I still need to see most of the newer Argento movies. Some deaths in Suspiria are pretty lol.
the entire death at the beginning was pretty lol but effective nonetheless |
like a lot of these old films Suspiria would have only been truly effective in the cinema
I hear watching 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen is like a religious experience |
nah its not supposed to be dubbed, this happened in the version i watched too. A small problem for an otherwise amazing film though, it was easy to overlook.
ahhh, well i went out and bought it today just cause it was so awesome so i'll watch it the right way soon enough, although the dubbing was actually pretty cool cause it added to the whole surreal dreamlike nature of the film
If you want more Argento try to get your hands on Profondo rosso and Tenebre. Both are a little better than Suspiria, stronger story etc.
i really wasn't paying any attention to the story at all tbh, the cinematography, soundtrack, set design, etc. was so perfect but i'll check those out for sure |
Suspiria's color use is the best, simply the best. And yes, most Argento movies soundtracks are awesome thanks to a little band called Goblin.
|
if you like Suspiria naturally you should watch Inferno
|
duly noted
|

this is what hit me most about the movie, all the colors used were amazing really intensified certain scenes and calmed others way down. |

will do |
jodorowsky's king shot got cancelled due to lack of funds :(
so much for the big comeback, could have been his first worthwhile film since Santa Sangre |
that sucks :(
what did you think of The Rainbow Thief? |
****ina i cant wait till next week gonna have such a satan time in colorado
|
I hear watching 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen is like a religious experience
would probably jizz a little watching the departed, leo dicaprio just got his head blown off |
that sucks :(
what did you think of The Rainbow Thief?
Along with Tusk and his abandoned Dune project (with Salvador Dali) it was unfortunately the result of his creative freedom being squashed into insignificance, and it shows. The film tears itself in several directions, and is a bit of a mess. Some quotes taken from La Constellation Jodorowsky on his feelings about the production - "Everything was imposed on me. I fully assumed this nightmare... the producer warned that.... I had to adapt to American business rules... I was not free." "It was a good massage for my ego. It was like like receiving 300 blows with a stick every day." I honestly believe he only had 3 worthwhile films throughout his entire career, El Topo, The Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre. Fando Y Lis is popular but I didn't like it all that much, and La Cravate was a nice short as well. Throughout most of his filmmaking career he has been given the short end of the stick though. |
el topo is pretty weird
|
el topo is pretty weird
The problem with all his films is that they are filled to the brim with symbolic references to esoteric literature, spirituality and philosophy that nobody could possibly understand apart from a select crowd of pretentious elitist art ****s. I like them in an aesthetic sense, but I won't pretend I can make full sense of them. Santa Sangre was probably my favourite (Claudio Argento did the cinematography as well, whilst we are on topic). |

And I don't agree with you in the last statement, I think Fando Y Lis was great, a very big step for him, and I quite like the story, plus the dialogue is quite excellent. I've never seen la Cravate, will look for that. And to fully enjoy Jodorowsky one has to know a lot about Esoteric topics, like Haz mentioned. I didn't get a lot of parts in Holy Mountain and El Topo (more so in Holy Mountain for some reason) but they are fantastic movies when it comes to cinematography. Santa Sangre is more straight forward. |

ok why is everyone acting like fags
|
I ended up reading Mount Analogue by Rene Daumal which was the entire premise for The Holy Mountain, it was great.
It's infamous for being unfinished though :( |
