Than Jake, 88 fingers louie, Deviates... plus many more. I don't know you but I don't find it boring.
Crass have nice bass lines IMO
Yeah I think the same. But they're not hard at all, unlike some of these bands lines. Good anyway: Punk is dead for example (check my tab :)).

I don't know who's that guy but he's even better than Matt Freeman. Or the same.

I love to play Here's To Life by Streetlight Manifesto.

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:46 PM

My favorite bass line to play right now is Day tripper by the beatles, or Forest Fire by DK.

Rise Me Up 06-05-2005 03:47 PM

I just made this bassline.

i see very few of these bands actually discussed here. and in general punk bass lines suck. and even alot that you listed dont appeal to me in the same sense that ska lines do.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 06-05-2005 03:50 PM

I've been writing quite a few bass riffs recently, one i ddi today sounded oretty good i thought

1. So what if they're not discussed?
2. They don't
3. What do you mean? It's different genres.

What bass and equipment do you use?

Let's Chop Cats! 06-05-2005 03:52 PM

Make a thread on them if you want them discussed.
1. So what if they're not discussed?

1. most people dont listen to them then. cause alot that is discussed here gets around fast.
2. yes in my opinion they do.
3. in my opinion i still dont like them compared to ska lines.

1. Then listen to them.
2,3, I respect your opinion.
I've been writing quite a few bass riffs recently, one i ddi today sounded oretty good i thought
I write away at basslines and lyrics but most of them are just for me. I only play some of them to the band if i think it is good for the band. A bit like my art, most of the drawings are for me as if anyone seen them then they would be scared! But i do draw alot of punk looking stuff that might go into the our album when we get that done.

Rise Me Up 06-05-2005 03:57 PM

I write like 10 basslines a day and never rememeber them.

TAND 06-05-2005 03:58 PM
1. Then listen to them.

it still wont change my opinion of general punk bass. because theres still many more bands that suck at it.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 06-05-2005 03:58 PM

yeah i have written a lot of lyrics over the past month or so, i need to go back through them and pick out my favourites.

I thought i'd have a go at writing some bass lines, some short intros and that sort of thing because:

1. it's fun

2. i can make them interesting

3. if i leave it up to a guitarist to write the song alone i'll end up being the support act to one massive guiatr based song
I write like 10 basslines a day and never rememeber them.
write them down?

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:58 PM
I write like 10 basslines a day and never rememeber them.
ya, me too. Some of them suck and i try to forget them though.

Brain Toad 06-05-2005 03:59 PM

I've done that with guitar riffs and chord progressions, write one in class, and forget it by the time I get home to write it down.
if i leave it up to a guitarist to write the song alone i'll end up being the support act to one massive guiatr based song
True, but luckily i have quite alot of songs with bass leading or bass playing by itself. One song the verse has no guitar in it but i must admit the chorus does sound better with the guitar playing also, and our raggae song is based on me playing and the rest of the band play due to my bassline and 'cause i'm just that cool

Anxious 06-05-2005 04:10 PM

Good reagge lines are hard to come up with. Slap lines are the funnest to play, and to create.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 06-05-2005 04:11 PM

haha sounds good. I'm actually looking to start a band with my guiatrist mates, we need a drummer. i figured i'd just start putting some bits together that i can use whenever i want.

TAND 06-05-2005 04:14 PM
Good reagge lines are hard to come up with. Slap lines are the funnest to play, and to create.
reggae lines are amazing. and i suck at making slap line. :upset:

Biscuit_box 06-05-2005 04:20 PM
Good reagge lines are hard to come up with. Slap lines are the funnest to play, and to create.
Yeah good raggae lines are hard to conjour. I made a really sweet raggae bassline that i think outshines the guitar eventhough the song was basically meant to be focused on the guitar :p I slap sometimes but i really only play pick as i want to get as good as i can get with that first then focus on stuff like slapping/tapping etc....

Shtein 06-05-2005 05:27 PM

I supose I should try and play reagge riff on my guitar, if its possible.

sketchyjoe 06-05-2005 05:42 PM

My bassline are usually very fast and never include the same note less than 4 time in a row.
